I take it to the next level - Evans hydraulics as resos.

There ya go! That would be an interesting combo. I'll never forget the first time I tried an hydraulic. Probably back in the 80s? It was like throwing a blanket over the drum. I think they've changed a lot. I know the pinstripes have. I have some old heads that are completely different from new ones.

@@karlplaysdrums i wish remo would make vintage pinstripes like they do with emperors and ambassadors

Why you have 2 mics in the bass drum and not one inside and one half metre outside the reso head?? 2 mics inside didn't provide a different setting or changing of the sound.also the choice of emperors on reso isn't something strange all actions have their explanations as and the choice of fiberskin reso at bass drum or powerstroke 2 too, i think the point is to eliminate the overtones or to decrease them alot right? That Works!

Good questions. I always thought that multiple microphones on single drums was lame. Really? 2 mics on one drum? Then I made my own studio, was able to learn why sound engineers do that. My first configuration on the bass drum was a b52 just inside the port hole. It sounded really good. I tried different positions, deep micing, micing the batter head from the back side, micing the front head from the outside. I had extra mics, so I tried the traditional arrangement, which you mentioned, one inside, one outside. Again, it sounded good, not great. That was when I tried both mics inside the drum. You may notice that the b52 is pointing toward the center of the drum. That worked really well in this case, allowing the mic to pick up both heads equally. I'll do a video this weekend on the different sounds I got, and I'll post a link here. The moral of this story is there are no hard and fast rules, and we need to be able to get creative. It also illustrates how important mic placement is. No two rooms are alike, no two drums are alike. Thanks for the comment!

@@karlplaysdrums Thanks for great feedback sir Karl all these you said are fully understandable.I personally when i have my kit sounding like acoustic i install the only one mic a Tbone CD1200 in a DIY square stand holded in the center of my bass drum with straps almost a similar setup like Kelly Shu System but wooden. This setup unexpectedly has amazing sound and helps a lot to live gigs cause the mic is at the same position always. Now i transformed my kit to Electronic with self builded diy dual triggers on every shell except bass drum. You researching to find the best results from your drums with the same mics in the same place with these exactly characteristics of spaces. Also with any difference in drum shells from the wood option and with any difference at kinds of mics the results will be changed dramatically i think cause of the differences in diaphragms and polarity so with this little small comment you can easily understand that the ways to have a sound that satisfies your ears are depended to many sequences and are almost endless and this place is small enough for analysis so continue the researching but i as a drummer only not a producer think that the less is more so as much as you searching maybe the way is in front of your eyes but you can't see it!! Take care sir Karl have a nice weekend and wish great recordings!!!
