  • 🎛 These are my FabFilter Pro-L2 settings so you can get your tracks as loud as mine!
    👉🏼 Make sure you have the attack on slow, and the release on fast
    🙅🏻‍♂️ This way, I'm hardly attacking the sound...
    👍🏼 It's going through as a brick wall limiter

    For anyone confused, the Pro-L 2 doesn’t work like an average compressor: there are two processing stages. The Attack knob does not affect the initial transient phase like you may expect; that’s controlled by the Lookahead knob. The Attack and Release knobs affect the onset of the ‘release’ stage of the limiter. As a result, a fast Lookahead, slow Attack, and Fast release will lead to louder masters at the risk of additional distortion. Good tip 👍🏻

    I’m sure I’ve seen three different videos on the same subject from Streaky all with different settings 😂
    However the slow attack definitely sounds louder when I’ve tested it too

    Streaky, Hello! In one of the videos you showed that you always turn off "true peak limiting" knob but in this video it's turned on. Did u just forget about turning it off or you changed your mind?

    I always thought brick wall limiters had fast attack, so the sound hits the brick wall quickly? I never knew the attack was supposed to be slow. Perhaps you could dive deeper into the explanation?

    • @levondarratt787
      @levondarratt787 ปีที่แล้ว

      it isnt. Pro Tip - the ATTACK refers to when the release STARTS,,,,,the slower it is the longer the limiter limits. SO its teh opposite.

    Isn’t that basically turning it into a sort of clipper? Albeit, probably a soft clipper. I do this trick all the time with Smart:Limit from Sonible, so I know it works!

      It is basically that but proL has something else going on in its algorythms that Will Give you a nicer sound than if you just used a soft clipper, I personally use a soft clipper and then a limiter after

    I put the same settings as you, but can you explain me why the track sounds with too much highs? Like I pushed it with EQ 😂

    • @teddycook1299
      @teddycook1299 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pushing a brickwall limiter or clipper inevitably causes distortion. That may be what you’re hearing. It’s not always pleasant, but it can be right.
      Also, slow attack effectively makes transients faster and sharper, which for some reason our brains equate with “brightness” similar to how we perceive boosted highs.

    That’s not what the attack function does…
    But you’re right it does make it loader with a slow attack
