Hi, so to begin with, let me just get it out of the way, I hate my sister. I literally hate her from the bottom of my heart because she is just a straight up terrible person. She is a total brat who doesn’t care about anybody but herself and the worst part of it is that she thinks she is entitled to everything that she wants. I can’t stand her and I think everybody in our family is aware of that fact. It all started when we were in high school, the first time that she hit on my prom date and he told me about it, and since we don’t have much of an age gap, I’m just one year older than her, we were always competing. And our parents never did anything to discourage that either because they had pretty much given up on us ever getting along after middle school. Right from our childhood, we did not get along.
The parents are blind to their favoritism.
A lot are. Especially when the other child is low maintenance

oh she did have feelings for Theo. simply basic compassion. she didnt want him to go into this blind and she didnt have a friendship to lose. if I were his friend I would have done it anyway.
Op really didn't see that Melissa was the favorite child even when they excused her stealing her boyfriend's. It was all about protecting and catering to her. They were crappy parents. If I were Op, I'd stay NC. I would also keep them away from any future grandkids as well.
OP would have been YTA if she didn't warn Theo. Glad he didn't simp out. OP's parents just as bad as their harlot daughter. I hope she blocks them everywhere, and lives her best life.
Oh, I think OP can expect her parents to want to reconcile and/or apologize when the time comes for her to reveal to everyone that she's pregnant.

The mother acting like Melissa hasn’t done anything wrong and that OP was just being mean and ruining the wedding for no reason, despite the fact Melissa was the one who had been a cheater and rubbish partner.. all OP did was save Theo from further pain.
Also OP didn’t expect Theo to reveal it all in front of everyone at the wedding, if she was vindictive she would have done that herself or told him right there and then before they were about to get married.
OP should have confronted her loudly at the time she caught her sister hitting on her boyfriend.
I think the parents just wanted to be rid of the sister, and that's why they turned a blind eye to her shenanigans. They're pissed now that she was exposed so they have to continue to deal with her.
How is a divorce less damaging to the parents reputation, than being left at the alter?
BRAVO 👏 You saved the guy from a bad marriage. Move on with your life. You'll be a lot happier removing toxic people in your life. It's your parents loss if they have nothing to do with you.
While I hope there is never another update to this post, I am sure most of us know there might be one. OPs sister is going to do something to try and ruin her wedding.
Make sure security stops her and parents from entering
@@BusArch42 Or better yet. Give them the wrong address. Preferably for someone else's rehearsal. (I'm not cold enough to have an actual wedding ruined.) That way when they try to crash it they upset others and hopefully get themselves arrested for their trouble.

You are most certainly not the bad guy. Your parents are just still doing what they have ALWAYS done. Even now they expect you to be subservient to your sister.
Wait till OP gets pregnant and they come crawling back. And they wont apologise. Theyll just say "let bygones be bygones" or "lets leave the past in the past" or some bs like that but i hope OP stays strong because if her parents are involved so will Melissa and she is unhinged. I do believe some people are born evil, sadly. I've seen incredible parents turn out some amazing kids and some kids are just rotten right from the start.

Never protect cheaters or the people that allow them to cheat. Would you want parents who accept cheating to have any influence over you or your children.
Parents who don't have moral values and Principles in life, then you will witness 100% disaster in that family, like their children going haywire, going immoral and losing their lives etc.
What kind of parent thinks it's okay to steal others partners, let alone stealing your own sibling's partner. OP should completely cut ties with such people, even if they are your loved ones, because they don't consider you as their loved one. Their toxicity and immoral lifestyle will only hinder in your peaceful and happy life, their presence will only affect your marriage and children in the future. Do you really need such people in life, which could destroy your own lives.
I like that OP didn't talk about the rumours, as it would led to her downfall, not the nasty creepy sisters'.
The parents are mad about their favoritism being exposed. Ops sister was always the favorite. It's funny how they still defend her rotten behavior. At first, I thought they just cared about their image. Which could still be the case with how the mom attacked op.
It's really sad sometimes. I question if the dad feels this way or if the mom told him lies. Because op has said their parents would defend her. But all through these updates, it sounds more like her mom decides things.
There has been cheating on the parents side.
Okay Op needs to cut off her parents completely and not be concerned about having any contact with them. If they come to any event like an engagement party or wedding, they will attempt to sabotage it on behalf of golden sister. For Op's health ans well being it's best to write them off. I'll bet golden child sister was an affair baby which is why the mother is so tolerant of cheaters.

Everyone's saying the parents will come back when she starts having children. I think she will hear from them again before that. Most of the time I believe when people keep siding with the friend or family member that is in the wrong even when being dragged and losing so many social connections it's less to do with pride and more to do with the sunk cost fallacy. The Sunk Cost Fallacy, for those who don't know, is when you keep investing something (time, money, material, etc) into something expecting some kind of return but get nothing back and yet keep investing in spite of losses because you've come too far to back off now and you believe something will come of it. I really think for most its the cost they've already paid and the potential horror, guilt, and sorrow of facing the fact that all of it was for nothing that keeps them doubling down no matter how much they lose. By the end the parents are ostracized and everyone can see the truth. They only have the one daughter now and nothing else to show for their effort.

(Before updates) Absolutely NTA. Your mother is in denial. She sees how much she and your father (and others) have spent on the wedding etc. and for this to happen in front of so many people, family etc. is a major embarrassment to her. It declares to all that she has raised an immoral daughter. She cannot see the wider picture that Theo is a good man and does not deserve to enter blindly into the nightmare of a marriage which he would be doing, had he not been tipped off to the true nature of his soon to be wife. Your mother wants to say that you are as bad as your feckless sister, though you have not been a faithless girlfriend and fiancee. On the contrary. When she has calmed down, she should see that you did the right thing and it would have been much more embarrassing in front of relatives, and very much more agonising for poor Theo if he had married her and had to go through the trauma of discovering her infidelities and divorce, when there might have been children involved then. It is possible your mother knew how awful and unmarriageable your sister is and just wanted to marry her off so she could become someone else's problem for a while and 'get rid of her' for a bit. That would be massively unfair to Theo, but perhaps your mother does not care about him, only herself.

This girl is just a doormat you could have cut off contact with these people long time ago you allowed yourself to continue to be mistreated by your mother your sister and ignored by your father.
And now you're up here looking for sympathy and honestly I don't have anything for you y'all may have sympathy for her but I don't because people that like drama loves those type of situations they throw themselves in those type of situations to get validation.
Her sister is crappy but they allowed the sister to continue to do stuff like that and it didn't become an issue with Opie until it was this specific boyfriend cuz she did it with the other ones but she didn't say nothing about those but this one was the show that broke the camelbak.
The parents and Opie was enabling her behavior and now that it backfired now she's up here whining.
And not only just that she waited until the situation happened with her boyfriend to tell this man would she knew already her sister was a trifling person but you waited because of the fact that and you're a small mind nothing was as important at that moment until she came on to this specific boyfriend.

Op didn't do it all out of the goodness of her heart, she even said she was disappointed she didn't get her revenge at first. So while Melissa is nasty, op was spiteful but not the ah.
