Agree so much. It´s cool to be the frontline guy with the triple- and squad-kills, but some of them don´t understand the difficulty of being a solid or even good support.
And so sometimes you get trashtalked for being paint- and armor-bitch.
But some of them don´t understand that it´s a permanent play with fire, especially for short-ranged support-weapons like Jr.

Support seems easy, because you just paint the map and dont fight people. but you dont fight people, because you can't fight people. Thats why zap 85 is probably the best armor support. Its the only one that is capable of defending themselves and aggro a little under desirable circumstances.

Honestly I think that a lot of people can understand that positioning is important, the problem tends to be understanding what makes actually good positioning which I'm glad you went over heavily here.
As an example in your slayer section, I think a big reason that a lot of even X rank players play like that is because it FEELS like what you suggest would be bad positioning. If you aren't thinking about how hard it is for someone to confront you if you stand directly under ledge, people will think it's a bad play. For example, by standing back and shooting people feel like they are safe. They feel like they have ink behind them to escape with, and they can make that escape before a bad situation becomes bad. However standing directly under ledge can feel like overextending. Like you can have your exit cut off and if the situation turns bad that you're trapped in it. Showing that "Actually, it's very difficult for them to fight you in this position and you have the big advantage here" is very helpful.

One thing I do hope they do is fix the latency issue that Splatoon 2 has. In Splatoon 1 the controls felt much more responsive compared to 2. I don't know if they can completely fix the issue though because lots of other games on the switch have the same issue. I think if they released a switch that was like a traditional console, with no screen and dock it would help with the input lag.

    • @sherbertshortkake6649

If you play only TV mode then your latency may not be Splatoon's fault. Check if it is still latent in tabletop mode. It's possible you have either a slow tv or slow HDMI cord. I had this issue myself.

@@sherbertshortkake6649 "slow" HDMI cord isn't a thing for 1080p60 content output on the switch. You only need a minimum of 4.95Gbps bandwidth. Which is an HDMI rev 1.0 cable (old AF). Most "cheap" cables sold in stores and on Amazon when the Switch debuted were HDMI rev 1.4 which supports 10.2Gbps bandwidth. Plenty for a docked switch. But you do make a valid point about the TV. Almost all modern TVs add a lot of software processing to the input signal that can add significant input delay. Most modern TVs have a "game" mode, of which the primary purpose is to disable all that additional software processing. It can take input sensitivity from 110ms down to 15ms or less, depending on the brand, age, etc. If OP is playing docked on a TV, that's where I would start. It's possible that they may have an HDMI cable that's starting to fail (it's rare, but it does happen), but if that were the case, there'd likely be other symptoms to indicate as such.

Sometimes it’ll start randomly dropping audio mid stream. Same thing w/ picture. Most of the time, it’ll recover. Sometimes it won’t. Sometimes you’ll have weird stuttering or video artifacting if enough of the bandwidth has degraded. Most of the time, though, if your devices handshake, you get good picture & audio, and your source is 1080p, the HDMI cable isn’t likely to be a source of major input lag. Holding center seems to be key in winning turf wars, your side+center>their side, but it doesnt need to be perfect. Being able to get some special on your way back to mid would be great if not for these sorts of players.

Positioning and map awareness as well as just general game awareness is EXTREMELY unintuitive for me for some reason. No matter how much I strategize, when I go into a game, I forget about everything, I rely purely on instinct and reactions to get me to win the game, I have no idea what place is the most optimal for me to be in. And whenever I try to think mid-game or pull up the map to try and see the positions of my teammates and opponents, it is like my gameplay becomes so much worse. The more I try to think, the more harder it is for my brain to catch up with what is happening because things change so quickly and I end up getting sniped by a Charger or bombarded by Tenta Missiles I didn’t know existed. I literally do not know how the fuck you are supposed to be “aware” in a game that literally changes every 5 seconds. It is also extremely hard for me to find a “main” just because of how many weaknesses every single weapon has. Sure, every weapon does one thing really well, but is terrible in every other department. You cannot pick off people from afar with dapple dualies, you cannot react quickly when someone sneaks up on you with Chargers, and I need to be able to do both in order to react to various situations because whoop dee doo charging head first all alone into enemy territory is anything except for a fantastic idea. And you see, this would be perfectly fine if I didn’t care enough about this game and just forgot that it ever existed, but this is why the issue is so infuriating, I cannot forget this game because there are SO many things that I absolutely LOVE about this game BESIDES the gameplay. The worldbuilding is so creative, the music sounds fantastic while also integrating really well into the world, the entire game is charming from the writing to the animations and the style and the way that the entire package is presented, and the lore goes surprisingly deep for a game rated E for Everyone. The aesthetic, the creativeness and inventive nature of literally every aspect of this game, I cannot help but appreciate every single aspect and that honestly sucks because I can’t wrap my head around how the hell I am supposed to “get good”. I feel like I cannot show my appreciation to this game I love so much if I cannot even understand the gameplay part of this game, which is SUPPOSED to be the entire reason why people play this game. Y’know, FOR THE GAMEPLAY. Seriously, like, I can understand most of Chara’s videos, but 90% of the things he is saying in this one are going over my head

It sounds like you're talking about having bad habits. I struggle with this too. For the first couple of years of playing this game i mostly played on instinct/reaction, not thinking much about where players on either team were at any given moment. "I see enemy i shoot" sort of thing. Later on i got tired of dying from things i could have easily avoided had i been more aware. What I've been doing since then is trying to think more actively when playing. I ask myself: Where is the enemy? Where are my teammates? Do we have man advantage? Specials? Where is a good spot for my weapon to push/hold? etc. This has helped me a lot, but i still fall back into playing mindlessly sometimes. Working on it!

I don't think anyone can nor are supposed to chomp all of these info right into their brains.
My improvement went more like, after losing many times and seeing some vids on how to get good, I remember a couple main focuses like for example positioning and movement. I noticed that I tend to charge into areas with many enemy ink around me just cuz I see enemy there. Needless to say, I died easily. After noticing how important turfing is in order to make myself (and my team) more mobile and corner the enemy, I started paying more attention to how much turf both teams have and where. Merely keeping this one concept in mind made _my reflexes_ to act accordingly and save me from getting cornered & killed, since I always make sure to have an escape route and a solid turf to return to now.
Patience pays. Mindful plays pays. I remember fondly the time when I won a Rainmaker game with Sploosh Neo after surveying on Recon mode about where I can put beakons safely, and which shooting angles are advantageous or disadvantageous to me. The other aspects will be learned too eventually with more experience & time - like remembering which weapon has what sub & what special, or remembering to check map & note where everyone are. One step at a time is already great, starting from the bad habits that leads you to death multiple times.

@@jjQlLlLq I like what you said about turf control and charging into enemy turf. I used to do that a lot and get killed for it, it's not very safe unless you know where people are. For me things like movement come more intuitively from just playing the game a lot, but I'm still teaching myself to play mindfully and try to have a game plan if that makes sense. Like knowing when and where to push, supporting my teammates when they need help and in general just think more about what i'm going to do and what the enemy is doing. I agree with you that patience and strategy is very rewarding when you pulls things off!

I play both overwatch and splatoon, Overwatch taught me how to position. In splatoon few people use natural covers to protect themselves when they wanna go from point A to point B. I used to think that hiding was enough to be safe, but it's not.
Players using natural covers are much more efficient to pressure the ennemy team as they get free poke, free healing, and they can retreat safely if they need to. Playing with the environment is really important.
Also the paint on the map is not only a speed buff and stealth buff, it's a visual reminder of where you're actually safe or not. In games like Overwatch, your safe space is determinated with your tank positioning, if your too far in front of your tank, you're in a great danger, if you're too far away and you don't even see the tank anymore, you're useless. It's the same in Splatoon
As a slayer player you have to position yourself in front of your team, you actually need to be in the range of your support, because he is giving you a safe space and a reminder of where your territory actually stops, so you will not overextend.
As a support player, you need to be in the back of your frontline so you can have a clear view of what is going on and not actually being an isolated target.
As a backline player, you need to have your whole team within your range and have a margin to actually pressure the ennemy midline. Some chargers just camp a single high ground and don't move at all while they should reposition themselves to keep an eye on the action, help the support to paint and pressure the ennemy team.
Also make sure to have a natural cover you can easilly reach if people shoot at you for protection whatever you're playing. The less you die, the more damage you deal, the more special you cast, and the more games you win

This info is gold. People learn this the hard way, but competitive players already knows all of this info.
I am kind of a core player, but really a bad one (low X rank). I am a Vsploosh main, and I am ashamed to say that instead of a slayer, I tend to be more of a slayer/support hybrid. When I see a friendly charger or splatling, I tend to ink their feets so they can move faster. I try to ambush but if I fail, I run away to the safety of my teammates. When I get splatted, I see the map and I noticed I overextended, because I still don't have the ability to read the map before pushing an offensive, and that is really a difficult thing to do.
Somehow with my bad aim and using stick controls I am on low X rank with the Vsploosh; in theory this shouldn't be possible. I think I kind of got there because I try to look for a better position for myself rather than trying to outskill the opponents; That is because I know rivals will always be better than me in skill level (aim, etc...)

I'd recommend you try an Aerospray PG sometime, especially a flanking/Special Spam build. So what if you suck at combat? Good luck tryharding your way through a Booyah Bomb, and if that doesn't get 'em, make 'em run after you or force them to give up the chase by turfing away and climbing walls faster with Burst Bombs!
If positioning is more imoortznt than skill, the Aerospray PG is also a really fast-firing gun which has high spread, requiring less aim with no mashing required. Plus, if you ambush someone by hiding until they get in point blank range, they might not realize it's not a Roller OR an Octobrush that's attacking them until they're dead already! Burst Bombs also work as a sabotage tool in ambushes - hit the ground they're on so they need to ink before they can run!
...Sorry about the rant, I just really love this Weapon!

Because If all people attack, the team is not equilibrated. And It seems like players only care get more kills and like you said, sometimes is better the teamwork and communication.

By avoiding the charger doesn’t that allow for them to get more special value?
If you all go left to avoid charger then get missiled what do you do?

    • @ProChara
      @ProChara  2 ปีที่แล้ว +22

Taking fight on the left side doesn't mean stacking on top of each other you just hold them at the choke, and if they missile + the charger over there then only 2 people are pushing in making it even easier to stop honestly. In Some situations yes it can get some value but you minimize it

Hey Chara, I have a question about TC and RM.When I play scope charger is it better to play the objective or put pressure on the other team? On RM inkblot my team pushed rainmaker on left side and I went top right. This worked out very well and won me most games but idk if that was just the map.
    Thanks.

  • @RH-cc4of

same example, you try and avoid the charger, if it’s a mode like TC or rainmaker what can you do then?
On TC the tower would move towards the charger and pushing left on rainmaker would be an easier push to shut down?

    • @123christianac
      @123christianac 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

His point wasn't "Always avoid chargers." His point was to pick your engagements. In his example, there's no reason to go over near the charger. It isn't contesting an important area, so ignoring it for the rest of its team is more ideal. The charger was in a bad position because it can't do much from there unless some approaches... which no one needed to.
Your example is different. In your case, your team would need to push ahead before the charger gets in position. If the charger is already in position, you would need to displace it using either bombs or specials. The charger is in a good position because it can stop the objective and get picks. You need to get it out of position.

I play junior in 3 modes (I'm splatling in TC because I ride tower a lot, trying to improve on jet so I can use that). I keep getting X in zones and TC, ending the month around 1980, repeat. And the number of times I, the junior, am the ONLY PERSON ALIVE--that I'm standing on drop in sturgeon, chucking bombs at the zone, waiting for my team to respawn--woops, there goes the trislosh splatted again, can we at least get THREE people unsplatted at the same time? No?
    It's incredibly frustrating.
On the plus side, I've got the bombs to disrupt down (the number of times I've topsplatted because of bombs is ridiculous). I'll have to work on active paint. But man, I wish Solo-Q teammates didn't feed all teh time.

Thanks Chara this will certainly be useful but could you make a more general "how to get good" video as I'm aiming X rank but I'm stuck in S+ which is really annoying especially since low S+ levels could suddenly meet a team of only high S+ players and still break their gage. To all people who think S+9 players shouldn't be able to be in the same lobby as S+0 players, please like.BTW,it's true positionning is useful but stuff like the support position is mainly good for league.

Oh dear god. Its the important lessons solo queue keeps screwing up. For such a team based game, making solo the only means to rank up, creates these early development bad habits that you keep mentioning. So you got a x ranker thats just a freaking potato brain that somehow made it through rng, grit and persistence. But has developed a complex of everything bad happening is the teammates fault. And it becomes a serious process to have such a player unlearn this crap. Because once they go back to rank. People very rarely play in a way thats compatible and it takes awhile for players to properly adjust to what other players do and you make intentional moves to compliment that, instead of doing play you want (which might be the more correct and optimal one) and get mad that others aren't playing ball.
You either choose the play presented to you. Or guarantee trying to make the play you want fail. What I find best is if you show a random (ideally a competent one) that you are actively playing in sync with them. They become open to suggestions. Or not... its a big hit or miss with randoms. You can only communicate so much with no VC
