One of the classics! Thanks for posting it so we can see Jack Webb work his magic. I listen to the radio shows a lot but you can not find many of the TV shows. Thanks!

The guy playing Tanner appeared a lot in the 1960's version of Dragnet in which Jack Web is partnered with Harry Morgan.

what a classic and compelling show. I listen to the radio shows on iheart rather than news and talk radio. It is so much better entertainment than the trash out today. Of course there has always been trash on t.v. but it's nice to find something worth watching.. Btw I don't mean egghead t.v. Just not springer or housewives or bachelor type. What's my line another classic and F troop a comedy you can't do today. corner gas kim's convenience all good.

Don't ever tell me the death penalty doesn't deter crime. Once executed the murder doesn't continue his murderous ways.

I found this interesting, two counts of murder, no gun used. If someone wants to kill, they will by any means possible.

Less than 4 minutes of commercials. The last time I tried to watch a tv show, there was nearly 12 minutes of commercials. And now yt Interrupts with 2 ads every 4 minutes. And now just started showing 4 at the end.

I never heard of Fatima. An ex-smoker, I’ve tried all the old classics. Chesterfield, Camel, Lucky Strike, English Ovals, Players, Nat Sherman and many others. Glad I quit but I have to admit, there was no enjoyment like it.

@@mercoid I got lucky that in a family of alcoholics and smokers I’ve turned out to be a teetotaler. I spend too much on my firearms collection and burn through a patently obscene amount of ammo, so I guess we all have our weaknesses.
What I love most is just confidence and nonchalance of the advertising of deadly compounds.

@@mercoidFatima was made at the time by the same people who made Chesterfield, which sponsored the later Dragnet radio shows.

The Lethal Gas Chamber at San Quentin is now closed. If Dragnet were to be revived Today, the suspect who was sentenced to death gets transferred to another state for execution.

You have to consider the time. This episode aired in 1952 and this happened years before that. Different standards. Then the question - is he really a criminal or insane? When I was in college Hinkley had shot President Regan just a few years before. Criminal or insane? They said he was insane (Not guilty by reason of insanity). While that seemed stupid at the time so far he hasn't been killing people after they let him out of the asylum. I have a feeling he's very closely watched.
They say criminals are criminals. They can no more change than a leopard can change its spots. Insane people there's hope to change them. Cops will tell you that they see the same people over and over again doing the same things over and over again. Even if they get caught every time.
Today how would they assess him? Who knows. Probably insane. I think Los Angeles was better off with him executed.

The definition for legal insanity is very specific to whether the individual was capable of understanding their action and if it was right or wrong at the time of the commission of the actions or whether they are mentally capable of aiding and assisting in their legal defense, not whether their "crazy" as most would view them. Hence, Charles Manson was legally sane even if he was a looney.
