I struggle with this show because I love watching for the laughs and gil was one of my faves when he played, but sometimes, the lack of coherent arguments makes it tough to watch. It's very clear what was wrong last year, what was wrong at the beginning of this year, and what is going better now. Last year, giannis and dame had very little chemistry and were doing a lot of your turn my turn. Because they are both amazing, they still won games, but even healthy, they weren't going to beat a team like the celtics because of that lack of chemistry and roster issues. Starting this season, they clearly fixed the dame/giannis connection out the gate, and our roster is better constructed. However, they could not get consistent role player production around them. Gary trent was playing really bad in the starting lineup. He has since been coming off the bench and has played really well. Our defense has gotten better by inserting a jax as a starter. And our bench production with removing pat connaughton's minutes and giving them to aj green has greatly improved. Another thing we weren't doing at the beginning of this season was closing. Over this last stretch, we are. As an example, we lost to Cleveland twice by 1 and 2 pts (without giannis for this one). And the second time against boston, we were down 2 with 2 minutes to go and lost by 6. Over this stretch, we have won 4 games that went to clutch minutes. One of which was against the 2nd seed in the west rockets. The bucks have played 4 very disappointing games this season: bulls, nets, grizzlies, and knicks. We had bad energy, bad defense and in at least 3 of them we were quickly blitzed and taken out of the game. All the other games I've been fine with. Even the 1st celtics game, we were on a back to back and beating them pretty easily in the first half but ran out of gas. No excuses, we beat them on a back to back last year, and it still counts. However, outside of record, if you want to talk about how the bucks are playing, I love where we are now without middleton. If we continue not to have him, we have very little chance of beating boston in a 7 game series, but I'd be fine against any other eastern team with just a healthy giannis and dame. If we have middelton, our chances go up to about 45% of winning against the celtics in my book without even seeing him on the floor. If he can come back and not mess up the chemistry on defense or dame's rhythm, I'd call it 49/51 celtics.
