    i'm gonna defend the short bob in layers bc this hairstyle ompletely changed my appearence for the better, im reccomending it to everyone who has a curly hair like mine because it does such a good job at keeping the hair volume and giving it a nice shape. My hair just looked very akward before i added the layers

    I think it really depends on your face shape and hair type. I have very thick wavy hair and I have a lot of it. If I don't have layers, I look terrible. I recently got a blunt bob and I looked like Lord Farquad... It was horrendous aha

    I believe any haircut's look will absolutely depend on your hair texture. If you have wavy hair (i do), a straight blunt cut just makes them look incredibly poofy in a weird triangular way. Layers are an absolute must for me as i don't straighten them everyday and want my waves to pop :)

    • @julial4569

      I feel like I have an opposite problem with the exact same solution. I have a soft face and my hair is very, very thin without any volume. Without layers it king of hangs there like it's constantly wet. With layers and some styling I can get a lot of volume which complimentss my face really well. If I just do styling without the layers, it will just look king of poofy and messy.

I had this haircut midway growing out my buzzcut and it was so easy to wear because it is meant to be imperfect and it should be worn messy. If you have wavy or curly hair it's a style that is especially suitable for that hair type. Team mullet to the rise lol

    In "defense" of the mullet, as a person with really wavy hair, I didn't have to style it at all. Also, the fact that my hair naturally points to every direction makes it look intentional in a way.

    It's so interesting that these are the types of haircuts that look great on thick wavy hair, at least on mine they look great, especially the layered ones because your hair basically styles itself, I now am sporting a mullet and I love it, it is not more unstable than any haircut I've ever had and honestly I'll take unstable and unpredictable over the huge, heavy and frizzy ball of hair the blunt haircuts give me (also they always look boring on me and not stylish and sleek).

    i'd like to add something to the mullet! i've been wearing one with curtain bangs for ~1 year now and it's been the best hairstyle for me personally. i cut it myself when my hair was at my collarbones, now it's grown about 10cm give or take. i have quite thin hair with waves, and i think that's exactly why it's so suitable for me. it can get quity messy and weird overnight, but the only styling i need is to spray it with a little water and i'm good to go as soon as it airdries. so if you wanna try it and have similar texture to my hair, feel free to go for it without any worries. :)
    but i agree very strongly that it has to suit your personal style, if you prefer something like a preppy or chic aesthetic it might not be your thing.

    mid length layered haircut might work well with some hairtypes. i have really reckless, thick and slightly wavy natural blonde hair and that haircut works well since my hair's natural texture does the trick. i could imagine that cut on wavy or curly hair as well.

    • @mchobbit2951
      @mchobbit2951 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I love mid-length hair. I know, a lot of people call it "an awkward length" or "boring" but it's just so much easier to maintain than either long or short hair (at least for me). Long hair takes forever to wash and dry, it takes soo long if you want to style it, you constantly get tangles, it can get super heavy when it's up and hot when it's down, you use a ton of products. Short hair you cannot wear up, you usually have to style it every day unless it's a buzz cut and you have to get it cut very often to keep it looking good. Mid-length hair you can wear up and go longer between haircuts without having to deal with all of those long hair struggles.

    For me who has tried all of them, I started growing out my buzzcut and reached the boyish cut which I hated, then I had a mullet which was soo hard to style and then I did a Bob with bangs the straight across bangs which i decided to cut layers to my hair so it is easier to grow out which was annoying and then I reached the mid length layered hair which was fine actually and then now chest length layered hair which I like because my hair is thick and wavy

  • @idabjernemose
    @idabjernemose ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Ive had a very short bob with layers and the “boyish” cut. The short layered bob is my all time favorite hairstyle. I have wavy to loose curly hair and its very thick, and somehow my hair just thrives in a short layered bob. Though, because of my waves and curls i just rolled with the poof, which is a style i love. The boyish cut, is the cut im currently growing out. I loved it for 3 weeks, then i became too long and just annoying. I, however, felt the cut went perfectly well with a feminine face and suited it quite well. I have round eyes and cheeks and a pixie-like face, and i loved the boyish cut.
    To finish off, i dont style my hair, at all. So i just let my hair do and look however it wants.

      I think a pixie is different than the "boyish" cut with a all over similar-ish length shes talking about. While i feel the absolute same happiness in my gender expression (whatever it might be on that occasion) about a buzz or a pixie, the all-hair-is ~25mm-long thing felt quite unstylable! How are you handling this?

    I want to get a mullet, but I'm scared the person I'm almost dating will be weirded out. I'm very feminine and they kinda hate the aesthetic I'd lean into if I got a mullet. 😬 honestly, I kinda agree with them, a mullet definitely wouldn't suit me and I'd hate it the second I got it but I still want to try it out. Currently I have a kind of a wolf cut. My hair is really wavy and thick, it's a mixture of visible layers of dyes from ages ago and my natural color because I don't like bleaching my hair because it scares me wayyy too much. Ima bleach it and dye it pink soon tho.

    Bangs is my go to style but I completely agree lol. They need to be trimmed constantly, there’s a weird phase when they can’t look good, & wind is the bane of my existence. Buuut they are so cute & you can throw your hair in a bun & still look fashionable because of your bangs. Plus they’re pretty easy to cut, I think. 💖

    Personally I think mullets look and are styled best on medium/long hair. like really short at the top and goes to a longer hairstyle. you can do so much with it, braids, mohawk, etc. its hard to style when short, but still looks decent on its own, but when its long, it really gives a "wild hippie child" kind of vibe. I've been growing mine out since I was 16 and I've had to trim it here and there, especially on the top so it doesn't get into my eyes, but other than that its really easy to maintain especially if you have the right tools and time.

    As someone who grew out a buzzcut, I have gone through most of these phases. I really liked the boyish hair on me like 1-2 months of growing out. I liked the micro bangs on me but I disliked the rest of the hair being kind of a mullet at the same time, so I always pinned it back except for the bangs. Shoulder length layered hair wasn't the thing for me too because I don't like layers around my face on me cause it makes me look older. Now I'm having middle length hair with only a litte layer on the bottom which isn't flipping around my face anymore and I kind of start liking it because it got so long.
    All in all, growing out a buzzcut had like many awkward hair phases which made me less insecure about my hair and how it looks. 10/10 would do it again and shave it all off because the shaved head was one of the best looks on me

    I went from a chinlength bop to my current wolfcut midlength and you are totally right about midlength hair and wolfcut. for fine, straight haired girls, while once you curl your hair or add product to boost the volume, it comed to live, but when you don't do anything, be prepared for the big shag. Especially if you also have additional bangs. its a HUGE commitment. but when executed, really darn lovely haha

    I have sharp full bangs and have had that for almost three years now, and it is true that it is high maintenance to an extent. I cut my bangs myself and have to do that once a month or else they get in my eyes and bother me way too much, however i don't style them every day. After I shower I blowdry them to avoid frizzyness but after that I can usually just brush through them every morning and I'm good. They do look a bit awkward when wet but not to a point that really bothers me. The only thing I don't like is when I'm out and its windy, because they blow straight up and yeah that is awkward. Besides that I think it's a really great hairstyle for me, they really frame my face and it suits every length of hair I've tried as well so I do recommend it!

    I've worn the full fringe most of my life because it fits my face perfectly and I therefore have the authority to say: if you want to see if it's a look for you, use fake bangs (clip ins or tricks using your own hair pinned over your head) and only cut it if you're certain it will enhance your features.
    Styling tip: I wash my hair in the evening and heat style my fringe and then I sleep with a velcro roller on it. In the morning I spray dry shampoo under the fringe and brush it. It holds the volume well until the next wash day

    Ugh I feel this video hard. I have 1A fine hair and when trends changed back to middle parts, bangs, and mullets it was a rough day for me lol. I love all of those haircuts on people who have some texture to their hair but not so much on us fine 1A. I will definitely defend the pixie in general though. The in-between length you had was one of the more difficult pixie cuts for sure. A bit shorter or a bit longer is always easier. I love the mix of masculine and feminine, the fact that you can dye it constantly because it’s always healthy, and it can be styled in seconds. I can’t ever go back bangs though. That maintenance is way too much and the grow out is a memory I don’t want to repeat. Really fun video.

    I truly appreciate you giving us examples through your own experiences. I had fun watching you change so much last year! All those gorgeous colors and fun cuts! I personally love long hair (I just cut off 4 inches and it's still around 38 inches after that) on myself. Being tall, I can really exist with a longer style and not be overwhelmed by the length. It gets really wavy/curly when short and while I like those attributes, I do prefer a sleeker look and the length pulls out the curl to a manageable situation. I was planning to try a long butterfly cut on myself but I haven't gotten up the courage yet... we shall see! I just really enjoy your love of hair, Stella and seeing you play!

    It's so shocking for me to see the mid-length layered look on this list because I've been meaning to try it on my hair after seeing how amazing it looked on Stella! I have fine thin hair so having it one length makes it look really limp and I feel the layers would spice it up a bit ✨

    • @ML-cc7gj
      @ML-cc7gj ปีที่แล้ว

      In my case (also fine flat hair), layers did not really bring me additional volume, it just looked like my hair was unhealthy and it was still flat, just in layers. So now I’m trying a blunt, non-layered cut and my hair looks way healthier.

      @@candyflossbunny8855 Thanks! It is a lifelong struggle, to find what works for you in the present and when you mess up, you have to grow it out, so it needs patience and all. For me, it helped to create a folder of photos of all my haircuts that I could find photo evidence of, and just click through those in order. When you look at photos of yourself separated by time or other photos, it is hard to see, but when you go one after another, the picture starts to come clearer of what fits better and what not.

      You might not think that it looks good, but it's really low maintenance. Short hair
      needs daily styling, regularly haircuts and cannot be worn up. Long hair, however, is a pain to wash, dry and detangle. You can wear mid-length hair up if you need to, you can go longer between cuts than with short hair and it's much easier to maintain in terms of washing, drying and dealing with tangles than long hair. So I'll keep rocking that "awkward" "boring" mid-length hair.

I now have my thick bangs back and idc what anyone says cause I love them and they are apart of what makes me, ME! I don't really need to do much to them in terms of styling I only trim it when it starts to get too long and I also wash them whenever they start to look greasy. I'm half Asian with quite a small face so thick bangs really work for me and i look younger with them! My family and friends also prefer me with bangs so I will always have them!💖

    Thank you so much for this vid Stella, super informative and honestly really useful if you're considering a look change and it may take a while for your hair to grow out if you didn't like it.
    For me personally, I always used to have really long hair, I cut it into a medium length bob and loved it, and went even shorter and loved it too. It grew out during covid, and when hair salons opened, I decided to try short length but with layers, since my hair is straight and I wanted some movement. Worst. Decision. Ever. I actually cried about it, it aged me so much and the layers poked outwards and looked a bit like a mop. Took almost a year tor it to grow out, and it was so inconvenient for sport and studying because the layers were too short to be tied back. It was really crazy to realise how much an unflattering hairstyle can knock your confidence, so cannot thank you enough for putting this video out!

    I have a sharp line bangs and I love them. Simply because I finally learned how to cut it so it won't grow into my eyes and when I get fed up with the style, I simply swipe them to the side and incorporate them into the rest of my hair. Having wavy hair helps with that as the starnds that stick out... well, they don't stick out that much, I have crazy hair either way

    I have thick dark hair and it’s so hard to maintain when it’s longer (just has a mind of it’s own and it’s too thick to work with). Plus it traps in heat so badly. I wish I could have longer hair but it’s impractical for me. I’ve had a pixie for years and works but I hate the social views over it and the constant judgement for having short hair. 😢

    I have quite fine hair and no matter what I've tried I've always ended up feeling insecure about how fine it is. I tried long layers and lived most of my life with incredibly long hair, then about a year ago I cut it up to my shoulders. While I did feel slightly better, as soon as I got used to it I just went back to feeling insecure. I've been thinking about getting my hair buzzed so it's the shorter standing-up look since I don't think my hair thickness would be as much of an issue then, but I'm not sure if it's the right move.

      Hmm idk if you already looked in to the curly girl method? Not that you have to have curly hair. But it is all about finding what works for your hair. I don't have curls, but went from super frizy thin hair to super thick shiny hair. Look up hair porosity stuf like that. And if you really have super thin hair maybe talk with your docter to see if it just your hair or maybe there is more to it!

    As a 3A type curly girl I would LOVE to have a chin one length bob but I like the look only for straight hair - mine have to have layers to not look like a triangle, so this straight hairstyle is never gonna be sth for me 🥲 And if I cut it straight as the short bob, it would curl up eventually and it would be damn too short - and I like my hair curly more.
    But! For the longest time I was trying to grow my hair super long - never happened, it was just always dead af at the ends and it went nowhere, I just looked like a witch from swamp imo - finally I gave in, chopped it in a layered bob with gradual fringe at the side (I only wear my hair with part on side) and oh boy I love that. I never felt more sophisticated and adult and strong, even though I thought long hair would do this to me. I decided to let the fringe grow out eventually, because, as you said, it is annoying and demanding. Glad I tried it though.

I didn't have this haircut but a friend had it and it didn't wanted to sit styled, it would always go the direction it wanted, not that there's something wrong w/ it, but if u want to achieve an elegant feminine style and your hair's wavy, trust me, it will be really difficult.

    I have a ton of hair (wavy-straight) and an elongated face. I got my first straight cut bob about 6 years ago and it's the absolute best look on me: it gives me volume with 0 maintenance, it can be grown out for years without a big style difference, it can be just blow dried with 0 effort or styiling and it cancels my elongated face. It works so so well for me I'd reccomend anyone with similar hair type/needs to try it!!

    I've had all these cuts (except the mid-length layered) and have to disagree with most of what you said, well, most. I agree about the heavy bang. I didn't like it because it grew out too fast and ended up in my eyes and annoyed me. However, I didn't have a hard time growing it out as I just pushed it back into the rest of my hair and sported a no-bang look.
    I didn't like the bob with layers because my hair at the back has a tendency to flip up on one side and under on the other. I found this meant more work than I wanted. I also didn't like how structured the overall shape was as I prefer a bit of a wild look.
    The boyish cut was fine but a bit too short so I grew it out.
    I currently have a shoulder length shag (sorta like the mullet) and I love this cut. I keep coming back to this cut every time I try something different or new. I don't mind the product and I find it easy to style and it goes with my wild hair aesthetic. That being said, I have a lot of straight, fine hair and you do have to style this cut or it looks really awful. Also why I have an amazing collection of hats 😁 for those days that I just can't be bothered.
    Currently, my hair is shoulder length, with big bold chunks of dark purple and black (though really dark brown - I did watch your video on colour), and ... well, there were bangs but they're not anymore - lol. I think everyone has to find a cut that works for them as far as aesthetic, styling time, salon maintenance, etc. I know some folks have a real anxiety about cutting or 'screwing up' their hair. My sister is like that. ...but I just think it's hair and if need be I can cut it, or it will grow out, or I can dye it, or whatever. That's why hair is fun.

    I just recently got a sharp full fringe because I have a large forehead and whenever I tied my hair back, I felt like I looked like an egg.
    So I got it, and I feel much more confident with it, my hair is also just straight along the bottom as well- That's just my style, even if nobody else finds me attractive for it, I feel confident and happy with it and I don't need to fit the modern standards for beauty. :)
    I remember when I first got a fringe, eventually I didn't want it (I was a kid, my mother made me get it but then I asked to grow it out so she let me) so yeah, I let it grow out and because my hair grows fast, I kept getting my hair trimmed and then got some layers and eventually I had long hair (to my stomach) with layers and you couldn't even tell I used to have a fringe. :)
    and I just got the fringe again about 5 weeks ago, and I'm really happy with it because I feel prettier.
    Sorry for the long paragraph, just wanted to say my experience with it.

    My favorite haircut ever on me (straight with some minor waves 1c, fine but high density) is the layered bob. Soft short waves make the slight a line shape as casual as you want, a bit of product makes it very voluminous, or straightened is very sleek. And the a line shape is face framing and can be as severe or soft as you want depending on how high the layers in the back are. Side part with a nice clip and I’m ready for anything.

    Ho my!!! why haven't I watched this before going to the hairdresser... I made the mistake to ask for a light long sided fringe and layers (on my long hair). I was "envisioning" a butterfly haircut on long hair but... the hairdresser cut very short layers (starting above the ears); and I ended up asking her to cut my hair shoulder lenght to improve the awful look of this haircut as I have fine hair. I also wanted a very light long sided fringe and she cut a very heavy one. I'm now looking really childish and lack inspiration to find the right haircut fix. I have the fringe + mid length layered haircut problem 😔. Any recommendations to fix them both ?

  • @matheusalmeida8067
    @matheusalmeida8067 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the mid-lenght layers really depend on how you style it, my hair is somewhat past mid-length and I gave myself a butterfly cut after a long time with a same length haircut, the layers really made my hair pop, both when I weat it air dryed with its very loose waves and when I give it a blowout (specially if it's bouncy and voluminous. Although, I agree that it doesn't look that good when I flat iron it, so I'd recommend to style it either with a brush and a blow-dryer or let it air dry
