- Hey guys! This Nissan Stagea 260RS Autech Version has got to be one of the most badass wagons ever created. With a full Skyline R34 GTR front end conversion, a single turbo RB26 under the hood, and almost 500HP at the crank, this JDM freight train is just about as exotic as the 90s can get in my books. We've had Nav's car on the show before in near stock form, and after over a year of modifications it's a completely different beast, almost unrecognizable.

Excellent video.... I’ve had a black series 2 260RS for 10 years now alongside a MNP2 R34 GTR..... this makes me want to do the front end conversion so bad! And that single turbo sound!

Stagea is the 90’s japanse version of RS6 avant, E63 estate and and m5 touring.
with that, it’s underrated and overlooked

Directly comparable to the Audi B5 RS4 except this is a very basic unrefined car.
Outside of Japan, the Nissan Stagea 260RS Autech is a rare gem of a godzilla in sheep clothing.
The chassis and drive train is derived from the Nissan Skyline GTR R33 BCNR33.
In Japan, you will see tons of Stagea with the R34 front end conversion and in some case even taking the R34 tail lights but that combo does look weird to most of us.
The black variant of the RB26 which is found in the GTR 32 and GTR 33 with the full stock internals are good for 450-500+bhp. Any higher and you need to upgrade the bottom end of the block to the RB26 N1 block and oil pump assembly. Same goes for the water pump. The crank bearings will need to be upgraded as well if you are always hitting 8000rpm on every shift.
Many will dump the stock twin turbo setup on the RB26 because the stock turbo breaks very fast as you over boost above 1 bar of boost on the turbos because they are only made out of ceramic. Only the R34 V-Spec II Nur received the stainless steel turbos which are able to take longer over boost.
Going single turbo means less troubles with the piping and also lesser heat being released from the twin compressors chambers running inside the engine bay. And its also easier for fine tuning of the A/F.
HKS developed a variable lift cam system aka the V-CAM for the RB26 owners, giving the intake valves the ability to change the lift of the cam during the low revs to reduce the "turbo lag" and bring up the low to mid range torque. Its a must have for daily driven Skylines GTRs and works with track car as well.
Most common upgrade to the RB26 is to get the stroker kit to increase the engine to 2.8L or 2771cc.
Because the stock gauges only goes up to 180km/h
Many will swap the gauges to the Nismo version which goes up to 320km/h and 11k rpm
The clutch and the LSD on the car will need to be upgraded to take on the extra power if he is aiming for 500whp
Tein does carry suspension coilovers for the Stagea which can be fully adjustable with the EDFC controller and motor unit.
IF he wants an all out Godzilla he can easily spent 20 grand just on a Tomei rebuilt engine alone and easily push 1000bhp with the matching turbo. Add a 6 speed OS Giken sequential gearbox for 30 grand and he has the Ultimate Nissan Stagea GTR.
Lin Chester the custom built tomei engine is that just a remove the stock engine and bolt in the new to the same fittings or do you need to use new engine mounts

I had a stock block, crank and rods Rb26 with TOMEI pistons make 650+awhp for YEARS. I beat the piss out of it for 6 years after the previous owner raced it in Japan for 10 years. The current owner is still beating on it and not one failure in 20 YEARS!! Build it right and you reap the rewards.

The HKS VCam doesn't alter lift. It changes the timing of the camshaft and allows for dynamic advance / retard of cam timing. It basically helps increase / reduce cam lobe angle separation. Closer for high rpm and lower for low rpm to help with low end stability and responsiveness.

500 crank hp is about your max on the stock bottom end on those 302 Windsors. I learned that the hard way years ago when I put 20psi thru my ‘89 notchback and cracked the block straight through on my second pull on the street😢

Alot has evolved. The factory forged 302 bottom end has gone past 600whp. It's all in the tuning and using a bigger turbo than you think you need.
thats crazy cuz i mad 704whp on a stock m52 2.8 liter with a low compression headgasket and arp studs. gotta love inline sixes :)
MightyCarMods out here in Australia did one in late 2015 with the R34 front end but a V8 instead of the rb26 .. you guys should have a look .. they have the whole build on their channel

I had a turbo Toyota caldina when I was younger, would have loved a 2jz in it.
the only two options are the crown estate with a 1jz single turbo, as well as the is300/altezza wagon. But that's a 2jz non turbo

The rs six did not come with 5.2 liter v10 from lamborghini you could get that in the s6. The rs6 came with a 5 liter v10 biturbo developed by audi.

2023, here we are…. A 1997 Stagea Autech is $49,995 for sale in Japan ready for export. $50k for the sake engine in a $230k+ car… or $360k for an M-Spec Nur R34… easy math….. You know why I can do with a spare $180k in a Stagea? Lol
