I bought one of the Dune convertible editions in 2017 and absolutely love it! In 2022 I still get a lot of compliments. I have had zero problems with it. I will never get rid of it. And yes it is fun to drive.
What makes it fun to drive
The last gen VW Beetle can't win. Years ago the complaint of the old Beetle was, it's cold in the winter, it's only has forty horsepower, it's to slow, the engine is in the back, its air cooled, the front windows fog up, it has rotten trunk space etc. All those issues are fixed. What do you hear now, the engine isn't in the back, it's front wheel drive, it's water cooled, it doesn't have the character of the old one, etc.
It's top down motoring and the platform is on a previous gti. This combination makes it fun to drive.
Looks great in my opinion.

And it was a brand new car. No wonder they discontinued the thing. I'd be seriously p*ssed if my new car came to me like that :)
These truly are great driving cars unlike the new beetle that came out in the late 90's

Love the body coloured metallic interior panels, more cars should have them again.
It's slower than my 2003 Beetle Turbo S. When you guys reviewed that car it did a quarter mile in 6.7 seconds, and some have tested it at 6.5 seconds. It does have a 180 hp 20v 1.8t with a six speed manual, and the ride comes stock lowered. I'd like to see the review again on the 2003 Turbo S; I know Motor Week did it because that's I first heard of that car.
TheManInDboX I meant to say 0-60. Quarter mile is probably more like 15 or 16 secs.
LEDs last fifty thousand hours if your not facing a big lawsuit. =)

Plenty of head room due to the bubble top design.
In Brazil, the enginne is 2.0 turbo, 220hp.
In Brazil is named Fusca is unique engine 2.0 turbo, 220 hp. Very beautiful this Beetle Dune

*sigh* I am getting so annoyed at the car market these days. Want a little ride height? Can't get a manual. Want some power? Can't get ride height. Want all wheel drive? Can't get lots of things.
The marketing people would tell you that nobody wants an all-wheel drive manual transmission wagon with some light off-road capability and some good power and on-road manners, but goshdarnit I want one...and nobody will sell me one q_q

this really needs the 2.0 T and all-wheel drive to be relevant. Otherwise, it's just a body package.
Agreed. Plus with the way the aftermarket goes, it would not surprise me if by now there is a bodykit you can get to make a regular model and make it look like this.
I agree with you completely, but it would also be nice for the car to have VW's DSG duel-clutch automatic as an option with the 6-speed manual standard.
