I am so delighted that he chooses to sing this. I don't know why we Pakistanis tend to try and distance ourselves from our rich and glorious culture of the Indian sub-continent. It's a treat to hear his Soulful singing. Little surprising to find pure shastriya sangeet gayak from Pak. His initial words that "Ram-Sita ki kahani hai, uss jamane me to sb gaa lete the, koi masla nahi tha" hv many deep meanings for those who understand. Although, I am unable to get the lyrics line by line , I have done a loose translation of a few lines: Lanka Charho Raam Ram march/marched to Lanka Jeet gayo, garh saban He conquered all forts Dhoom machi jag main baaj gayo danka The world became enthralled with his victory, his victory garnered immense praise. I hope the family will correct me If I am wrong and provide the complete meaning for the bandish. How impatiently I was waiting for this treat. I knew it in my heart that The Dream Journey would find him and ask him to perform this. Sami shb is a window to the music genres of past with in their utmost purity. Thanks for the appreciation. Subs are standard for our regular sessions videos. They may be missing in our lockdown sessions or in classical bandishein where it is basically one verse often repeated and isn't as important.

ustad sami has performed on a track in the movie the reluctant fundamentalist titled "too much blood has poured in this river" , and there's a note sami sahab hits at 2:23 in that song. that's when i realised that music can touch a person at a level that's really deep ! that note still shakes me every time i hear it.
