    A little painting exercise. It´s part of Caravaggios painting "Supper at Emmaus" from 1601. The original is located in the National Gallery in London.
    Here you can see a classical way of oilpainting. Beginning with white on a coloured ground, forming the face and hand. A second layer of white to create more structure, roundness and highlights. If necessary a third layer of white highlights.
    The colours, like the skintones, are made in glazes. You can also paint it more opaque, depending on your personal preference.
    It´s a simple and effective way to build up your painting.
    Wish you all good luck and success with your paintings!

    Exactly in this Caravaggio You can see that he did errors like every other human lol,the hand Is the One behind and Is bigger than the One in front near us (not in this but in the original) because he messed with the "camera oscura"

    Because you did the white calk color in the beginning, the colors are pasty and not in the true brilliance of churascuro

      Really not !!! The hand is wrong according yo scale and perspective, the style is good but is not even closer to the essential characteristics of Caravaggio. Please post comments about true because if You think is not that is a true, is only your vision. The color palette is the most distance atribute to the original. I hope the creator of this piece understand professionaly what i say.

  • @semihcanakca1762

    The very first layer of white is covered totally as far as i saw, and after the colored layer, you use white again on it to get brightness. So, i wonder what is the function of the first white layer? Amazing work by the way :)

    • @semihcanakca1762
      @semihcanakca1762 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean, if we use opaque glaze layer that covers the white totally, why should we use bottom white layer?

    • @oldmasterpaintings5070
      @oldmasterpaintings5070  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The first layer is similar to a brown underpainting in other techniques - to find form and shape. The second layer I use often for visible bushstrokes, where the glazes later can sink in. The third layer I used because I thought, there could be more highlights.
      I´m painting only with lead white so my paint is always more or less transparent.
      The ground colour always has an effect to the upper layer, if not applied to thick.

      @semihcanakca1762 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@oldmasterpaintings5070 Every white layer has different purposes as well, okay, it makes sense :) I was thinking like white is used for brightness only but i understand better now. Thanks :)

    No wonder the copy looks so miserable when you hear such music! If the basics are missing, that is, the spiritual attitude to an early Baroque work, what should the result be?
