Thank you so much better for making this you have shown a different side of gay black men and gay men. Not all of us have to be a stereotype or what Harris sexual society sees us as a minstrel show so I'm so proud of you that you had made this and for the black man that you interviewed I say congratulations and God bless you for sharing your story and I look forward to part 2

    Thank you.
I'm an 55 year old professional African American gay man.
I can relate to these men in one or more ways. I live a very private life due to the way ppl and society treat gay men. Its not to say I don't accept who I am or love myself but it has been the easiest way for me to deal with it. I was rejected by my family as well.
Again thank you for this program.
Be Blessed and and continue to be a positive and informative voice for our young people

Has anyone noticed that the TH-cam posts with sassy, feminine, or comedic black gays have mega views while this post featuring out, educated, and not stereotypical black gays only has 3000 views after being posted for many months? What does that say? I say that not only is society is not interested in us but blacks in general and the black gay community is not interested in us. That is sad but expected. Thank you Derek for this post. It is much needed.

No one can tell our stories better than us. These men made me proud to be alive at this time. The future is looking great from where I am standing when it comes to being Black and gay. Too many of our brothers are suffering in silence due to homophobia and other fear from family and communities alike.
Black brothers celebrating their lives and loves is as progressive as we get. Thanks to the host and panelists for this amazing documentary.

This was good. I’m a 52 year old black gay man. I live in a pretty accepting environment, including work and church. It’s gotten a lot better from when I was a kid but sometimes I’m surprised how much homophobia and hatred of gay folks still exists. I think discussions like this help. Part of the problem we had when I was young is you felt so alone. I had a teacher tell me when I was young that homosexuality didn’t exist on the continent of Africa. At least kids today know that gay people are everywhere. We’re every race, culture. We’re fem, masculine and everything in between. We’re not alone.

I think it's encouraging to watch these men speaking of their experiences. I grew up in church after my parents used to get us dressed up and out the house on a Sunday. Later we went to a Pentecostal church and our faith as children became established. It was around this time or a little before that I realised I was different. We had come from England and were going to school like all these Jamaican kids. So I guess I thought that was the reason. I noticed handsome guys with big affros and thought they were so handsome, but there was one girl and older sister of one of my class mates who I was aware I had a crush on. She was the most beautiful person in had ever seen. I thought nothing of it and went on to date three boys in my school years. Nothing more than gazing at each other or perhaps holding hands.

I came across this video by accident and I glad I did. It is good to see a video featuring masculine gay black men because black men are always portrayed as feminine or sissies. A good example is the Maurice character on the BET series, Sistas. I am a gay closet black male that lives a recluse and private life. Ryan Ashley Lowery is an attractive black man and if I was a younger man, I would ask him out on a date. In reference to the guy born in Newark, New Jersey, I hate the term DMV because most people think of the Department of Motor Vehicles. If you live in Washington, D.C., say D.C., not DMV. If you live in the state of Maryland, say you're from Baltimore, Silver Spring, Glen Burnie, etc. I didn't hear any of these black men state, they're members of the Divine 9. For those that don't know what the Divine 9 is, it's a black Greek Fraternity organization like Kappa, Que, Alpha, Iota, and Sigma.

This was a great documentary. I'm so glad this shows different kinds of gay men. Everybody is not the same. There are so many stereotypes. I'm a 42 year old black gay man and never had to come out as to who I am. And I am very well respected maybe because of my masculinity. But everybody knows that I'm gay. All my friends and family accept me for being me.

I watch videos like this and be like why can't it be me. Like my family should one day accept me if not completely. I mean any ideas on how to come out to a Nigerian parent who doesn't even know what being transgender or gay mean, it's like good luck explaining that to them and also like good luck explaining you are transgender and gay at the same time. It's a series that will never end😢. I love my parent they are the best but they are Nigerian. My mom bought me a sweatshirt that had LGBT design on the back, I ask her if she knows what it means and she was like its just a design.

Wow! Black parents in general are some of the more challenging people to accept our sexual preferences. Seek out the support of friends and community organizations to remain safe. Hugs and love.

As a gay black man who never seemed to fit in the gay community because I didn't know gay men like myself, I never felt like I fit in the gay community.
Thanks for putting this segment out for the gay black man who feels there is no representation of them.

This is refreshing to watch.. I'm struggling to come to terms with my sexual orientation. As if being black isn't hard enough. I need help. 💔 I must say all these brothers here are fine😍 I often hear people throw the word "LIFESTYLE" when they talk about homosexuality. Sex parties are a lifestyle or am I wrong.

Neo you are very brave and it's a process in coming to terms with one's sexual orientation. Lifestyle is down to choice. Take each step at a time.

2 many times in society we always feel we have 2 prove ourselves 2 d so called straight society, and as gay persons we have 2 labelising ourselves with derogatory words that only makes others c us as trash,we have great gay community builders, doctors, lawyers and a lot more than wat d media showcases us 2 b,wat I must say though, we as d gay community must not allow others 2 discredit us in ways which is very untrue of who we r ,no matter wat haters may say love yourself,4 god loves us all and don't let a few narrow minded people ruin your joy.
