It depends on the person. Would you risk someone possibly screwing up your work that you spent days, week, if not months on? Not every art is made to be played with or touched, they're meant to be admired. They're not 'precious' about their work, they just want to maintain the fruit of their labour and cherish it--and there isn't anything wrong with that. Sure, this man lets his kids play with it and whatnot--but that's why he made them in the first place. It's not that he isn't attached or so 'precious' as you say he is to his work, it's just part of the purpose why he makes them. Just cause one leaves their work in the open to be touched and the other puts it behind a thick glass doesn't mean either should be undermined. This dude has an insane level of patience to do things like this. That's absolutely incredible that he has actually built all these pieces. But yeah, especially with the levels of patience and concentration it takes to make even a part of these, I wish I could do something like this.
I imagine for him it doesn't require any patience at all - he gets into a flow state and loses himself in the work for hours at a time. If he didn't need to eat, sleep, go to the bathroom or attend to other chores, I bet he could happily exist forever in a semi-conscious trance/zen state while putting matchsticks together.

Amazing work. His US capitol model is so amazing that I can easily imagine his model displayed in the visitor’s center of the actual US capitol. I hope he donate or will his pieces to big places like that.
I could see that Notre Dame sculptor sitting inside the real thing as a reference to “Before the fire of 2019” so people can look at it and then tour the new one. THAT would be amazing. Beautiful, meticulous, patient works of art. Thanks for the show, gents.
His skill set is definitely unmatched. You can tell he has a burning passion for building matchstick models and it shows. And if he sticks to building new models each year he will go down as the best ever. Just hope he has his shop insured, it would suck to see it all go up in smoke. Hopefully it’ll be around for many years to come, as I’m sure field trip visits would be sure to ignite youngsters into building models as well.
THAT, IS THE MOST INCREDIBLE THING I’VE EVER SEEN!!! My mind is COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY!! Holy sh@t!!! The patients and talent and vision are unprecedented! Truly incredible!!
When you take all of his work in you can really tell he's a well studied man. From classical/renaissance style architecture with the Capital building, gothic architecture with the notre dam, trains, sailboats/ships to more modern ships like the USS Iowa, space shuttles. You could probably ask him "how does this work?" for any machine or vehicle in the world and he'd give a more than satisfactory answer.
I would go farther then you on your description of this incredible collection of work. I say it is the best thing I've ever seen someone create. The fact that you built the Notre Dame Cathedral in less than 2 years is stunning. I can't imagine that. Well done. You get an infinite number of thumbs up from me.

shop keeper: "How many boxes of match sticks do you need?"
Patrick Acton: "Yes."
He's as awed by his work as the rest of us, probably more, because he made it.
That's what every artist should strive for.
This man has the patience of a thousand men... his marriage must be perfect
*DOUBT*
He probably does it to get away from his wife
That's why he spends all his free time in a cellar room. xD
She always knows where he is.
She doesn't have to worry about him going anywhere because he's always in the workshop making new stuff
“My match stick models are the coolest things I’ve ever made.”
His kids: :(
@Boomcaca I don’t see this comment anywhere...
@Boomcaca you probably go to a meme channel and say "HEY THATS COPIED TAKE THIS DOWN NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" it's so annoying. People can think alike.
He didn't make it though.
You guys bullied him until he took the comment down LOL
He aint wrong
This man: "Hour by hour, stick by stick"
The Equalizer: "Dollar by dollar, brick by brick"
Coincidence? I think not. This man is the match stick equalizer.
If gluing matchsticks back together into sheets after someone has taken the sheets and turned them into matchsticks counts as suffering for your art, then this guy has found the ultimate loophole in life.
7.5 million match sticks and 7.4 million views ! Well deserved for a very talented human!
This man is single handedly keeping the match stick industry in business
that’s adorable the way he’s smiling when he’s talking about the thing he likes to do with machsticks ❤️
Besides the actual models, making sheets out of match books is absolutely incredible!
This is the most generically sad but not sad hobby of all time.
What an incredible man with and incredible talent. It’s overwhelmingly impressive.
Well played sir.
This is the perfect definition for "One in a Million"
You are the most mind boggling and fascinating human being Ever walk this earth...

Agreed, he is indeed awesome! Thanks for watching, more eps coming up soon! Cheers- Guy

Isn’t it ironic how all it takes to destroy everything is one match
Well that could be said for most things ...
@@NicoDiAngelo603 like your mom
@@ontop2324 ouch. But like not incorrect. Fire would destroy most people I suspect.

YOU STOLE ALL THE GLUE!
Your artwork is beautiful and totally awesome 🤘🤔🧐🇺🇸
I’d love to see u light that shit up
Excellent artiste 👍👍

I don't think iv ever been so impressed as I am now, I started a matchstick boat kit when I was a kid. I never finished that 8inch kit
It's pretty insane, just the sheer amount of stuff he does as well. We usually feature just one thing on this channel, but he had I think over 100 that he had done over time. Thanks for watching! More eps coming up soon! Cheers- Guy
Amazing work. His US capitol model is so amazing that I can easily imagine his model displayed in the visitor’s center of the actual US capitol. I hope he donate or will his pieces to big places like that.
For sure, not sure what his plans for them are for after, but great idea. Cheers- Guy
I could see that Notre Dame sculptor sitting inside the real thing as a reference to “Before the fire of 2019” so people can look at it and then tour the new one. THAT would be amazing. Beautiful, meticulous, patient works of art. Thanks for the show, gents.
Ha donate? I'd be surprised if he doesnt sell it
Notre Dame in matchsticks. Just as flammable as the original!
That 40 years of love, devotion, and skill and none of it was wasted at all impressive indeed
I guess he really *sticks* to his hobbies

His skill set is definitely unmatched. You can tell he has a burning passion for building matchstick models and it shows. And if he sticks to building new models each year he will go down as the best ever. Just hope he has his shop insured, it would suck to see it all go up in smoke. Hopefully it’ll be around for many years to come, as I’m sure field trip visits would be sure to ignite youngsters into building models as well.
Patrick, I LOVE your work. Such a natural, open man! Thank you.
I love this guy. He took his time to build something that he loves and I wish he can be more successful in the future.
He's pretty awesome indeed! Thanks for watching! Cheers- Guy
He should stick with this hobby, Nobody can match him.
Heavy is dead, But he has 1000 Subscribers this need more likess
Hahahaha 😂😂
Well, maybe nobody can match him, but there's sure to be a splinter group out there.
Don't ever go near him with a piece of flint in your hand.
Oof nice copied comment. Pathetic
Seeing the amount of detail this man has put in over 40 years is insane, I don't know if I'd have time to complete even one model! Super cool
You and me both!

Plus he recreated Dom’s Charger from “The Fast and the Furious”.
That has got to be the most random hobby I've ever heard of, but he is surely a master at it.
I would go farther then you on your description of this incredible collection of work. I say it is the best thing I've ever seen someone create. The fact that you built the Notre Dame Cathedral in less than 2 years is stunning. I can't imagine that. Well done. You get an infinite number of thumbs up from me.
