Excellent review Vincent. Any comments from your contacts at TCL about the problem of the black bars (local dimming algorithm) and the APL dependent colorimetry ? Do they plan to fix it with updates or should we not count on it ?

Don't ever rely on TCL for software updates. They have had 480p scaling issues in multiple TV models of them for like 4+ years, which they promised to fix in updates, and it still hasn't been. Only factor in updates if it is already available _before_ you buy a product.

  • @onclebat7112

Black bar issue is really a heart breaker. I own this TV and love everything about it except for black bars with cinemascope content… hope TCL will come with an update by the end of the year or I will have to ask for a refund, this issue is not acceptable with mini led technology.

HI, I have this TV and no, they didn't.
It also has bad ghosting artifacts when using VRR.
In game mode with DTM (detail) brightens the image too much, whereas, if you choose HGIG, you get a somewhat good balance, but the image darkens too much
Also, if you are going to use 120hz on pc (144hz never worked...), you have to limit the bandwidth to 40gb with CRU, otherwise you will have intermittent video signal drops.
I have had this TV since August and I am not at all satisfied with it....
      Hope it helps

@@mattiacarraro1041VRR is broken on this TV, I disabled it on mine and it's not a big deal to me personally as I believe VRR is not that good of a feature. On consoles it's actually useless in many games because many console games have a fixed fps and basically never drops from the target. On PC, If your GPU isn't powerful enough to hit your monitor refresh rate then you can always manually set a fps limit slightly below the average fps your system runs a specific game at. VRR is only really useful to prevent stuttering in unstable games where there are regular fps drops.

The black crush of the QN95C at 1:46 is the reason I always used my Q90R with local dimming set to low.
I did lose some peak brightness but on the plus side I also lost some blooming-strength, increased shadow detail and still kept some of the deep blacks and the lovely QLED color richness.
I hope a similar compromise is still possible on the QN95C.

Have no idea what TV this is relative to U.S. models. All of the U.S. models are "Q" or "S" models, I believe. The stats don't exactly match the QM8, which is an "8" series and mini-LED. It appears the global model line still uses a lot of "C" models. Makes comparing a bit confusing.

Is there a way to find out what TCL has addressed in firmware updates and what models they pertain to? Like a list. In 2 seconds, I can find out what was addressed on my LG OLED but, TCL (no comment) doesn't have that. They go through Roku and Google TV but, I want to know if they addressed something in the models I own or one I might buy. It's like trying to find a needle in a stack of needles. I won't buy anymore, because I never know if they address firmware or software issues. Telling me that it's version 12.0 and how to update, all over the internet with zero breakdown or list of anything, is why I won't buy front them anymore.

I've seen several reviews and video comparisons showing how U8K has almost ZERO blooming nearly identical to OLEDs with significantly deep blacks. That TV is a beast. It had $100 knocked off its price just a few days ago in Canada (yes I'm closely watching for a good price drop) and am sure its further going to go down here as well as in other markets. The U8K also seems to edge out TCL's latest and greatest, the QM8, as per several reviews -- its not as bright as TCL at peak brightness but extreme brightness levels are reserved for HDR content at/above 1000 nits which U8K is capable of handling with 1,500-nit peak brightness.

Do you guys ever test the audio delay when using eARC with a home theater when using another input for the source, for example hooking up a PS5 to the TV, then using the eARC for audio on a receiver? My TCL 55R635 is not bad in a lot of ways but the audio delay makes me want to throw it in the garbage and buy a new TV sometimes. I don't see much coverage of this problem with TVs. When playing a vid from an internal app such as Netflix, there may or may not be a delay with audio depending on the app. Amazon Prime was always the worst while other apps are fine or not bad enough to be a problem. You can't use lip-sync settings as it only delays audio further. Also for gaming it wrecks the experience when audio is lagging behind by 1/4 second or whatever.

It is easy to see Vincent knows his stuff but if I’m honest I normally only get five mins into one of his videos before getting bamboozled with all the technical jargon which for me a turn off.
I get there are many aspect to finding the strengths and weaknesses of a tv and given the cost of them folk want solid advice but I’m not sure your average Joe wants the kind of deep dive Vincent chats about . That’s not to say it’s not valuable but I really would like a shorter more to the point review along the lines of … for £1000 buy this because it’s just the best you can get for the money because of the following reasons …..
Clear and concise. I certainly wouldn’t buy a tv I had to adjust the settings on depending on the type of programming other than to say switch between a movie or a sports mode ( for motion tracking) , never mind adjusting brightness.
I would certainly take a recommendation from Vincent I just wish it was one I could understand without all the jargon.

Hi, Does the TCL C845 have PVR/Timeshift function or not?
On TCL global website in the specifications (additional feature) for all C845 display sizes is written that the the TV has PVR/Timeshift (Comply with different regional standards).
A few of my friends have this device, but they can't manage to operate it, there is not such function.
The C845 did recognize the external SSD and HDD via USB Port, but they still could not bring to work any PVR/Timeshift function on it.
