  • Jonas Vingegaard says he understands Tadej Pogacar's desire to win and doesn't expect him to gift him any win in the Tour de France 2024. Today, he rode clear with Pogacar in Stage 20 to Col de la Couillole. #TDF

      No agree, t
esterday you were at Remco`s wheels the last kilometers and you didn't attack him at the end, you let him pass before you, that is a decent and gentlemanly attitude, but Tadej is not at your level in this terms

@@cristianrecabarren5891Yeah, Vingeggard said he would have "probably" done the same. So it is not 100% sure. But you are not being fair comparing today's situation with yesterday's; since today they fought for the stage (is not a minor thing) Nothing to blame Pogacar here. Maybe some riders in his position wouldn't have done what he did, but I think most would. And actually Pogacar helped Vingeggard a bit, he took the lead a bit, what helped Vingeggard to increase the gap over Remco, which was his main goal.

While I admire Jonas’ riding, I thought him to be somewhat boring. After hearing so many thoughtful and interesting interviews from him this year and combined his comeback from injury, his personality is shining through. He doesn’t need me as a fan but I am now and can’t wait to see a healthy Jonas in future competitions.

I think there is something else explaining why Pogacar hsrdly collaborated with Vingeggard on that attack: Pogacar has serious chances to win tomorrow, so not giving it all today was intelligent. I think he collaborated a bit to be sure they caught Carapaz and Más, so that he would have a chance to win. But no reason to do much more than that. You dont want to get wins gifted to you by your biggest rival. Its almost kinda disrespect if he wouldnt try his best. I see no reason why Tadej should have not go for the win today, he already didnt took any time to Jonas he could have for sure gained more time on jonas if he wanted to.

I beg to differ, my young friend. You wouldn't be so cruel. I don't think you'd stay behind, all the while capable of overcoming everyone like a train engine, look around as if in fear and expectation when only two remained, just to casually accelerate as if you were at the beginning of the stage, not a stone's throw away from the finishing line.

@@vitusbystedmller3501 Then watch his interview last year after stage 17 (the stage in which he cracked). Even after losing the TdF, he still thanks his team mates and says that he’s grateful to have such support. He doesn’t only do this when he wins, he ALWAYS thanks his team and talks respectful about other riders.
Also, there is a huge difference between hoping that your enemy will crack and admitting it publicly. I don’t think Jonas is a bad sportsman, I just used a previous example to write the narrative the other way around.

So it ought to be obvious that they hope that Pogi will crack as it is their plan... That is part of the sport... Saying 'A true sportsman doesn’t pray on the downfall of his competitor' is just stupid... It would be right if Jonas hoped for Pogi to crash og have a mecanical, that would be bad sportsmanship

What is it with my favorite sport? In what other sport is it disrespectful to dominate? Should the other players in the NBA have told Michael Jordan to stop playing so hard and winning so many championships. Should the other 400 meter hurdlers have complained when Edwin Moses was on his 100 meet winning streak because it is disrespectful for him to keep beating them. Should Tiger Woods have stopped winning so many majors because it is disrespectful? How about Serena Williams? Simone Biles? Michael Phelps? Are these athletes disrespectful for winning so much? NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO DICTATE TO TADEJ HOW HE SHOULD RACE. It is such nonsense. how about this: Just compete. Get better. Beat him because you were better and not because you asked him to purposely lose a race.

Ok I will attempt to answer. Cycling in stage races is as much about raw power as it is political..the peloton is a family. Tadej no matter how strong he is needs his team and needs other teams to win. They scratch each others back all the time which is why it is interesting to watch the alliances in breakaways and chases also why a win by VC means more than a win by JP . If you can.. watch stage 19 of the 2011 Giro.

The fact is, Visma used for years dirty tactics, not battling, but weaken the other rider, isolating him, tiring him out, waiting that the sun exposure his weakness to heat, everything that helps winning was allowed. Furthermore, the last stage is a time trial. Thus, why he expects presents❓An apex predator against another one. Still, if there would be no final time trial, maybe he would get the present. But a time trial at the end is wild, one puncture, one mechanical, you can loose it all. Consequently, a bigger time gap is a life insurance.Anyhow, in this Tour, I am not sure whether Tadel or Jonas is the true champ. Jonas must have worked so hard, fighting three weeks, what a great story; surely the next Netflix story.
