Thierry Henry and Ronaldinho are by far my favorite living football legends, they are the reason I fell in love with football in the first place, they are part of my childhood... Henry should have won at least one or two ballon d'or in the 2003 and 2004 seasons, he was so unique and underrated back then, he was almost unstoppable and genuinely a very good all-rounder authentic player. ☯️✌️

The credibility of the Ballon D'or will forever be tainted in some way because this man had never won it.
I wonder, before CR7 and Messi, was Henry in the GOAT conversations at this time. Surely he was. Even today after seeing Suarez, Neymar, Lewy, Henry still looks special to the eye.
He kind of was, but not super strongly. He was definitely already considered one of the best strikers of all time, and some in England said he was the best player they had ever seen. As for overall, widespread GOAT convos, to be placed alongside Maradona/Cruyff etc, he wasn't there yet. He was on the verge of being spoken about like that, but people were basically waiting for him to win the champions league or world cup as the absolute main man - which unfortunately never quite happened. I think a couple of things hurt him. 1. Spending his entire peak at Arsenal. Arsenal was not a glamorous, traditional, European superteam like AC Milan, Juventus, Real Madrid, Barca, Man Utd etc. 2. France rarely built around him efficiently. 3. His way of playing was ahead of it's time tbh. Back then people were more enthralled by aesthetics, rather than efficiency like they are today. Now, Henry had both of course, he was incredible to watch, but he was not like Zidane and Ronaldinho who had such mastery of the ball. Henry's main differentiating factor was his speed, power, and intelligence - and statistically, he was consistently far ahead of everyone else in goals and assists, but assists were also not as valued back then as they are now. I think Henry would be rated higher if he played today, and I think in time people might come to appreciate him more, coz he was such a unique talent.
man had a frightening balance and mix of graceful technique, explosive pace, incredible strength and a reading of the game and opponents that made him a nightmare to play against. as a child, i remember the most frightening thing about him was that he didn't have to play well like that for the whole 90. in 5 minutes he could completely wrap up a game on his own.
Always loved his goal against carragher where he runs 40 yards and nicks it off him, and motson just laughs and says “what more can you say about Thierry Henry”
Yeah great goal, but you could see at that point Henry was starting to slow down. A few years before, he would've clearly won the race to the ball, instead of having to fight Carragher off it.
Yeah would have been about 30 by that point I guess, a few years after this video, still skilful. Funny I always remembered him for his technique rather than pace, might be because I remember the latter years more

Yeah I love that piece of commentary, but tbh I've used it in other videos, and I've seen it in other people's videos so I used lesser known commentary which highlighted Henry's standing in the game at the time

What a fantastic compilation. Henry really was the best in the world at his peak 2002-2006 (24-28yrs old). A disgrace they didn't give the ballon d'or to him. Love the contemporary plaudits you used, must've been hard finding all this from 20+ years ago. Wonder if stuff like this exists for Ronaldhino and other 2000s stars.
