  • Megan and Drew talk about some of the different sidemount harnesses and what is different between the few that we have experience diving in.
This is the first video in our Let's Talk series where we sit down and have a conversation about dive topics ranging from gear choices, techniques, and common questions we get asked as dive proffesionals.

I've just got my first side mount wing and went for the Stealth Tec 2.0 over the Apeks WSXs. I agree about the slightly odd rubber D-rings. But I was told by XDeep that the little triangular fittings are actually to secure the 'wings' of the BC, so on each side you use a small single-ender on a short bungee from the loop at the point of the wing and hook it direct to that steel fitting. It's an alternative to the traditional way of having the bungee go all the way across your front and through the crotch strap loop. It de-clutters your front a bit and you just leave it clipped so there's one less thing to secure when you put it on.

Whats the purple crotch bungee at 9:15 for? Also any reason for not just running your wing bungee's through the crotch strap? Also why are the drop D-Rings so high? Are you not using them, they look almost useless? I saw later in your video's you have the lower tank strap about mid-way on the tank, if you lower the waist strap you can lower those bands and help with floating tails some. Most folks I know run the waist strap around their hips and not the waist. Agreed on the soft D-Rings, tossed those as soon as I saw them on my Tec. Thanks for the video, I like your idea for carrying fins.

On the Classic the wing goes on after the harness and is only held on by bungee; there are a pair of cords on each side on the corners and another that goes from the bottom and up through the crotch. The upper ones are linked by a boltsnap at the front and at 9:15 you can just see them between the weight belt and inflator. The bottom pair linked with the bottom bungee are what you commented on. Agree that the waist strap looks like it would work better about 4 inches lower down.
