I’m so glad they liked it! 🎉🥥 🐿
I love their little tentative first bites, then the pull back when they get that fresh, crisp taste… followed by the moment of careful consideration before going back in all keen for more 😂
Your little tribe are all such lovely little characters & you’ve done a fantastic job winning so many of them over. As always, thank you for sharing them with us all!

Awww, thanks. I guess kindness begets kindness begets kindness, as it should be 😂
But seriously, I just love squirrels & seeing someone who’s clearly got a gift for charming them & takes such good care is so heartwarming I think it deserves recognition 👍🏻
Keep up the good work & thank you once again for the window into your squirrelly world!

One of my favorite memories is going into a park with a large bag of peanuts in shell, there where there was a large population of squirrels. As I started tossing a peanut at any squirrel I saw, I rapidly gained the attention of at least two dozen of them each of whom approached close enough to get a peanut tossed to them. As they finished their peanut, they would of course hungrily scamper, looking at me, hoping for another. Of course I would toss them one. Some of them got sufficiently comfortable to get quite close in their petition for another peanut, and then they would scurry back a bit to eat it. One in particular however after a few peanuts appeared to have little fear of me at that point, as he sat down right between my legs while eating his peanut. What cements the memory in my mind was when he finished that peanut and wanted another, he stood up between my legs and reached up with his little arms imploring me for yet another. I put the peanut in his hands and he sat down again to continue eating.
Squirrels are almost as cute as kittens to me.

@@anngerschwitz4132 Honestly, if there were squirrels in Australia, I'd expect them to be bloodthirsty and/or venomous like everything else down there. X'D But yeah, they're awesome. A couple years ago we had a regular. I'd go outside to have a smoke with a pocket full of peanuts for the little dudes and this fuzzy little guy would climb up my duster to dig a peanut out of my pocket. He even chilled on my head and shoulders a couple times.

This video brought up some incredible memories about a couple of fluffy friends from way back.
I was on a fishing trip with my buddy and his dad way up in northern Canada. First day, I saw this guy feeding peanuts to a couple of chipmunks. He noticed my interest, called me over, and allowed me to feed the little guys. As he was leaving the next day, he put me “in charge”, and for the next seven days, if I wasn’t on the boat or in my cabin, my little dude, and for the most part is sister, were never more then 3-6 feet from me. Every morning, when I walked out my door, I could either see, or hear them, in less then 5 seconds, racing towards me, sort of bouncing and running and chirping away, and we’d play for awhile, and then it was eating time. We had competitions to see how many peanuts he could fit into his mouth at once, 2.5 being the record. The physical and mental gymnastics he would do to fit just ONE more peanut into his mouth, as you could see his little brain utilizing Chipmunk Theoretical and Linear Particle Physics adaptations to implement the perfect angle of placement. And Dear God, with a full mouth, his hilariously unnaturally gigantic head was a sight to see on his tiny little body, running as fast as his little legs would allow, disappearing to his TOP SECRET CHIP CAVE, where he would bury all of his food(Funfact; Chipmunks never recover the majority of the food they bury). Later in the week, he showed me the CHIP CAVE(yea, it was a hole in the ground by a big tree,15 feet from where we usually played.... can you say anti climactic ). People always ask, with some noted skepticism, whether I could pick him up, and the answer was yes and no. Intuition alone precluded me from “grabbing” him, alas I would simply lay my hand out open palmed, and he would immediately hop on, and spend the majority of his time hanging out on my shoulders.
I can recall next to nothing about the fish we caught, yet my recollection today of that week, hanging out with that precious fur ball, is as crystal clear as it was when I experienced it as an 11 year old kid. Apologies for the thesis long response/comment.

That first squirrel reminds me of my late hamster Pinky, she HATED new things so sometimes when I would try to introduce her to new toys or treats she would just squint at them like she just smelled a fart, grab them, then chuck them over her shoulder. It was usually only after her sister Brain (Yes I am a nerd) tried them that she would become interested

Many years ago I lived in a trailer in the woods, the rear of the camper curved over my bed, with a louvered window. Every morning at the break of dawn a squirrel would jump on that window, stick his head in and chatter loudly! Before taking off. This went on all Spring and Summer, but one day he got interested in a girl, and stopped coming by to say hello. It was more like, “ Get up you lazy human!”.

My pet squirrel that I grew up with named Frisky loved EVERYTHING I ever fed her. She loved fried chicken, fish, mashed potatoes , you name it! Her diet was 95% healthy nuts, veggies and fruits but I let her choose her meals often. Whatever I was having she was welcome to and would often climb up my arm or onto the table to take a bite of whatever I was having. And of course, would then stick her face into my tea to wash it down leaving a face full of food shrapnel floating on top. And then with a quick hand shake and head face brush to clean her whiskers she'd splatter me with my own tea.
And THEN to make matters worse, or better, she'd climb onto my arm, lay down low and wipe her face back and forth on my sleeve to tidy herself up, leaving a long undulating skid mark of tea, salad dressing and maybe some pecan crumbs.
Squirrels are very clean animals and festidiously preen and primp their fur and whiskers. Yep, Squirrels are very clean...their humans, surroundings and bedding, not so much. They're lovable little boogers too!

I lived with a couple of roommates and we had a little patio with our ground floor unit.
There were always squirrels around, so I'd feed them.
I went to a restaurant food supply place and bought a 5 pound bag of chopped peanuts (like the ones you get on an Ice Cream sundae or a banana split).
The squirrels also got dried organic corn on the cob pieces.
They loved it. I have several pictures of them coming up and grabbing the cob pieces and running off, then coming back for more.
Sometimes I'd just hand strip the corn FROM the cob and make it easy for them.

What an interesting experiment! You know just how to tempt them. Once they actually tried the coconut, they seemed to love it. I’m not sure if I should try it with my squad. I’ve got a lot of young ones now, and everyone seems voracious. I put out a whole lot of nut pieces, in my six feeding spots - turn my back for a couple of minutes - and all the nuts are gone! I increased the number of feeding spots, and spread them around, a few years ago so that everyone gets a chance. They’ll get close, but I haven’t tried hand-feeding. Your squirrels all have such different personalities!

Isn't it wonderful. A little interaction one day, can lead to happy research and even greater enjoyment.
I have wild peacocks and hens visit me every day, which before I moved to my current flat, I knew very little about them. Now I know the foods they should have and like; although my visitors are fussy, different sounds they make, which is more varied than any research I've read, and what they mean, and all sorts of things.
It's been a wonderful pleasure and enjoyment.

You are so kind ! Here in Cape Town we have squirrels in our garden and among lots of other things we have found that they really like avocado and butternut / pumpkin pips .💕🐈‍⬛🐿🐿🐿🐿

Thanks for that suggestion! We raised 2 babies during Covid and they ate such a varied diet inside with us- I'll have to try these additions outside (where we have MANY squirrels every day)

Considering that coconut comes from a continent away, l think the squirrels' acceptance of the strange, new food was a great example of their adaptability.

I hide bits of coconut around the garden in the winter for the squirrels to find. They love eating coconut, but if they're not fast enough the birds wil find it (specifically magpies) as they love eating it as well.

When I was little my Mom had a squirrel 🐿️ living in our yard and when ever he wanted a treat he would come to the front door and bang the screen door with his bottom to get her attention.😁
