I love me some Hendrix! Yes, this is a stripped down version of that style. A good starting point for sure. Thanks for checking out the video and enjoy your Friday.✌️
Hi Rusty. Just found your place here a while back and the truth is I’m inspired by the simplicity, yet correct way of teaching the guitar…. Thank you and may our Lord and Savior Jesus continue to bless you and your family and teaching ministry. God is also blessing those that watch your teachings. M
Started playing guitar 6 years ago, and mostly chordal structure since my hands are tore up and started guitar late in life, after playing mostly percussion and harmonica and while I thought I would never be able to play "lead" guitar, this video has opened my ADD brain up and changed the entire view of the fret board and how the notes fit together. This lesson is a pivotal point in my playing and learning to be able to not only play some slick phasing and leads but also opened up a whole new realm to continue to learn and apply to my guitar playing journey. In this lesson , I have learned more in this one lesson than I have with numerous instructors/teachers in last 5-6 years in my journey. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for passing your knowledge on to others in way us older people (an ones with ADHD/ADD) can understand and catch on faster to make stuff really happen with the guitar . You are an amazing teacher. Glad I found you. Appreciate all you do..Please keep up the great lesson. It means so much. Sincerely- RBG
I’m really happy to read this message! I can tell you are going to start having fun on the guitar 🎸 Learning is still fun for me. I appreciate your comment RBG! Thanks so much! Talk to you soon buddy 👍
Like another commenter I've been playing for over 40 years and you make it simply beautiful and simplified things that you can play beautifully. Many guitar players tend to overcomplicate everything and then we lose track of reality
I started to learn guitar a young age but couldn't afford guitar lessons learnt how to put a few chords together and got quite good at rhythm but never really studied the fret board .just picked up the guitar again after many year's and your lessons are a great help.. your a brilliant teacher thanks
Rusty, these licks and positions are so pretty. I’m an amateur songwriter. Words come to me easily as do chords but what you’re demonstrating in this video is so valuable to making a song so much better! Who the heck couldn’t spend time listening to songs that contained these sounds?
You have become my absolute favorite guitar instructor on the web. You're instruction is so concise, you're insights are brilliant, and your passion for the guitar shines bright. Thank you so much for your videos. Your teaching methods have helped me a ton.
I been playing music since late 80s.fooled with guitar.learned chords few licks. Then went to drums played 20 years. Retired in 2000 .im 65 Never read music. Came back to guitar. Learning a little here an there. From some really great TH-cam videos different guys. But your teaching I have picked up more in 3 weeks than ever. Thank you Rusty.your a great guitarist
I’m really glad to hear that you are learning from the lessons! Learning something new is fun and exciting for sure! Thanks for checking out the video, Tommy! Have a great weekend😄
Hey Rusty - just wanted to thank you and wanted to say these are easily the best guitar lessons on TH-cam! I've been playing for around 6 years now and have felt stuck for the past year and a bit, but these videos have really helped me as an intermediate guitar player! Plus it always helps to have a warm and friendly host such as yourself! If you had private online lessons I'd sign up in a hearbeat. Keep doing what you do, and thanks again! - Steve
Hey Steve, I’m really glad you like the lessons, and the way I teach! I still might do private online lessons coming up. But until then I will keep making TH-cam lessons for the intermediate player. Thanks so much Steve for your support and the great comment! 👍
Thanks Rusty, this is just what I need. I try to do it already a bit, but getting there on the spot takes practice. Yet, it's essential if you're the sole guitar player in the band. Cheers, Martin
I wish I had this lesson when I started, kids these days should feel lucky to have you teaching this. I really appreciate the different approaches to playing the guitar. Thank you! Awesome video as always, Rusty!
I like how you get into that "B Dorian shape," coming off of the AM. It is so present in major-based rock and roll, most notably, the Stones, Hendrix, Clapton, etc.. Nice tutorial!
@@jonathanmireles3071 You are SO RIGHT! As a matter of fact, Santana is probably THE most notable AND noticeable when it comes to Dorian modality. And, I'm saying that, being a HUGE Santana fan. I recently saw him in CHitown last summer at the Ravinia. First time was in Merrillville, at the Star Theater, back in 1982, during Zebop tour. The opened with "La Primera Invasion." Best show I ever saw. Hands down.
Rusty I have been a member of countless guitar instructional sites and I can honestly say I've learned more from you than all them others. Thank you thank you also appreciate seeing a Bible in your videos I am a lead guitarist in our church band
Thanks so much Edward! That’s kind of you to say! I read the Bible in that spot every morning! I am on our worship team at church also! Blessings to you Edward! Have an awesome Sunday at church🙏🙏🙏
This type of guitar lesson I was looking for long time. As a beginner often struggle how to learn playing blues. With this lesson I will start practicing and I believe I will quickly benefit from it. Thank you
Hi Rusty. I'm an intermediate player that's been stuck in a rut for a couple of years. I've bought guitar lesson books, signed up to online courses & tried watching countless other TH-cam videos. None of them have managed to explain the workings of the fretboard as well & as simply as you do. Subscribing to your channel & following your instructions has opened up the fretboard to me & helped me to finally get out of the rut I'd been stuck in for so long. Thank you for a superb channel.
I’m happy to read your message! It’s exciting to make new connections on the fretboard! It still is for me also! I’m glad you like my videos. Have a rockin week bro 😎
I have been playing for over 30 years and in 2021 I had three massive strokes so the way you show CarPlay for lack of better words is like a godsend mean remembering certain things that I used to play and revisiting the way I used to play. Thanks to you. I appreciate you.
Hey Brian, i’m praying for your long lasting recovery🙏. I’m so glad you like the videos! I really appreciate you leaving this comment! Have a great rest of your week Brian.👌

That was fantastic. I'm really focused on that thing about using the little double-stop to slide up the next inversion and back, and I think I'm going to get some real mileage out of it. Thank you!
Rusty - you go right to it and teach us the best stuff. You are helping me advance from intermediate on up. Really appreciate you sharing your knowledge in such a thoughtful and friendly way. You rock brother. Keep going! Thank you.

Hey Shawn, i’m glad you noticed! I read the Bible every day in my studio! I like the way you put that. Spirit moving through your fingertips! Blessings to you my friend.🙏
I've actually been psyched to get stuff out of the way every morning to clear my head/obligations tackle a new (or previous) lesson and improve on guitar, Rusty! This has just been to boost I've needed! One lesson I've always considered as a potential standout (but tough to put together I'm sure) is one that just tackles a bunch of great soloing ideas in one lesson for all keys. In other words, to help us not get locked up with 'man!! Now I wish I'd considered those double stops or pedal note, octaves, pre-bend, chord hits......etc.......enough ideas to drill into my player's head that I wouldn't be so worried about clamming up! Your lessons do this of course but here I mean an all-in-one lesson we can refer back to and have at the ready when needed. Some other instructors and sites have agreed this is a great concept but just too generalist and open to interpretation. However, I can definitely tell that the totality of your great lessons do achieve this! Jim C.
I am really glad that the lessons are helpful! There are some great tools in this video for sure! Sounds like you know the right things to work on! Thanks Jim! Have fun with that guitar this weekend👍
Hey Rusty, nice easy going lesson as always man. Many lessons I find are always on two ends of the spectrum, either beginner or extremely advanced. It’s not easy finding lessons on an intermediate level though, not many good ones at least. Thanks again, great lessons 🤙
Amazing Rusty, absolutely fantastic tutorial 🙏🏻 love the double stops with a hammer on then sliding up to the Major 3rd. I’ll be giving this a go in the morning 👍🏻 thank you and have a great weekend my friend 👍🏻🏴🎸
Great to hear from you Dave! Always appreciate your feedback! Definitely some good techniques in this video. Hope you can put a couple into your toolbox. Especially sliding up to the major third. Let me know how it goes and you have a great weekend also😄
Rusty, you are a wonderful teacher! God bless you for all your insights that open up a whole new world to people like me who have been playing for years, but have not connected the dots like you so eloquently show and share.
Thanks Joseph. I’m happy to help! I’d like how you said connect the dots. That’s a good way to look at learning on guitar. Thanks for the comment and happy Sunday.🙏

Thank you soooo much. I can play all kinds of chords and the same with scales but I'm having a really hard time fusing the two. I'm not even done with the video but know that THIS is what I need desperately. Looks like I have the next year of practice cut out for me. Thank you again.
Awesome sir! Whenever I hear John Mayer, Hendrix or frusciante playing chords I always hear these little fills and licks and leads between the chords,I always wondered how this wizardry was done . Thank you 🙏
I really liked this lesson Rusty, this kind of playing with chords and fills/embellishments, you gave us a bunch of beautiful fills to practice with major and minor chords. I have the problem of keeping the time with fills. Thanks so much my friend!
Every lesson I have watched of yours is great. You make things so simple and NOT complicated. You show exactly how to do what you do and you do it slowly so anyone can catch on. Your lessons are great. Definitely a subscriber and fan! Thank you for sharing all your knowledge. People pay big money for lessons like these. MUCH APPRECIATED!! I'm always looking for your next post. Yes, there are things my hands cannot do like yours but that's what practice is for. Knowing WHAT to do is the huge key to the puzzle. And, you are a Cubs fan!!! Just another plus!
Thank you Bill this is one of the best comments I’ve ever got!!! I really do appreciate your support to my channel. It sounds like you’re moving forward in your guitar journey. Have a great weekend BG. Go Cubbies 😎👍
Great stuff. I have this saved in my playlist to revisit. There is a lot of gold here. I wish I was at home with a guitar rather than at work right now.
The sign of a good lesson is, that the lesson makes you want to grab your guitar! I love this comment Jeff! I’m glad you’re saving it! Let me know how it goes later on. Have a great weekend buddy.👍
Found this gem thanks Rusty this is just about exactly where I'm at right now. Just learning to put all the pieces together through phrasing and targeting my root notes 👍🏻
Wow, what a great guitar lesson, I got so much from that. I think we’re very lucky to have someone like you showing us the way in an easy to follow lesson 🤙
@Rustys Guitar always have fun with your tutorials..........learning so much from them.......starting to see the chord shapes now .........only starting to see them but I take great satisfaction from that.......as with everything just needs to be built upon
Comments like this make it all worth it, Paul! Because early on, I did not see the chord shapes at all!!! I’m glad our eyes are open to the fretboard now! And greetings always from the USA my friend! Talk to you soon😄
I’m really happy to hear that you look forward to the lessons Stew! It’s always exciting to learn new things on the guitar. It still is for me. Have a great rest of your Friday, and keep rockin Man. 👍

Yeah, I happened across Rusty not long ago... He's got some really good licks. It's practical stuff for an '"intermediate" guitar player. (He says it's for beginners too, but I don't think he remembers what it's like for most real beginners, lol.) Thanks, Rusty!
Hey Jeff, thanks for checking out the lessons. I guess I mean beginner at Soloing not beginner that is still learning chords. I should stress that more. I appreciate you Jeff and enjoy your day.👍

You make it exciting to learn again ! I just got to get all this stuff under my fingers and stay with it.
Nice! I’m glad to hear that! Let’s keep moving forward together! Talk to you soon👍
I really liked this lesson Rusty, this kind of playing with chords and fills/embellishments, you gave us a bunch of beautiful fills to practice with major and minor chords. I have the problem of keeping the time with fills. Thanks so much my friend!
You got this Rafa! Keep working on it bro 😎 Thank you for the comment and have a great weekend 😄
These lessons are so awesome, please continue making these videos, Love them and Thank you so Much!!!!
Thanks a lot Richard! More to come! Have a great Sunday🙏

The sign of a good lesson is, that the lesson makes you want to grab your guitar! I love this comment Jeff! I’m glad you’re saving it! Let me know how it goes later on. Have a great weekend buddy.👍

Really great Rusty!! Thank you brother!
Cool! I appreciate the comment👍
Yeah, I happened across Rusty not long ago... He's got some really good licks. It's practical stuff for an '"intermediate" guitar player. (He says it's for beginners too, but I don't think he remembers what it's like for most real beginners, lol.)
Thanks, Rusty!
Hey Jeff, thanks for checking out the lessons. I guess I mean beginner at Soloing not beginner that is still learning chords. I should stress that more. I appreciate you Jeff and enjoy your day.👍
Great lesson. Well done.
I’m happy to hear that! Thanks for watching. Happy new year.👍
Great stuff Rusty👍
Thanks a lot Martin! Talk to you later buddy👍
