    Oh man, when I was in college I bought an original Beetle for a few hundred bucks. I sold it to buy a car with AC and modern amenities. It didn't handle very well, and lugged going up even moderate grades, but was amazing in snow...the worst snowstorm couldn't stop it! Those things go for megabucks now. I could whack myself for selling it :-(

    I have an R-line and I do not get your complaint about the seatbelts. This is my second Beetle (my first was a 2012 5 cylinder, and my dealer recently talked my into the R-Line), and I have never had any trouble grabbing the seatbelt in either. I grab it with my left hand every time I get in it very easily.
    BTW, I am 6'3" and live in Chicago. The Bug is a great small city car for tall people. That should be mentioned in contrast to cars like the Mini. I REALLY wanted to like the Mini, but I feel claustrophobic in it. The Beetle gives guys like us plenty of headroom and storage. I am an ice hockey goalie, and I get all my gear in this car easily, even with the back seats intact. If I need to take a teammate with me, I fold the back seats down and we get all our gear in there, along with suitcases for traveling tournaments.

    Love the looks of this car. Probably the best looking Beetle, in my opinion. But too bad it's little more than an appearance package. No off-road capability and also not a true sports car. Still looks great though.

    I love these reviews simply for the road you use to test drive the cars. It's absolutely gorgeous! I live in MD and we have some beautiful scenic roads, but none that I've been on like that one!

    • @MintyGT
      @MintyGT 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ccmaster86 Frederick, MD has some pretty nice driving roads, but you have to search for a good one with low traffic and that can take a while.

    • @ccmaster86
      @ccmaster86 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TBTGaming I don't know if that's a coincidence but Frederick is actually where I live. Yeah Gambrill and areas between Frederick and Urbana are pretty nice driving roads, but they are getting busier so it's harder to just relax and drive than it used to be.

    Seat belt reaching tip on VW 2 door cars: reach with your left arm for the down end of the seat belt, VW uses a rod where the seat belt may slide to the front making it super easy to reach. People are used to a bolted bottom end.
    This way the seat belt does not block acces to the rear seat and no extra plastic parts required.
    I have to explain this to every new passenger on my GTI MKV trying some contorsion movements on their seat.

    Seatbelt on one door cars is to be held easiest by using left hand reaching out back not over your shoulder, but under through belly level. Try it, so easy. Thats how I do and have no problem.

    Aggressive gearing?
    The gearing which i do not understand. When do you call a gear aggressive? Is it a good thing or a bad from different point of view: from economical pov / performance pov?
    Which one is better in the city for traffic jams? (In a city i'm dealing with traffic jams all the time.)
    It was always told to me first gear is for start the the car to move second gear is for 12-15 mph and so on. Is it ok to hit 60 with 2nd gear? Does this car maintain 60mph in wich gear? Why does it need 6th gear?
    How should i imagine this?

    Supposedly, the Dune won't be available until 2017 now. I heard if you wanted the dune... then you have to order it. Right now, many dealerships in the US have very low stock on the Beetle in general. Not even much 2.0L turbos. Is this a sign?

    with the delay in manual selection, you get used to it pretty quick if your in the car often. as well, sometimes the delay seems to be reduced (in the bmw e46 at least) if you take your foot off the throttle. so after a while you start to hit the shift 250-500rpm before redline, then quickly release accelerator and reapply once you hit the redline

    As a former beetle owner, I will say that it is one of the loudest new cars I have been in as far as how poorly road noise is insulated from the cabin. Also the wind noise with the windows down is horrible. The seatbelt cuts through the air and you hear turbulence too closely to your ear over 35 mph.

    I used to work at VW/Audi and every so often they would bring in the new line up along with some rental cars that fall in the same category, and would let us do different tests and obstacles with all the cars. after, we can take them on a drive in the back road of Hillsboro area. at the end of the day one person got to take the top of the line model home for the night, whatever it may be that year ... well not the r8 ect but yeah

    If you had the "little clip" how would people get into the back of the car as it is only a 3 door?

    I like that your shoulder is not bumping against the B pillar like it would in a four door. Regarding the shoulder belt, that is something that you would probably get used too..

    Quick question, is the beetle still considered a feminine car (I've always wanted a beetle, but I'm 193cm, and 109 kgs)?

      +Maan Salha I try not to care about these stereotypes. Drive what you enjoy and ignore those who have a desire to be mean.

    • @Skydrag.V60
      @Skydrag.V60 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The new beetle would definitely be considered a "feminine" car, but since the facelift in I wanna say 2011 makes it a much more aggressive looking car.
      As the other guy stated however, you shouldn't be too caught up with it, if you like it, then go for it; so it's really up to you.

      I wish people would understand that that cars should be gender neutral. There are more important things to worry about, that people don't care about.

    • @omaralsaadi1751

      well the idea for the beetle started from Adolf Hitler and his National socialist party in the 1930's , a party known for participating in a global war that costed tens of millions of lives so.....? :P
      I don't think it's a feminine car at all , it was intended to be a family car.
      heck , its name translates to "the people's car"

    • @TheGuardianReflex
      @TheGuardianReflex 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Gslash25 Yeah, this car is kind of a bad joke. The old bugs actually could be converted into decent buggies. If they made a version of this car with the Golf R's AWD system and engine, with much more aggressive off road tires, lift, and better shocks it would be kind of novel and interesting, but instead its just a shitty beetle with sport pretensions it nowhere even remotely lives up to.

    • @Butters_Stunts
      @Butters_Stunts 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +GuardianReflex that would be a great idea, I could totally see that being a new beetle that someone would want to drive

      My BRZ has one and it pops right open with little effort when I need to fit someone into my tiny back seats. Same deal with the Mustang and most 2+2 coupes and hatchbacks.

    • @EngineeringExplained
      @EngineeringExplained  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      So there's no way to go around the seatbelt in the Mustang? Or any other car with two doors and rear seats?

    • @mysliwya
      @mysliwya 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      *****
      that's cool I remember getting into a two door cavalier we had to crawl under the belt it was annoying. So my assumption is VW did not want it to be in the way like that. I guess the Brz and mustang had a better solution. They are also more premium cars this is just a beetle we are talking about don't expect to be on par with a mustang.

      It's literally a strap with a push clip. It would cost VW like $1 tops, they just didn't bother.
