    For a doctor, or someone with money, I understand the brands. For a man/woman that lives in the everyday struggle for success, I suggest Shady Rays. Incredible shades for a respectable human price. I don’t feel price gouged with them. I feel respected by their team and what they offer.

      Quite true. The mark up on these branded sunglasses can be horrendous. People pay silly money for a bit of plastic that has a brand name on it. How much does it cost to make a metal or plastic frame with some tinted plastic plano lenses in? A few dollars basically, regardless of the brand name on them. This video explains some of things the industry doesn't want you to know. th-cam.com/video/gDdq2rIqAlM/w-d-xo.html

      @@chrislee6650 yep. That’s why I respect the companies out for the little man. The men and women like me. I’m a truck driver, I make decent money but I wanna look good, respected (by the company I purchase from) and feel like I’m not being ripped off for buying plastic eye wear. Shady Rays bro. Shady Rays.

    • @danielgrant9213
      @danielgrant9213 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are actually a lot of good sunglasses that are relatively inexpensive. Suncloud optics are also pretty nice for about the same price as Shady Ray's. GoodR (which I have never tried) are even cheaper, as are Costco's Kirkland brand sunglasses ( fantastic quality and like $25, but very little variety in terms of style, sizing, or tint).
      Also, if you really just want functional glasses it is tough to beat Bobster (a brand made for ppl who ride motor cycles). They're in roughly the $50-$80 range, but you can also frequently find them on sale. I've got a $20 pair that I love. You can also find a few really popular models from Wiley X (like the Valors) that sell for around the same price as a pair of Shady Rays.
      Half the reason why Shady Rays are priced well is because they are made in China where labor is cheap. To be fair, they do pass the savings on to the consumer, and some much more expensive glasses are also made in China (some Ray Bans and Oakley's for example). In terms of pricing, Chinese made glasses will be cheaper than Taiwan made glasses, which are cheaper than Italian, which are cheaper than US made, which are cheaper than Japanese. Also sometimes the materials push the price up. Acetate frames and glass lenses are both expensive, Titanium tends to be very expensive, and Titanium made in the US or Japan = nosebleed prices. Are glasses made this way actually better? Maybe. They have advantages and disadvantages. I avoid glass, and acetate regardless of my budget, and actually usually prefer polycarbonate lenses and grilamid frames (nylon lenses can be good too though I do not like CR-39), but did recently shell out $$ for a pair of US made, aluminum frame Gatorz, and I'd pay that premium again. Those are worth it to me.
      So while luxotica can certainly rip people off, there are also sometimes legit differences between cheap and expensive glasses. For example, even with cheap Chinese labor, a pair of glasses with real acetate frames and 7 barrel metal hinges are still probably going to run you over $100.

    Randolph is amazing. I've had the same pair for 12 years. I have replaced the lenses once and the glass is the reason for having these. I have the square Aviators. I also love Maui Jims. I prefer glass, but I love how light their nylon rimless sunglasses are.

    One of my favorite pairs is the Steve Madden ones I actually received from you. I've always had a struggle finding glasses that were comfortable since I have a wider face. One of the first pairs I ever got that was the most comfortable I got from you in Buffalo. The Old Pacific sport pair. Affordable and very comfortable. I ended up giving them to my Dad so he had a nice pair of good sunglasses. I also like the Steve Madden glasses because it always makes me think of Wolf of Wall Street 🤣

    The "denim" sunglasses are probably made from micarta, a kind of plastic that you can use to plasticize certain materials (like paper, linen, canvas, and denim)
    It's super durable and pretty cool because they will retain some of the look and even the texture of the original material. I would guess that an optician would not be able to change the shape of the frames though since it's a very tough, stable kind of plastic

These are also quite expensive sunglasses, but I don't know if these are just styling, fashion and brand orientated sunglasses or if their lenses are any good and/or high quality. Light sensitivity is a tough thing. There are a few articles I have read and reviewed but they are largely still unsure of the exact cause. For some conditions it stems from inflammation of the eye and rebound iris movements and other people it seems more neurological (such as migraine and TBI). I hope to have a video soon about some lesser known treatment options.

      I suffer from mild photosensitivity, particularly if the brightness is caused by intense glare (the only bad headaches I get are when I’m squinting near the beach or when I went up in the snow), and have found that, aside from polarization and Cat. 3 darkness on lenses, that blue, rose, orange, and amber tints work very well in reducing strain and fatigue on the eyes. More so than more neutral tones. Any insight on lens tints in your experience?

    Hello, I'm still on the hunt for a good quality pair of sunglasses. I'm wondering if maybe you would know or could point me to the right resource for this situation. I've went through about 3 pairs of sunglasses already that have split into pieces and have material peel off. They've all been plastic, and I found when I apply sunscreen (chemical one, can't use mineral), it didn't matter how long I waited after applying, something between the plastic of my sunglasses and the sunscreen would react and practically melt them off my face overtime. Especially on hot sunny days! The only info I could really find was on a forum where someone said sunscreen ruins plastic especially with heat. A lot of people who wore sunscreen would rub off on the plastic interior of their vehicles and it would wreck it overtime. Overall, I'm wondering if sunglasses with steel frames would be better?

      That is called the perkinje tree. It is when light enters the eye and illuminates more of the peripheral retina. Usually a pretty normal phenomenon to experience. If you are experiencing any vision loss or changes then best see your local eye doctor for confirmation that everything is still OK.

    While tinting is good, sunglass conventions just seem obscene for those needing correction. First of all those obligatory big bug-eye styles are dysfunctional when sph and esp massive cyl corrections thicken the lens edge to greatly exceed frame width. That narcissistic look is so needless when the frame can be smaller, closer to the face, and conforming tightly to give the same coverage with thin lenses. Getting tints, photo adaptive, and especially polarized lenses in corrective is normally extortionate in price. The fashion aspect explodes the price, which already skyrockets insurance costs for even clear lenses. Is coolness so important that you can't use polarized clip ons? I have those as well as many small framed corrective glasses costing under $10 including postage where I had either gradient or photochrome tinting for $30 extra bucks. Frames a bit ugly, and prices on the rise, but sane.

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth  ปีที่แล้ว

      I appreciate your viewpoints! All I think are rather valid. It does seem a lot of sunglasses are designed around the whole bug-eyed look. I think the larger frames on sunglasses is to protect more of the eyelids and maybe protect the eyes from wind/debri and the environments. But yes, the shape/designs make it difficult for full Rx lenses with more astigmatism. For those cases I think more of a regular pair of glasses with sunglasses rx lenses work great. The clip on market is still a great idea, i like the magnetic kind that are designed for specific pairs, mostly due to the appearance and convenience.

      I assume that you are talking about tinting the windows in your car, and I would suggest that you don't do it. Get some quality sunglasses that you can use, as needed. If you tint the windows in your car, you are further limiting visibility at night, which can be dangerous. Sunglasses are the better (and cheaper!) way to go.
