    You've got to admit, Jay Wolpert always was thinking outdide the box when creating game shows.

    OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!! I literally screamed in my car when I saw this! I’ve been wanting to see the full pilot of this for ages since I saw the snippet on Robert Hanley’s page. I’m a big fan of Jay Wolpert-he is a genius. Wink and co., you’ve outdone yourself and thank you bunches for these surprises!!!

    I love the end game, where two players playing on the same board with secret knowledge. The front game was great, too - a really clever twist on general knowledge, and good writing for some clever questions.
    But the structure probably killed it. Production choosing a player to go straight to the end game was almost for certain going to get nixed by S&P.

    • @TheRichFather
      @TheRichFather 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Maybe that's so at the time this was produced, but shows like The Mole, Dirty Rotten Cheater and The Hustler have broken that mold.

    • @gatorman295

      I would probably add these rules:
      1) If a player correctly identifies the Faker but is not the winner, that player receives $250 cash, so even though a player is essentially out, there is still incentive to try for the right answer;
      2) If neither of the three other players identify the Faker, the Faker plays the Photo Finish round solo, winning the $10,000 for ten right answers;
      3) If all three players correctly identify the Faker, the Faker is out of the game and the first two players to identify the Faker advance to the Photo Finish.

    If you watch the Movie 9 to 5 you'll hear the same music that was used here when they show the clues and then decide weather to freeze. It's when Lily Tomlin steals the body from the hospital.

    @wisp2007 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    oh look it’s “far from over” by frank stallone again.
    in all seriousness I think this pilot is way too cartoony. maybe that was Wolpert’s jam back then but it might have played a factor in why it didn’t get picked up. wasn’t he also pitching “Duel in the Daytime” to NBC around this time too?

  • @MatthewJicha
    @MatthewJicha 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    There were a lot of good pilots by Jay Wolpert and Bob Stewart made that didn't pick up. Those all could've been hits. They just couldn't compete against the big names like Goodson & Todman, Barry & Enright, Reg Grundy, and Chuck Berris.

    I love Wolpert’s question writing, not to mention his pirate movies. The faker doesn’t really fake anything. It’s not like “The Enemy Within,” where they have to act. This game would be the same if the four parts of each clue were mounted above, say, treasure chests.

  • @mabus42
    @mabus42 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Wow, what a great show! I see a few things that could have tightened up the production, but given that this was a pilot, I give it a solid A-.... Why this wasn't ever picked up? I think that the networks at the time, as well as the buyers of the indies (if this was being sold into syndication) all seemed to have it out for Mr. Wolpert... Which is a crying shame. I don't think that you could easily rework this for a 2023 audience, but it would have been a hit back in the early 80's for sure.

    the front game was a joy, solid concept and execution. the bonus game is not nearly as good a concept, and doesn't really cohere with the front. might work as a side game as part of a different show.

    Also, I wish to see the pilot of Tic Tac Dough from 1976 or 1977, which I think was hosted by Jack Barry. And the second 1989 pilot to the Joker's Wild with Pat Finn. Plus the 1989 pilot to Quiz Kids Challenge, the 1987 pilot to The All-New Liar's Club, the 1979 pilot for The Letter Machine, the precursor to $1 Million Chance Of A Lifetime, the 1971 pilot for The Joker's Wild with Jack Barry with a 3-player format, the 1983 pilot for The All-New Let's Make A Deal with Monty Hall, the 1984 pilot for Catch Phrase, and finally, the 1985 pilot for Strike It Rich.
