Had an interesting experience on live-aboard on Northern Wrecks (Red sea). First live aboard on side mount. Travelling from ship to reef with full team on rib. Mainly single tank and a few re-breathers. Pretty rough. They told us to roll out ,all together and descend immediately to avoid the rough waves. Had to make sure all set up correctly and then roll backwards. Not easy but got used to it. No time to get leg over and someone handing you right tank. Love all these videos.

We always have on the boat short (about 2 meters) ropes with a boltsnap and a float on the end, you can fasten the equipment before you get into the boat, they also help the diver to stay near the boat in the current/waves.

Thank you for sharing this. I'm just starting my side mount training so this is great to watch; hopefully next year I'll be back there at the Inland Sea! And some good general diving and instructional points being brought out too. Back in my initial career training I was once told: "Amateurs practise till they get it right; professionals practise till they don't get it wrong." I've applied that to diving and it's proved again a great mantra to follow.

A simple back roll with both cylinders donned works very well in tough conditions

I've just come back from Gozo, are you always based there? Think i saw your rib at the Inland Sea, if i wanted to do side mount training, what dive shop are you working from? how long is the course & do you have the equipment or do you need to bring your own?

Hi, Vas is based there for quite a while each year please get in touch with him www.sidemounting.com/about-vas/. I visit and do some courses but not sure I will visit in 2024 yet. The boat is not ours, it belongs to a dive centre close to the inland sea where you where, we just rent it when we need it. Vas will answer all your questions and one of the best people to train you without a doubt. Cheers, Steve

Actually, using empty aluminium tanks you become LESS buoyant when donning them.
