Wink is awesome. Not just one of the best game show hosts ever, but a truly nice person. When I was a teenager, I was at CBS Television City in the audience of "Gambit." They were taping five shows, and I sat through four, but left before the fifth so I could go downstairs to the artists' entrance to get autographs of the cast of "All in the Family," which was also taping there that evening. I got the autographs, then waited for Wink to come out so I could get his, as well. When Wink came out, he asked if I had been in the Gambit audience, and I told him I saw all but the last show. He proceeded to take the time to fill me in on what happened during the last show. Little did I know that our paths would cross again. In 1985, my then-wife and I were contestants on Wink's show, "Headline Chasers" and, in 1999, Wink and his lovely wife Sandy were nice enough to be guests on a radio show I co-hosted at the time on KRLA/1110 in Los Angeles. Nice people, and Wink's success is well deserved.
Wow! These are both great stories that really paint the picture of what things were like at CBS Television City! Do you have your Headline Chasers episode? Would love to post it here on the Hosts at Home TH-cam channel (and give you credit of course)!
@@hostsathome7390 Sorry, I thought I had replied to this. The Headline Chasers episode is on my TH-cam channel, along with some other game show appearances.

I am a TH-camr who focuses on recreating gameshows of the past present and future. Wink has always been a role model that has heavily influenced my hosting style. I really appreciate this wonderful interview Adam. Thanks as always and I look forward to more.
First off, welcome back, Adam!! So good to hear from you again. There were so many things I could write comments about, but I'll leave it to just a couple: * Debt absolutely deserves a reboot. That show had the best tagline of any game show I can think of ("Go home with nothing!") and was just a joy to watch as a viewer. * Wink pressed a button to return the dice to the contestants in High Rollers?? That was very high tech for the late 80s. Heck, to this day, The Price is Right still has some games that are done by having stage hands crank things (e.g. Range Game & Squeeze Play.) Good call asking about that! * Apologies if I missed something obvious, but how do we lowly commenters submit questions for future interviews you might do? :) Thanks again for doing this interview and uploading it for us to enjoy!
89 years old, and still has that golden voice! Of course Visa, MasterCard or whoever sued those behind the game show, “Debt“; customers/consumers paying off their debts is a nightmare for those companies. I also heard somewhere that they were sued by those involved with “Jeopardy!“.
Great video, Adam! I seem to recall you saying on Instagram that more of your interview with Wink will be broadcast on "Nashville Insider" - is that correct? When will that be broadcast? How does one watch "Nashville Insider" (which doesn't seem to be on any TV station in my area)? Looking forward to Bob Goen!
And yes I did know he hosted the nick-at-nite's Dead Giveaway! In fact I own Closing Logo Group Megamix Volume #8 on DVD and it has clips of him hosting it!
And I still wonder if Wink could work with Wheel's current announcer, Jim Thornton (who I feel deserves an interview himself) on any projects. Maybe a Headline Chasers game night at Ilene Graff's place?
I wonder why they the network passed on Top Secret? I mean the board game got released (and pulled quickly) which makes me think it was given the go-ahead but pulled late.
My favorite Wink Martindale game shows were Tic Tac Dough High Rollers the great getaway game Trivial Pursuit Boggle Jumble Shuffle and Debt game show.
In addition to being a game show host and a producer, he was also the mentor of every other young and unfamiliar stars, who were also game show hosts, esp. Pat Finn, who came from San Francisco, auditioned for "Wheel of Fortune," when instead, got "The Joker's Wild," a year later and a young J.D. Roth, who crawled out of his teenaged years, got his start on "Fun House", after being a Martindale fan, for years. I asked his wife (Sandra) on Facebook about him, and both Sandra and Wink knew J.D. was very green when he started, but grew up to become a producer (of reality television shows).
@@Wheeloffortunefan999 JD, being a college student in those days, had auditioned for "Fun House" --- got the job, and he was blessed! He was a newcomer in those days, later, became a household word, within a year. Please, that's all I've got to say!
Up in Canada he mentored Wayne Cox who hosted 2nd Honeymoon (which Wink produced), Acting Crazy and Talk About. Wink not only a legendary Emcee and Producer, but a great teacher too. 😁
@@hostsathome7390 I just did, already. I've seen it too many times. In fact, what JD said to me, when I asked him a question, about working with his mentor and fan was: "Love Wink! And personally, a great human!"
Adam, playing the pc version of High Rollers helped me with math! Thanks to it. Addition is easy to me. I still suck at math! But can add and subtract! And multiply and divide!

Thanks so much for watching. Good luck with everything you do!
He's blessed @ 89.
He's 89? Wow! He's aged amazingly well. 😯
Legend is often a go-to word, but Wink Martindale is definitely a legend in broadcasting.
I couldn't agree more!
I really do relive the days of watching of Wink's game shows on USA Network and The Family Channel in the 90s and now on TH-cam.
Love Wink!! Grew up watching him. Truly one of the GOAT's!!

Elvis couldn't have seen Wink host TTD, as he died a year before WInk started hosting Tic.

Elvis died in 1977. TTD premiered in 1978.

Can't wait for that Bob Goen interview, plus too bad Bob Barker's retired.
Wink stated in his autobiography that a colorful Avis Rent a Car ad with all 50 states in American Airlines in-flight magazine influenced him.
Wink tell Sandy hello
You should try Top Secret again Wink!
Wink said Congratulations similar to the way he said Contestants on the Top Secret pilot
@22:10, why are there TV monitors on the players podiums on TTD?
wink and sandy been married for 49 years
Betcha he and the late Rod Roddy had a contest to see who could collect the most colorful jackets!
It was actually in the sprong of 51. That is what Wink stated in his autobiography.

Oh I missed it
Pat Robertson and co. Had the idea for The Game Channel the same time GSN was conceived
