Story 1-If your GF keeps giving people money, and you keep refilling her coffers and covering the necessities, then your GF isn't giving people money, you are, but with an extra step and none of the credit.

    • @chelseas3885
      @chelseas3885 ปีที่แล้ว +2

None of the credit might be a good thing for OP, since the appearance of the money not coming from him will keep them from bugging him directly. A bit unfortunate for his GF that they'll be bugging her instead, but separate finances and only giving them "her" money gives her the plausible excuse that she doesn't have money to give them when they come back for more. A united front of saying 'no' to people would be better, but that added layer of protection is better than nothing.

then love of anything is the root of all evil... like gluttony and greed are the same thing as love. Good thinking. Gluttony and greed can obsess over or on anything... and it can cause evil of anything. When you issue a blanket judgement, always check for 'moth holes' duh

Exactly! I grew up poor. I married someone well offish. I was put down by none other than my own family members. I was told that I wasn’t going to heaven because money breeds evil. So sad. I helped my parents live a decent life until their death. Everyone else can just kiss my tush! I’ve had a wonderful life with my hubby since.

The guy in the first story needs to get a therapist, to deal with his grief, and financial advisor to help with financial decisions, and 2 accountants one to watch out for the other to make sure isn't scamming him. He probably also needs to take a break from the girlfriend to deal with his own mental health and block all her relatives numbers.

The correct quote is “the love of money is the root of all evil” and, therein lies the truth. People will become different whenever money is involved whether it’s inherited or won. Just look at what happens when someone dies, the people who you thought were wonderful show their true colors. Be careful.

When my grandmother died all I wanted was this ugly little picture she had in every one of her homes my entire life. I knew my family thought I was weird - especially when I said it was hideous ( it is!) - but every time I look at that ugly little thing I think of my grandmother.

Lucky to know before the wedding what life would look like. If your set to marry girl friend, set boundaries. Tell parents they will get a gift (through a lawyer) monthly. If they chose to give it to family members that's on them. Your obligation is giving them a reasonable life style, not others. Refer any gf family members to their parents.
As fair as the rest, talk to lawyers. Give nobody money directly. MOVE

I think that OP's GF and her family always had thoughts about his money as his mother's wealth was no secret to them and I think he should keep that in mind when he thinks about how lovely they were to him for the prior few years; people don't suddenly change they just get more comfortable about showing their true faces as time goes on. His GF may not have asked him for money, but when there's no need to ask it doesn't really count and the fact she became so free in financing her relatives after his inheritance rather said she felt secure he would replace it.

I do agree with the comment that the winners are their own worst enemies. When recently the jackpot was up to 1.3 Billion I would have preferred to win a smaller jackpot of say $50 million or so. No one would even notice that with the huge dollar signs being flashed around in the news.

Live within the means of what you earn, with the exception of special occasional purchases. Make donations anonymously. Don't tell anyone else you have money. Don't reward your girlfriend by reimbursing her for people she helps and make sure she also keeps paying her share of expenses in order to stay grounded. Those are a few things you can do to protect yourself.

  • @vegasrenie

Warren Buffet (and other billionaires tbh) somehow know how to live modestly, or at the very least, within their means. By assuming that everyone is after their money, they are able to keep it safe. they do smart investments, savings, and still manage to do charity work as well. I think the problem with people who acquire a great deal of money suddenly is that they’re not sure what to do with it, they are naïve, or they think that it will never run out.

Money isn't the root of all evil - the love of money is. Greed drove most of the lotto winner stories. It turned family and even trusted friends to do heinous things. My advice to OP would be to set up a foundation to take care of ALL family monetary requests with strict guidelines on how it's to be dispersed (college, medical, business startup, help in catastrophic emergencies, etc - and NO BAUBLES! NO TOYS!) and then remove himself from the entire process unless a situation arises that needs his personal approval. He will need expert help in setting this up. Then he can be free to live his life with his wife as long as he makes it clear he will not be involved in dispersing the money. Then he and his wife can cut contact with those who refuse to accept their wishes.

My friend won a jackpot and brought his girlfriend a new car. That idiot gave her brother the car because she fell for his sob story. She told him that her boyfriend had the money to buy her another one!! She gave her stupid brother a freaking Mercedes!! He then turned around and sold the car!! My friend left her and moved out of country!! She claimed she was pregnant when he left but didn't tell anyone until he had been gone for three months!! He came home and asked for a DNA test. The baby was his! She asked for $8000 a month for child support. He filed for full custody and won!! He and his son now live a quiet life in England!

I know how you feel, an inheritance is like bees to honey. You will have to be strong and trust yourself. You will have to tell your girlfriend that there will be times when you say no, that you mean no. That goes for family and friends also. You are not a bank, and you are not responsible for taking care of the family's needs, wants, or desires. If you become the bank, they will just become lazier about financing their own lives. Pray, trust God and trust yourself. You will be resented for saying no, but ask yourself this ? If you had no money, what would they do to solve their problems and or dreams if they didn't have you to fall back on.

My nieces uncle on her mother’s side had won about $12,000,000 in the lottery. He had similar problems with people. Even his son tried to beat him once because he wouldn’t give him what he wanted. His son became entitled so he pretty much cut him off. His ex (sons mother) & her boyfriend tried to run him over. He had to hire a bodyguard. Then he got incurable cancer and eventually died from it.

Seems like your girl friend is gas lighting you. If she wants to help her family because they are so close that's on her dime not your. Make sure she still helps pay yall bills no free ride because you have more money. If she is crying ask if she should see a therapist about what she thinks she can help her family her mental health is important and if she is getting pressure to help her family but don't have the money . She should say no. But don't take care of her and her family. Stand your ground and she may not be the girl or family for you. Don't become an ATM and doormat. Your mental health is important and if you are drinking and smoking more release your stress and say goodbye. Stand your ground don't give them a dime or penny.keep treating them the same as before you got your inheritance. Sorry for your loss. about the loss of your mom seek therapy. They seem more worried about your money than your mental health. They showed you who they are don't think they have change your eyes are open .

That part is really REALLY stupid. Why would you even need $200K in cash? Why keep large amounts of money in your car? There has to be something else going on with that.

OP...Tell your GF to knock it off..She didnt inherit ANYTHING...She needs to look at the folks around her. Cut them away from your money. Tell them there is no bank of you!!

Op needs to go to therapy and couples, counseling and strong boundaries. The in-laws and a will testament and talk about future children are not.

You get some money and the leeches come out. Years ago my parents passed away within a few years of each other. The inheritance wasn't much but it wasn't bad either. I didn't tell anyone outside the family, my daughter told her best friend... who blabbed it to others. I had people that knew the friends brothers starting to hang out with me but not in an overly type way. I'm a nice person and like to help out others, and I was going through grief. Needless to say the money didn't last long and my plans for it didn't see the light of day. Some of them even started stealing from me after this. My recommendation is if you get money and help others out, have them sign legal contracts before you lend them the money.

I’m not rich but I am a hustler and I’m doing better than I used to and I noticed that I lost some friends yes it’s true relationships change when you filter out list of friends when you do better or worse which is why I don’t like to talk about how much I think to anyone that isn’t my direct family. I don’t think money is the root of all evil but there is a Darkside to humanity

Hire me to act as your Money Filter. All requests must go thru me, I'll be the bad guy turning down frivolous requests. Health emergency? Probably. Buy me a house? Maybe help with a down payment but only the parents get a home. Want a fancy new car when your current one is only 4 years old? ...Nope
Our you can do what an old acquaintance did when he came into a large lottery winning... He gave all the immediate family $30k with the written & signed agreement that they will never ask for more and never comment if he decides to help this person or that person or else they have to return the money.
Then he moved to a 500 acre property, built a nice 3200sqft log home and big ole woodshop where he lives happily.

If you win a large jackpot, you should take the Annuity, hire a lawyer and hire a financial adviser you should also keep a low profile if you can't be anonymous, and you should just dissappear if you can.

I wonder if you could sue the lottery for forcing you to go public and putting your life in danger. . But I heard the best thing to do is hire a lawyer create a LLC and then claim it through that anonymously but I'm not sure if that's doable

Money isn't the problem. The problem is GREED!!! Whether for money, power, material things or anything else. Greed is what screws us as human beings.
