What a hunt guys. Those phone calls never get old and what you guys captured still flat out blows my mind. He showed off and I'm proud of the team for putting this one together. Here's to the next one!
Mike Reed. The one and only. The dude just flat gets it done! Such a cool personality too. Awesome hunt I had a decent 8 put on a show for my just the same way Sunday morning and i hit a branch trying to thread the needle just like you also. It was such a treat to see that one of those once in a lifetime hunts so it didnt even bug me that I hit that limb. He'll be bigger next year hopefully if he makes it through gun season.

Mike's got ice in his veins to handle that pressure and we're just happy for him on how it all worked out. Those extreme angles can be tough, nice shot Mike! Great job behind the camera Gavin! I noticed that buck knew how to grab the turnip plant with his mouth, pluck it out of the ground, and eat the turnip bulb. Really cool footage.
hvlineman5227, for starters our apologies for not getting back to you here soon enough! Over all these years, you've continued to show up for the episodes and we want to say thank you again for taking the time to watch this one. Those tough angles no doubt can be tricky and it's always a tough decision in the moment with adrenaline coursing to make the right decisions. Mike's got ice in his veins and patience that seem to lead him to the right choice time and time again. The deer have really shown that the Rut Greens + Cold Climate mix is a go to option not only early like this hunt... but all the way through today on the fields. We're very pleased with the results! Jimmy, we're not going to argue with the performance over the course of Mike Reed's archery career! Not to mention his week span of shooting 5 does, 1 booner, 1 coyote, and a turkey all with the Rage Hypodermic NC! Regardless of the broadhead debate... we really do appreciate you taking the time to watch the episode and hope you enjoyed it. Best of luck when you hit the woods next and please let us know how your season progresses! Good luck.
Dream big sir! We hope it comes to life for ya. Enjoy the journey and embrace the battles along the way. We appreciate you taking the time to watch and be sure to let us know what you think!
Oldben1800, what we will say is Mike is defintnley dedicated to his goals! With no guarantee that the buck survives with all of the natural things trying to kill them + other hunters in the area, it's definitely a rolling the dice sort of move. You'll have to check back on Monday to see an update on the buck and what's going on with him. Appreciate you taking the time to watch this episode and if you've found time to watch any others from 2024, thank you. The support means a ton and we want to make sure you know that. Had my biggest buck ever come in Saturday morning. Full draw, withing 20y, no shot. He ended up winding me and running off. I had to pout for 2hrs before I got down. 😢
Keep your head in it Corey, the best days are still to come. Hopefully he gives you another shot. Good luck and thank you for taking the time to watch this weeks show!
Had that happen to me last year. Almost gave up hunting after that. Only had him on camera once this year. I fear that was my one and only shot at him.
TheNewBowunter, we really appreciate you taking the time to watch the episode! We're biased as we're super happy any time one of the team puts a buck down... but this one is pretty special to get to relive. Watching a buck do that is flat out rare and the Mike's hunt captured it perfectly. Again, want to stress our appreciation for you taking the time to watch sir!
Soybeans! Hard to get much else to grow on the wetland. A lot of deer end up on the farm late season after getting pushed around during the shotgun season. They find the food and stay the winter. Thanks for watching!
I say that’s your 4 year old;) I lncredibly done Gavin outstanding footage. Congrats mike most guys would have made something happen on that first draw an probably messed up!
Not sure that will be happening anytime soon, but that's a beautiful idea for sure. Mike's hunt seems like it was just yesterday and we hope it's been a great season for you so far! ColbyKittle, we sure appreciate the time you took to watch the video sir! Arrow and broadhead combination is definitely a hot topic and preferential but Mike's pretty happy with the setup he currently uses. I think at this point in the season when we uploaded this video, Mike had shot 9 animals or something like that in a week's span. If you've got a different setup that works for you that's great and hopefully you've had a great season! Out of curiosity where's home and how has the season been? Again, do want to say we appreciate the time you took to watch this video or any video of Midwest Whitetail and do appreciate the opinion you shared. Have a great day man!
@ I live in north west Arkansas. Didn’t kill anything big this year but had all six tags filled before rifle season so it felt pretty short this year. I use to shoot sever 2.0 but kept having shots where there was more arrow on the fletching side hanging out than i would like or sometimes even just an entry, especially on mule deer, so I dropped down to the 1.5 sevr and it’s doing better for me with a 480gr arrow @#75
That was my gut reaction when I first got the trail cam pic of him. It’s hard for us to show all the comparisons but after my neighbor and I got our photos together and reviewed video etc, looking at brows, and other characteristics , this was the older buck. Also you can see how big his body was and his bases etc. I have the sheds off the young one as well which showcase some of the differences in configuration. Oddly enough, two days after I shot vinny, the look alike buck showed up on camera. He’s a beautiful 4 yo. Very easy to tell it’s him. Future target!
Top pin! I’ve have an adjustable site but had it set at 20 yards. Have to aim just below the brisket/body line for correct point of impact. I’m 30ft up in this set so practice these circumstances. You’re right! It’s an easy one to shoot over the back. I’ve done it before!
Tommy, without talking to Mike the only one that comes to mind that may have been closer was the Gronk buck back in 2017 but it's tough to say! Thank you a ton for taking the time to watch and for subscribing all of these years. We sure hope you enjoyed the show and good luck as the best days are upon us!
Tommy, The buck we called Dak was at about 7 yards in the pinch when I shot him in 2021. Also, the turkey foot buck on the home farm out of the cherry tree was at about 7 yards in 2020. While this buck came to the base of the tree, the shot was 7-10 yards from the base thankfully. All three of these bucks were about the same, under the tree! Ha. Gronk was about 10-12 yards away in 2017. Thank you and good luck!
@_eimine_ that's a great question man. First and foremost, thank you for taking the time to watch the video and we're glad to have you here on the channel! Clear is maybe not the best way to share it because for a while there it was hard to tell that it was two bucks during the 2023 season. When Mike says they are clearly different in age, it was the blizzard hunt when both bucks were in the field that really showed the differences. Body size was the easiest indicator as seen at 5:21 in the episode but then you can also factor in things like the posturing behavior that occurs. Other indicators are things that can be studied like the blocky nose on Vinny versus the longer nose on the look alike. If both bucks ran in on you during the 2023 season, you'd be hard pressed to see a difference but it only became that much clearer in 2024. As a new hunter, we hope that you had a great season and wish you the very best of luck if you have any more hunts ahead of you! Thanks for the question, thanks for watching, and have a great day!
If it was 7o0degrees, then how is that deer still good the next day when he's holding it taking pictures? I guess they put it in a big fridge over night?
@Tylerdeerfishfood I am pretty sure that they have a walk in FREEZER THESE GENTLEMEN are some of the most PROFESSIONAL AND BEST HUNTERS ON THE PLANET!!!! "NOT THERE FIRST RODEO"
Anything is possible but there’s a lot of trail cam history and encounters that support Mike’s reasoning to call him a 5 year old. We appreciate you taking the time to watch and hope that you’re enjoying the episode!

@ I check back occasionally to see what it’s like and get disappointed all over again.
@@Huntnfish74916can you do better?
@@CaseO_Outdoors that’s a stupid comment. It’s like a child saying “ I know you are but what am I ”.
Awesome! Living the dream pal! I’m working on my piece of the dream (mike smith). What a wild ride! Now time to watch this video 😂
Dream big sir! We hope it comes to life for ya. Enjoy the journey and embrace the battles along the way. We appreciate you taking the time to watch and be sure to let us know what you think!
WHAT A MEGA BUCK. CONGRATS..!!!
Congrats on “Look Alike!” Heck of a 4yo!
All of us can’t wait to see what he turns into. We appreciate the support and best luck the rest of the season!
@MidwestWhitetailVideos you think it's likely he's on off spring or sibling? Sure appears like it.
10:45 ya....you are clinically insane for that move lol
Oldben1800, what we will say is Mike is defintnley dedicated to his goals! With no guarantee that the buck survives with all of the natural things trying to kill them + other hunters in the area, it's definitely a rolling the dice sort of move. You'll have to check back on Monday to see an update on the buck and what's going on with him. Appreciate you taking the time to watch this episode and if you've found time to watch any others from 2024, thank you. The support means a ton and we want to make sure you know that. Have a great day and good luck hunting as we round out 2024! If you haven't seen them, here's a link to the 2024 playlist with all of the recent episodes.

great hunt mike an filmed by Gavin .congrats a really nice buck an a meat doe ..great job guys
Appreciate you brother! Hope you are having some good hunts yourself! Thank you and good luck!
Corey - totally get it! Had the same thing happen 2 nights ago
Hopefully, it's all part of the story!
Had that happen to me last year. Almost gave up hunting after that. Only had him on camera once this year. I fear that was my one and only shot at him.
Missed mine at 30 this year. Could always be worse…
Incredible!
@@MidwestWhitetailVideos You are quite welcome! Thanks for all you do!
What was planted for that late season mix during the winter hunt?
That was insane video I sure wish I could have got my one and only real Truly great trophy on video.. CONGRATULATIONS
You gotta mill up that massive tree leaning at the end of the food plot
Not sure that will be happening anytime soon, but that's a beautiful idea for sure. Mike's hunt seems like it was just yesterday and we hope it's been a great season for you so far! Wanted to pop in here and say thank you for watching and thank you for leaving a comment. All of it helps the videos and we sure appreciate the support! If you haven't seen any of the other episodes, be sure to check out the entire 2024 season at the video link below. Have a great day!

The Killer strikes again
PurlerWrestling, it's always a good day when Mike makes the "he's-down-call" to the team. Feels like just yesterday that this hunt unfolded and it's been a crazy season since. Hopefully you've had a great hunting season yourself and thanks a million for watching. If you haven't seen of the more recent videos, check them out here from the 2024 season!

First Mike!!!! Congrats man!!!
Way to go Ralph! We appreciate you always taking the time to comment and watch every video. Let us know what you think of the episode when you get finished!
What vegetation you use for food plot in this video? The deer just eat mouthful after mouthful.
Touyang718, thanks for the question! On this hunt, Mike planted the Rut Greens + Cold Climate seed mix from Monsterbuck Foodplot Seed. The link to this blend can be found below and be sure to use the code MWW to save 20% off your order.

Should use heavier arrows or smaller cutting broadheads , or both
ColbyKittle, we sure appreciate the time you took to watch the video sir!
His crab claws look like the look alike ten
That was my gut reaction when I first got the trail cam pic of him. It’s hard for us to show all the comparisons but after my neighbor and I got our photos together and reviewed video etc, looking at brows, and other characteristics , this was the older buck. Also you can see how big his body was and his bases etc. I have the sheds off the young one as well which showcase some of the differences in configuration. Oddly enough, two days after I shot vinny, the look alike buck showed up on camera. He’s a beautiful 4 yo. Very easy to tell it’s him. Future target!
That was an great shot that many would mess up. What pin did you use for 3 yards?
Top pin! I’ve have an adjustable site but had it set at 20 yards. Have to aim just below the brisket/body line for correct point of impact. I’m 30ft up in this set so practice these circumstances. You’re right! It’s an easy one to shoot over the back. I’ve done it before!
Was that the closest shot you have had on a mature buck like that?
Tommy, without talking to Mike the only one that comes to mind that may have been closer was the Gronk buck back in 2017 but it's tough to say! Thank you a ton for taking the time to watch and for subscribing all of these years. We sure hope you enjoyed the show and good luck as the best days are upon us!
Tommy,
The buck we called Dak was at about 7 yards in the pinch when I shot him in 2021.
Congratulations!! Awesome buck! I’m curious to what broadheads do you use? Thanks
38:02 rage no collar
Thanks I missed that part
🙌🙌
Why is it clear that one is a year older? Sorry, newbie here.
Exactly! I’ve got a walk in cooler that we use to make sure the meat stays good!
@@Keybone why would they drag that sucker all the way back out there for pics the next day? Got plenty that evening 😅
To bad that brow missing and one g2 short
Moss gotta be 6 y/o
Anything is possible but there’s a lot of trail cam history and encounters that support Mike’s reasoning to call him a 5 year old. We appreciate you taking the time to watch and hope that you’re enjoying the episode!
