This was one of the most important videos you've done. It combats years of propaganda against the milk industry. Thanks!
I was thinking that the hole time
Carlos Robins Thanks Carlos 😀
Too much work there big Tom , soaking wiping spraying on those teats , easy does it mate 👍🏻
You only seen the front. There is a lot behind you are scared to see.
@@moulikumar2444 nope he just as good to the animals in front of the camera as he is off the camera just like the rest of us we were out in a torrential rainstorm with high winds checking cows and fences while you were in the house complaining about farmers
This should be shown to school children so as to bring home where milk comes from and all the hard work that goes into your pint of milk
Well schools in Australia are taking people to new ones
My daughter's friend at the age of 14 didn't know that milk came from cows
hopefully they realise its gross and take up the alternatives instead
hoah how is this gross? Lmao snowflake
How I ever found my way here is beyond me ... but, I'm here to stay! I love how KIND you are to your charges, and the automated Tom System is a winner! May you and your family continue to be blessed!!!
Love the attitude of these cows, the first one in skipping and bucking is so cute, happy playful cows.
yes its arerry good cow
You do a fine job of seeing to your animals
With respect and kindness. Thank you
Your cows even look like they are happy to go and get milked, a happy herd👍
Haha love the beginning when the cows run behind you
Your a natural mate! It's a poacher to watch a good stock man at work. They are well look after animals!!! Give ya self a pat on the back😉😉
Steven Wright hopefully not a cow pat😂🤢🐮💩
You a legend Tom for making a video of you milking the herd plus as well explaining how you manage your herd on a day to day basis plus doing it start of your long working day for you and your dad. Legends you and your dad are 🐄👏👍
Might not be the largest parlour in the world but it’s cleaner than most
haha you haven't seen our parlour yet
I love your parlor. There is a wholesome feeling about it, not at all like those cold, everything is automated places. I said it before, your cows are the happiest cows I’ve ever seen. Thanks Tom.
I found you through The Hoof GP. During this COVID 19 stay at home order I’m finding this all fascinating! I’m basically a city slicker from Orlando, Florida area🌴☀️. Can’t wait to learn more!
Incredible video, important that some people these days see how farmers really treat their cattle and it seems your cattle are living their best life. Well done!!🐄👍
Thanks for a clear well explained video. Brings back loads of memories for me. I had to stop farming due to health issues, but that was me for my first 15 and a bit years of working. The main difference I had a radio on when milking, allowed me to keep up on the news & tunes of the day, plus I'm sure the cows liked the music, haha. I totally agree with the 1st cuppa of the day ritual. Keep up your great videos.
That took me back to when as a kid I used to stay with a family who ran Friesians. The comforting sound of the milking parlour, the animals knew in which order they ought to come in or else! Fantastic to see, and real milk for breakfast
Great, Great, Great, video. Thanks for sharing. I am a framers daughter, I always enjoyed miking myself. Have never lost the love of farming. Really miss it.
Great video Tom! Love it! Hard to believe it's been 10 months since we were there
Stoney Ridge Farmer It’s mental!! Time has flown by!
I love farm animals and one day I will milk some cows
Oh my goodness, that foaming warm milk in your coffee -- I'm positively drooling!
Nooce Miller It’s the best!!
it's the best! Because it doesn't chill your beverage when it's fresh ;)
Ur not a baby cow, reality check
@@hio2220 Go drink your almond milk and shut up, the environment cries on your behalf.
@@DanishButterCookie right... if u look at the facts tho.... nm
OMG you need a medal. From now on I will call 7am an extremely long lye in. The great thing was you were still smiling !! Dedication and care. Btw that coffee looked amazing. 🌿👍🌞🌿
Love the video. Also explaining why you had to chain the one cow legs together was amazing to see as it was informing you followers who don't farm on the reason why. And a happy health herd who can't wait for the morning milk
Same fullwood parlour my father put had in 1968 started 5 aside swing over then extended to 6 aside swing over then went to 12 jars and cluster removers but didn't speed up milking that much as 12 units to wash and 12 jetters to put on.we welded plate on the back of those front gates with the tin bracket that used to wear and let the gate over centre and let the cows away with the units still on.we put dairy off in 1998 sold parlour to a farmer and it is still going
Really enjoying your channel - so informative. I love hearing about farming/ranching life, equipment, problems, solutions, etc.
Love the farmer's cappuccino never thought of that before think I'll have one in the morning (knowing my luck I'll pick one with mastitis :( )
will Moore 😂
Been there done that😂
🤣🤣🤣
Pity the cows dont make cappa, as well as milk,
mole meister if every udder was a different flavour haha how good would that be
We always feed grain depending on how much milk they gave when they came in the barn for milking. We never had a parlor so feed before they came in and had it ready for them. Winter time they stayed in the barn but they always looked forward to getting their grain and milked. It was almost like they looked forward to seeing us. We also grew up on raw milk and it was the best.
I was in Norway for half a year doing this exact same thing! Not an easy job, but very rewarding!! You trully conhect with the cows doing this every day.
Loving the videos! My dad and I watch them together, you met my dad and was talking about buildings and I said to him I’m proud of him - he met a TH-camr before me 😂
Great video, very informative. One of my favourite videos & it's great to see the cows happy with the process. Thanks Tom
I miss this life. This was like a walk down memory lane!
Yes, I know that feeling too! A long time ago but seems like yesterday when seeing these videos.
This was a great vlog! Me too your channel & I love it so far 😊 I love your parlor & ABSOLUTELY adore how quaint it is, warms my heart. I feel like too much technology can cause kinks in the system, when you’re actually working your farm, you know exactly what is going on! Well done 🤙
Hi Tom.Polish fellow watching you in Norway in Oslo I love your Irish acccent because I lived in Dublin 9 years. I am going to give you subscription.
Thanks for this video, Tom. You are a natural, and your cows are so sleek and healthy. I love them as much as if they were mine. Those beautiful faces and eyes, and their natural curiosity.
I just wished you dairy farmers got more per pint of milk you put so much work on for very little in return. And as always another smashing video Tom #learnsomthingneweveryvideo
Unfortunately the vast majority of consumers would agree with increasing the amount farmers get paid for there produce, but then those same consumers well purchase produce without a thought for how little farms get for their produce.
There's a reason why there aren't any Butchers , Bakeries, Green Grocers, shops or doorstep milk deliveries any more
Supermarkets have too strong a stranglehold over farmers, driven by consumers who are more interested in lower price more than the effect of low prices on farmers.
Javeed Sultan actually we have a door stop milk delivery 🚚 where I live and covers a vast area with plastic becoming a thing of the past soon I think we will see more of it
@@hannahplumleymycarnivaladd6365 30 years ago I worked as a milkman, unfortunately year on year doorstep deliveries reduced to a point where doorstep deliveries became uneconomical.
Javeed Sultan they still do them where I live yes it’s a little more expensive a pint but it’s so worth it
@@hannahplumleymycarnivaladd6365 Glad that there is still some places doorstep deliveries are still done,
Supermarkets have really come to dominate the nations nation's shopping habits, and in some part contributed to the decline in high street shopping.
And the advent of metro stores they are pushing out the smaller convenience stores to such an extend that only shops catering for the local minorities are left.
As a consumer who wouldn't want cheaper prices, yet we rarely think of the harm producing cheap goods actually has.
Over 55 years I've seen how the retail and shopping sectors have changed.
It's funny when you tell kids that there used to be shops that only sold fruit land veg, or only sold baked goods, or only sold wines and spirits, they look at you if you were senile
But then they say this is progress, fresh produce no longer exists as retailers choose selflife over fresh
Wow Tom, that was a special video - I never realised what was involved, a real eye opener!! Credit to you indeed.
Don’t see why you would want to spend money to take out the jars if it was me ide be looking at putting in more units to speed things up instead but it’s an ok parlour especially when you have cluster removers , great video Tom
Superb Video Tom
Bring back memories that dose should have a go again one day. I’m a electrician now 😲🤙🏼👌🏼
Worked on this farm with Tom for a while, ( you can spot me in the early videos). He is a great guy and always does what is best for the Cows. Keep up the good work Tom.
P.s. it’s jay not Max 😂
Hahahah I was like... “Who is max?” 😂😊
Jay from sca face!!
I’d love to see this at some point in my life. They know exactly where yo go. Brilliant. Thankyou.
Best video! 👌 The only reason I started following you is, you are not faking anything, others after getting some fame moved to faking stuff, keep it real! Keep it simple! Keep it awesome!
Great video, explaining the process, like the beef included, taming them.
Brilliant video tom, nothing quite like working way your stock, I got the chance when I was 20 to take over a beef and sheep farm on stronsay in the Orkney islands my fiancé and I 😉 are currently running 180 ewes and 10 cows put with the shorthorn bull. We’ve got a baby on the way in may sheep lambing in March and cows calving in April -may. Best decision I made taken on the farm minus the debt but that’s something you have to get on with, I don’t many 22 year olds that’s running their own farm.i watch all your videos the ginger warrior certainly knows what he’s talking about.
Brings back some memories from way back growing up on a farm , the milking was done by hand though and I don't miss that !
Awesome video!!!
Thanks for explaining the tape on tails!
You do an awesome job!!!
Excellent 'access all areas' as usual ! That's why you and your channel are so popular.
Nice one Tommo very interesting! No jollying around here just pure graft
😊
To be honest, I have no idea how I stumbled across this channel. I’m an American city dweller whose never been involved in farm life and gags at the sound of cow plop, but this video fascinated me. Small farm milking is actually beautiful, and I never thought I’d say that! I knew it wasn’t the idyllic scene of milkmaids in wooden clogs sitting on a stool, but I saw a clip of a cold, mechanical mass production system once and I found it heartbreaking! This was straight up interesting, educational and I didn’t gag once!! I love how you talk to them and they seem genuinely comfortable to follow where you lead. Great video. Thank you!
I love your videos. They are always informative, and you have a great energy showing us your daily duties. Thanks.
Fantastic video, brought back a lot of memories for me and the early hours spent in a 6/12 parlour, best time of the day too, thank you Tom.
What do u have now
@@harrycobb819 Nothing now, retired, but farming is in your blood and I'd go straight back in to it tomorrow health permitting.
Gr8 video tom. I was waiting ages for a milking video. The greatest video u have done in my opinion. Very informative video. Love the work u r doing cant wait for more great videos to come. Looking at your channel for 2 years now. Keep up the great work 👌
Lol Oh Tom you crack me up with your morning cup of brew. There is nothing like fresh milk
I finally figured out the vibes he gives! You've got the same enthusiasm and passion as Baking with Jack, but with farming rather than bread making. I dunno if it's just me but both dudes are great
LOL you bring back memories of me trying to hand milk my grandmothers cows lol and learning to get the cats in the noodle with milk as thats how they rolled. Oh yeah i was on a 3 leg stool to do this. Grandma almost rofl at her grand kids all doing this. Oh yes loved the hand churning for making butter, thank you for bring ing smiles to me for that.
Cows are so happy like their owners ,Top class video.
Loved watching this. Reminds of all the good times on my Grandads dairy farm as a kid! Keep up the fantastic work x
Great video like your setup and cattle handling I try to make everything we do with our cows effortless my cows are called they come get grain I move them from field to field with hay wagons and we have trained all the herds to follow whatever we are in and when cows want to go it makes life easier
enjoyed watching your informational video about milking and what happens during. thank you so much
i died inside when he said quick maffs - i love this channel :) subbed !
This is the first video I have ever seen that milks exactly the way we milker when we had a raw milk dairy here in Texas. Keep up the excellent work. We also milked into jars.
That looked like the most delicious brew ever. 😄
Great video. Shows just what we don.t always realise, the way our milk gets sorted so we can have our tea/coffee and breakfast. We don,t really pay enough for it in the supermarket though.
Again a very good informative video into you’re working life and as for you’re brew the milk doesn’t get any fresher than that, thanks Tom.👍🚜🐄
What a fantastic video at least we know that milk is fresh your cup a coffee looked really nice more videos please from Wolverhampton
My mom's family is from a village near Ipswitch, I'm from the States. I visited her for the summer a long time ago when I was in high school, right after my parents divorce, and my favorite part was getting the milk off the porch, taking the brick off of it so the birds didn't poke holes in it, pouring the fresh cream in my Rice Krispies and my cup of tea. Man that was so yummy!!!! Man I miss that, My mom, ehhh who cares, but being over there with my brother and the rest of the family, I would really love to go back some day.
Great Video Tom! Thank you for sharing!!!
OMG I love the cows when they follow you lol soooo sweet another great vlog
This was great to watch Tom and thanks for sharing. Have a nice day.
I lived on a dairy farm in New Zealand for 6 months (as an au pair for one of the farm workers). Their facilities weren't as clean as these ones and I know for a fact that their cows weren't being treated with as much care as yours. Thank you for your videos, Tom
Curious cows = big smiles. Lovin it, Tom!
Oh yeah! I finally found the video that tells me what the tape is. Thanks Tom!
Very happy content looking cows Tom. So e nice full bags there too 🐄👍👍🐄
Loved that. Loved milking when I was younger. Brought it all back to me. I used auto feeder. Punch the cow number in and it auto fed. Think it was 10 a side but I could be wrong. Oh the good old days
15:26 cow - may I come in?
15:26 hooman - not yet
15:29 hooman - now come
15:30 cow - perfect
Thanks, it reminds me of how crazy busy I used to be with milking on the farm You do an amazing job!
Only decovered you today. Which is a shame. Love farm live. Grandfather was a dairy farmer, I was his side kick around the farm. Miss the life,so very happy I found your channel. 😁🐮
Great video Tom, very interesting to see how the parlor works, it must make it a very long day though with all the other daily routines to do as well. 👍👍
Great vid Tom,great animal husbandry, your hard work has clearly paid off
Your videos ALWAYS bring back great memories when I was a kid, growing up on our family Jersey dairy in South Australia.... hooked on your channel..... ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Lol funny I live in sa as well apart from we milk fresians and jersys
Nice vid Tom, my old man was a dairyman and went thru that twice a day as well with Ayrshire cattle. The farm used a Hereford bull for the heifers then had a couple of Ayrshire bulls to maintain the herd size.
Absolutely fantastic Tom that parlour is very clean I would eat my dinner off the floor. Great vid keep it up an keep on farming
you treat your cows real good. They like you cause you show them affection while milking. When I was a kid we had a Brown Swiss/Angus cross milk cow. She weighed out at 1650 lbs and gave us 6.5 gallons twice daily. She was a very kind cow, she loved her kitties and was very protective of them. Foster Bro kicked one of her kitties and made it cry and she proceeded to push him through the fence. He never did that again. We could milk her from either side and most of the time we would double up on milking her. We had her for 16yrs and sold her in milk with a bull calf at her side. We heard much later that she lived to 26 and calved every year he had her. Her last calf was a heifer calf and quietly died in the barn about a month late. We raised this cow and she started calving at about 26months. So we got 13 bull calves from her while we. had her and the next owner got 9 bull calves and 1 heifer from her. Her name was Friendly and she certainly lived up to her name. We were on a Ranch and she was on the range like all other cows not in a dairy. Out of one milking of 6.5. gallons she gave us 1 and 3/4 gallon of Cream after going through a separator. Sure made good butter.
good video was wandering about the milking on your farm ty for sharing
Full fat milk all the way. I miss the days I used to be on the farm with my grandma and grandad having readybrek with milk straight from the tank. Never been the same since.
I still remember some of my favourite cows numbers and that was 25 years or more ago.
About time someone put up a proper milking video showing vows being prepared for milking, so many people put up videos and never show the actual process. Now why do I even bother to make this comment? Because of cell count issues and how other people prepare their cows. I am glad that they are not being was with water which drives cell count to the moon unless they are actually dried with a paper town. The milking parlour is ace, well designed for current milking needs and so advanced for the 60's. If you grew up with a bucket machine in a cabin then you would understand what I mean.
I was interested in the comment of dividing the herd into highs and lows and is this done following testing for cell count or based on the duration of lactation?? I noticed the cows are so clean to begin with so hats off to that.
With a herd this size you can give this care and attention and provide a top quality product that's why family farms like this one should be protected not only for safe food but for the positive effects on the environment and local communities
Love it Tom, fantastic delivery really got your farming passion across
Thanks Tom, brought back memories of when I worked for the Milk Marketing milk recording i the early 1970s.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to you, your family and all who help you guys. My wife’s dad used love drinking the milk fresh from the cow when he was young. He said you just can’t beat fresh from the cow.
Tom if u ever think about improving the palour I would highly recommend getting auto Miller where when u lift up the machine it automatically will turn on the sucktion in the clusters and this will save u massive back problems and shoulder problems cause we have this and it is a big relief and we also have a auto machine that will take the sucktion off and will drain the tank I highly recommend it
When I was a kid we hand milk 4cows gave some to any calves that were needing it ,we drank the rest , Christy from Donegal ,I see you love your job
Great video Tom as normal, interesting and educational, keep up the good work next time I’m in the area I’ll have to stop by and say hi 👋
You are fast becoming my fav TH-camr. 😁. My grandpa had a dairy farm in hackney Ohio back in the 70’s and 80’s. He use to let me ride the cows in and pretend they were horses.. he changed my life.
I love watching your videos.. I think I need to find a farmer here in the states 🇺🇸
Great video, just one thing I don't know if you've considered in terms of mastitis control.... You dip from back to front then wipe from back to front but apply the units from. Front to back... In terms of milk let down and it taking 45 seconds for the teat to open after wiping, them first 3 cows having the units having units on straight after wiping, so no time for milk let down... Which in turn could suck the teat end while there's no milk let down which then in turn damages teat end and then make it easier for mastitis to get in. I never believed that parlour routine could be a factor in mastitis until I was shown teat end damage and that, changed the whole parlour operation and cut mastitis. That was 20 a side, dipping 5 wiping 5 then applying units to 5, then spray the 5 come off and go onto dipping spraying wiping the next 5. It did really make a difference and may be overlooked in alot of milking procedures in terms of prevention
Just saw your snap story and just the video popped up in my notifications so happy 😂
XCELENT TY FOR SHARING LOOKING FORWARD TO THE CLEAN UP OF PENS WHILE THE MILKING PROCESS IS GOING ON HAPPY NEW YEAR
It’s nice to see some older machines like yours. We just got a new boomatic machine witch is a direct line to the tank is 10 cows on each side witch we can milk all at the same time it generally takes us 45min to an hour to milk all 119 cows it’s a really great machine and is recommended
Awesome video - thanks. Only wish I could get your products here in the States. Would love to have a coffee with you!
Thanks for the in depth explanations. Answered most of my questions before I thought of them.
