I'll tell you what did work though, 4 screws are holding down the sunroof (visible from the inside) I removed all 4 screws, and the sunroof popped up, I cleaned minor debris, sprayed fluid film, put back the bolts (back bolts first then front ones) and sunroof worked flawlessly.
thanks. didn’t fix my problem but my kids enjoyed watching me play hokey pokey like an idiot with the buttons

Thanks for the video but it's still stuck open. It won't open all the way either. I can hear a click inside though.
