Hi Thanks for the info. Been in the automotive industry for quite a long time now but not on MB. I was in the garage cleaning my car & my daughter just pulled in the driveway & i heard this bad noise under the hood on her suv 2016 gle350. Got the same isue ..first i thought one of the pulley is locking up so i took off the belt and still making noise. It scarred me bec this it maybe the engine crank pulley making noise but i noticed when i shut off the engine still makes noise a second or 2 so i was thinking in the air system. Thanks for the video info. I learned something important today
I found that you can also pull the oil dipstick out about 1/2” inch, you get the same result as removing the oil cap. Great stuff. Thank you. In your professional opinion, how long should an experienced mechanic take to complete the entire repair?
so I have this problem on my Mercedes e 350... the dealership did a diagnostic test and came back with saying its a centrifuge crank case cover??? basically the same as you just demonstrated in the video... they want to charge me 2000 bucks to fix it.... what say you...when I look this up under parts I get a Crank case ventilation valve everytime... what say you...or somebody please help!!!!
Thank you so much. This helped me find the squeak. But now how to fix it. The crankcase vent valve looks difficult to replace on my 2014 c300 it’s behind the passenger cylinder head.
NoNonsenseKnowHow any possible way to get a exploded view of where this valve goes. Or maybe a replacement guide that tells the steps needed? I just don’t wanna go into it blind.
Yeah you might be able to look at some parts diagrams add a Mercedes parts website. Or call the dealer for a diagram. Might be best to just bring it somewhere for the repair if you can't find a video on it
NoNonsenseKnowHow thanks I will continue to look but not having luck finishing my model year. Called the dealer and they want 1200$ labor to start. I think I can muscle they it for that price
I have the same car and same issue just started today anyone can tell me what the dealership price should be for full repair? By the way thank you so much for this video
I am getting this noise recently on my 2011 GLK350 with almost 70K miles. Does some kind of error code message display on the dash? I don't see any on mine. Or do I just take it to a mechanic? The noise stops when I apply the brakes though.
Same noise and codes with my 2014 C300. Bought the PCV from Rock Auto..$45. Installed only the diaphragm cove, internal diaphragm and spring....old diaphragm had a small tear ...good as new. Dealer wanted $580+diagnostics+tax...Thanks ...Saved me time and $$
Im experiencing the exact same noise. Its not the belt or pulley. I havent checked the oil cap tip you showed, but if it does stop when its removed. What part are you suggesting needs replacing? I could'nt quite make it out in the video. I read a comment below and searched part number for Crank Case Vent Valve...but what then is the black tube youre pressing on next to the oil cap?
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow I called my local dealership to get the part number so I can buy the correct part for my vehicle and...they told me the crankcase vent valve is not the same as the PCV valve. As you stated in your video, the CVV is located near the firewall which the dealership concurred. But the PCV valve is located up front. Part number for the CVV for my 2014 GLK350 is 2760100331and is about $100. I found them on eBay OEM for $82. A mechanic I use regularly quoted me $100 (labor) to replace the CVV. I'll report back when its done to let you know if it solved the problem.
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow GLK fixed. The CVV was the offending part. The total charge was $733, which included a set of plenum gaskets and a breather hose. Problem solved! And YOU saved me the $180 diagnosis fee. Thanks!
I think I am having the opposite of this issue. I changed my crankcase vent a while ago so I know that is good but I have pressure in the crankcase instead of vacuum. When I remove my oil cap I see specks of oil kind of flick out and I think while the car is running it is forcing oil out through the cap. I also have a whistle sort of noise but not this loud and appears to be coming from the front of the intake manifold. I sprayed it with break cleaner and it goes away temporarily and the engine shakes a bit. Would this symptoms indicate a leak in the front of my intake manifold? I have the m273 engine and the manifold has gaskets on the side would it likely be one of the rubber hoses in front of the intake? I'm not a mechanic so I don't really know the names for everything so i'm sure my explanation sounds pretty bad but any help would be appreciated.
Since you said you said you changed the vent, that's where I suspect the problem is. I'm just guessing and playing the odds, so no offense, but people do screw things up. If somehow that vent is not actually letting air in, then you would likely have exactly the problem you described, which is a slight bit of pressure venting when you remove the oil cap, and a small amount of air steadily exiting. You should be able see it as a faint smokey vapor exiting, if the eng is fully warm. Another clue you have actual pressure is when under load it gets a lot worse and it'll push the oil dipstick out about 1/2" until it can vent from there. So push it all the way in, drive it, maybe floor it, then check the dipstick. Or I could be totally wrong :p, but that's my #1 suspect. Whatever the case, post if you have fixed it, to help others out...
@@chevota400 i actually fixed this. It was the intake manifold…. the runner was kind of sticking giving me this noise intermittently. Good thing I caught it early even before any codes.
Yeah I thought for sure it was going to be a belt squealing on a seized up pulley. But once I heard under the hood, it definitely had a different sound to it.
Ya actually very common with German vehicles in general. Volkswagen, Volvo, BMW, and Mercedes. They all make that misleading sound that the pcv system makes when the valve fails. That noise is air getting sucked in thru the crank seal and like you showed the easiest way to diagnose it is the pcv system is to simply take of the oil cap.. On that car if you disconnect that line you were putting pressure on and block off both sides the noise should be gone. That tells you it's the actual centrifuge that is the issue.
I had a doubt on the same on my ML350/W166 which was coming from engine crankcase vent valve. Had a service recall recently and the technician said it’s the vacuum plate on the back of the right cylindrical head. Are you referring the same?
NoNonsenseKnowHow The part costs about $50 to $100 online but dealer has it as $142. The labor quote you wouldn’t believe is close to $1000. Of course it’s from the dealer. I think it’s a 4 hour job and the engine will need to be taken apart. Still it’s not worth that much of the cost in my opinion.
Well- we couldn’t get very far before the car was inoperable. Had to get towed to Mercedes. Diagnosis- centrifuge valve failure. 4-5 days to get part; $1400 to repair

The noise you're hearing is air passing through the front crank seal due to high vacuum. Pop the diaphragm cover off the vent valve, remove the diaphragm and spring, cannibalize the same parts off a new valve assembly and reassemble.
