I never drop my baits that low to a school of fish, lol. Great way to spend the afternoon catching all the dinks, lol. The bigger ones are more aggressive and will come up higher to a bait- creates competition and they'll usually wack it before it "gets away" The littler perch don't want to climb too high.....they'd get eaten by a northern or a walleye if they are near, lol. Be ready for those too! This video was before tungsten for sure, lol. We love our FL-18's (my wife and I and her dad have them). I also have a Marcum LX-5, which is a slight upgrade to an FL-18, but I use my FL-18 more often on our home lake because it's fantastic in shallow water. The Marcum doesn't do as great separating fish from bottom sometimes when we're walleye fishing, so it's nice to turn down the power and see them a bit better.

The FL-18 is good to 200 and the FLX-20 to 300

I have learned a lot about ice fishing from your videos. Thank you. However, I wonder...why use lure when using live or any bait. To me, lure is a substitute for bait. As in artificial bait. Why waste money on lures when a few cents can purchase a hook? After all the hook of the lure is what impales the fish.

The lure attracts the fish with color and flash and the live bait seals the deal.

When I fish for walleyes I usually use a lure with a minnow head on it for scent, and I keep a dead stick line in the water with a minnow on it. Sometimes the walleye comes up...looks at the minnow and sees my lure moving and goes for the lure. Other times it's the other way around. Then there are the rare times when I get two walleyes at the same time- it's a hand full, lol.
