Tomb Raider 3 - Quad Bike Shenanigans

- Without any cheats or mod tools, I finally succeeded in managing to get the quad bike out of the race track in Tomb Raider 3 recently. I did however, use the method of renaming the data file HOUSE.TR2 to ANTARC.TR2, to allow for saving & loading. This is also why snow is present; the weather effects must be tied to the script/exe file, not that I'm an expert in that field though.
It was very tedious and time consuming, due to the erratic/random nature of the quad. After many unsuccessful, but close attempts, I almost gave up, but I was so determined to land on that damn stone block! Croft manor intro by TRJTA.
With the ability to now save in the manor (by renaming HOUSE.TR2 to ANTARC.TR2), I realised that the game does not recognise Winston's presence/positioning whatsoever after reloading a save. He is nowhere to be found, unless you re-trigger him using the square outside Lara's bedroom.
To actually see him appear in his usual position, I throw a flare onto the trigger square, & made my way to the downstairs spawning location & performed a crawl corner bug to embed Lara in the wall. Winston instantly appears due to the presence of the flare upstairs. These actions can be exploited in various ways in the main game, and over the years speedrunners and bug enthusiasts have found many interesting ways of using tricks like this to their advantage.

When i was a kid me and my dad spent hours trying to land that quad on that block. We never did get it and was doubting that it was even possible after a long time. Great to finally see what it looks like.

When I first saw Winston in the game I screamed and dropped the controller. As a kid it was so scary. Now many years later the nostalgy hits hard and it feels so good to have these memories. Man I love this game.

After 19 years of Tomb Raider 2, just playing the game a few times in 2001, and now again a few times in 2021, well, I did the corner Bug and jumped up on top of the Roof., and then jumped running on top of Wall, and on top of the Garden Maze, ha-ha! No machine, or Pc tricks, just jump and Shift key simultaneously on the Pc. Take Care [We need more games like Tr 1 through 5, ha-ha!]

The greatest thing is that they somehow programmed the quad collisions with elements that that quad should never meet (for example the targets you should shoot at). Same with the snow: it doesn't snow inside, it doesn't snow under the "foliage bridge" where you get the guns... great engine!
There is line you can put in the script file to make it "snow all outside."
The mansion is considered inside, so is that 'under the bridge' area (where she picks up her gun), it's considered inside.
Must be another room or something like that, that they checked as
'No horizon, no outside'.
And since he changed the title names but the snow remained, it has to do with some programing knowing that with the code 'antartica', it snows all outside.
Maybe this doesnt make sense, but I am trying to make sense of the rules with what I know of the Tomb Editor.

I used to have a cartridge called the Xplorer FX (not to be confused with the Xploder) that went straight into the back of your PS1, it had a cheat on it called spider Lara which meant you could climb any wall, then a quad in house cheat which placed the quad directly on top of the quad tracks walls, all you had to do was drive it off the correct side and not back onto the course (duh) and you had hours of manor madness.
As a side note you could also get your full weapons arsenal in the house, sorry Winston lol

The quad out comes from the training track.

Getting the quad out from the racetrack is not a glitch, it's just a precise jump that is required.

Oh my god that's difficult a precise jump you have to jump 100,000 times?
It took me multiple attempts, but definitely not anywhere close to 100,000 times. I had the ability to load the game after every failed attempt, and this helped hugely.

If you observe around the 1:04 mark, you'll see that I did a jump in order to get the ATV (quad) out of the racetrack.

By "memory card" I'm assuming you mean save data for the PS1 version? Well, by default, you cannot save positioning data within the home level on PlayStation. This video shows the game running on PC, in which you can use mod tools to place the quad bike where you like, or do the jump yourself like I did. You can save in the home on PC if you rename level files to trick the game into thinking you're playing the main game. If you want save game data for the home on PlayStation, then you're probably going to need to experiment with a PlayStation emulator and/or use some kind of gameshark code to enable quad bike positioning data, as seen here: th-cam.com/video/NxEv3_fS8F4/w-d-xo.html

doubt:
1) Which version of Tomb do I need to download?
2) What tool would it be and how to use it to use the bike without leaving the jump on the ramp?
Either:
1. Purchase Tomb Raider 3 on Steam.
2. Find a download somewhere online (at your own risk).
3. Install the game from the PC version disk, then patch it with the Tomb Raider Multipatch tool.
You must be able to play the game without the disc in the drive, meaning all game files must be on your hard drive. If you buy the Steam version then you'll be ready to go without any patches needed.
Once the game is installed and it runs correctly, find the "data" folder and look for the files named "HOUSE" and "QUADCHAS". Make copies of these two files and place them somewhere else for backup. Go back to the data folder and rename "QUADCHAS" to anything you wish. Now rename the "HOUSE" file to QUADCHAS
Download this savegame file - www.sendspace.com/file/234adp and place it in the main game folder. Now start the game and load the save from the passport (it will be called River Ganges). The game should load with Lara in her bedroom on the quad bike!

How did you get the quat on the roof?
This can't be done during gameplay, so the level data needs to be modified. I did not do this modification, someone else did and then provided the saves.
@@IronFistLaw75 oh ok...so maybe this dude modified the racetrack too, so that you could make a jump that was not possible in the original game 😉
Lol, not sure if you're joking, but no, I used the original house data (with no modifications) to make the jump. Then shortly after, I found saves online containing the quad on the roof. Using these saves does not modify anything; I was still using the original house data. 😎

Are you referring to the quad bike being on the roof? If so, I believe I used a modified savegame I found online which had the quad placed on the roof. This can be done with mod tools such as TRItem.

i still remember how to do the trick to getting on top of laras house. it can be done at the spot where you use the zipline.
There are multiple ways to get on the roof by the use of glitches. The one you speak of at the zipline requires a corner bug which places Lara higher than it did in TR2. From there, you can jump to a flat section of the roof. Other ways include crawl corner bugs, step bugs and the QWOP.

Can this be done on ps1
As far as I remember, I've only seen the jump to the stone block occur on the PC version. It should also be possible on PS1, however you cannot save in order to keep reloading after failed attempts on PS1, which may become tedious having to constantly get into position again (playing the PS1 version via an emulator should allow you to quick-save your position though). You usually cannot save in the house on PC, but because I used a data file renaming trick, I was able to trick the game into allowing me to save.
If you're not successful with the jump, you can also use various cheat/hack methods on both PC and PS1; there are videos from user MattJ155 who used GameShark cheat codes for PS1 to achieve getting the quad outside of the track. On PC, you can use mod tools such as TRItem.
According to Stella's site (tombraiders.net/stella/walks/TR3walk/details/quadbike.html) it mentions that it's only possible to do the jump on PS1, which is obviously false, as there are multiple videos (including mine) of showing the jump on PC, and none for PS1 as far as I know. The site also includes GameShark codes for the PS1 version.

I tried doing the same thing about 30 times in till I gave up on the normal PS2, I nearly just nearly got that quad bike on that exit entrance area I thought it wasn't possible but after watching this I'm going to SO try that again, might get lucky.
