I'm Pottawatomi and wasn't allowed to be apart of the lessons involving my tribe. i got suspended for disrupting the class too many times. i had to bring my native id to even prove i was native American and i wasn't allowed to do the class project on my own tribe in 5th grade because they didn't want me providing false information. that's when i learned everything i needed to know on how people felt about us... when i was punished for correcting false information about my own family. i only had one teacher allow me to do so in high school because she said "im not allowed to teach certain criteria and will get in a lot of trouble if im caught but theres nothing stating i cant allow a student to teach it for me" she was the only history teacher i felt seen by

The literature was also incredibly laddened with "These poor plantation owners.... These poor southern white people." They sure as heck left out the part on heartbreak day. The older a person is the more whitewashed their history was taught in school. There are still groups who want to purposely remove this part of history completely. When you hear the words "ban CRT in schools" this is what it means. They wish to never speak of this history. Why? They wish to repeat it. For real. The prison system is filled with people who work for pennies a day. The state or federal govt. literally owns these human beings.

We had to read Harriet's book for one of my college classes and it was so hard to get through. The rage and disgust I felt as I annotated it made me have to take breaks. The people who did those horrible things laughed in men, women, and children's faces as they were being tortured and still felt like they had the right to call themselves honorable and godly people. They even tormented them when they were able to go into church. There is more to it and I highly recommend both book.
