Milton forecast | Hurricane 'extremely powerful' as it approaches Florida

- Hurricane Milton weakened slightly Tuesday morning to a Category 4 storm before it is expected to make landfall as a Category 3 hurricane Wednesday night.
The maximum sustained winds were 155 mph, and the National Hurricane classified the storm as "extremely powerful."
"While fluctuations in intensity are expected, Milton is forecast to remain an extremely dangerous hurricane through landfall in Florida," the center said in an overnight update.
The storm could still strengthen back to a Category 5 classification between now and landfall as the eye of the storm restructures.
On Monday, the National Weather Service in Tampa said if the storm stays on the current track, it will be the worst storm to impact the area in over 100 years.
It is the second hurricane to hit the Florida coastline within two weeks. Florida, North Carolina and much of the south are still recovering from the destruction caused by the Category 4 Helene on Sept. 26.
More than 200 people were killed across six states in the deadliest named storm to hit the U.S. since Hurricane Katrina in 2005, according to Axios.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis expanded his state of emergency declaration Sunday to 51 counties and urged residents to prepare for potential power outages, restock hurricane kits, fill their gas tanks, stay alert for emergency alerts, know their evacuation zones, and ensure they have enough food and water for seven days.
DeSantis added that debris from Hurricane Helene needed to be cleared before Milton's arrival so it wouldn't become projectiles.
More than a dozen Florida counties were under mandatory evacuation orders Monday. DeSantis also suspended tolls across central and west Florida to try and make travel easier.
Forecasters warned of a possible 8- to 12-foot storm surge in Tampa Bay and said flash and river flooding could result from 5 to 10 inches of rain in mainland Florida and the Keys, with as much as 15 inches in places.
Tampa International Airport posted on X that it will suspend flights at 9 a.m. Tuesday and reopen "when it is safe to do so" and added the airport is not a shelter for people or vehicles.
The Florida Division of Emergency Services announced it had partnered with Uber to provide free rides to and from shelters as residents plan to evacuate.
President Joe Biden announced Monday he approved an emergency declaration for Florida, as well as ordered federal assistance to supplement response efforts that might occur due to emergency conditions from Hurricane Milton.

I live in Los Angeles and had a dream that Milton is God’s punishment for stupid, ugly yt Americans hating gorgeous, kind, brilliant, creative gays in and around West Hollywood, Capitol Hill, The Castro, Hell’s Kitchen, Fort Lauderdale, Logan Circle, Boystown, Provincetown, and Rehoboth Beach.

Funny I feel the same way about Texas I had lived there for 58 years. I had to go back this last week and bury my mother in the Dallas-Fort Worth area the traffic was a nightmare the pollution was a nightmare and it's 94° in October I get you😂

Now with my mother's death I have inheritance coming and I will pay cash money for the house so I will own it. I'm not syncing any money into an Investment Portfolio that can go tits up and I say sorry son your money's gone. I'm not going to be in my 60s and 70s living on the street and in my car. The eye was broken ...the storm will be less
The eye regenerates because it wants to grow the system but cant do it without breaking up first
The outer rainbands organize into a new eyewall and move inward, replacing the original eyewall, a process that can happen repeatedly over the course of the hurricane. During the _eyewall replacement cycle_ - the technical term for this process - the hurricane weakens, but this is temporary. Once the new eyewall is in place, the storm strengthens again.
I still question when evacuations are in effect why they never allow southbound roads open to allow more traffic to head north instead of bottlenecking..
If they can't coordinate that, they won't allow it.

In this emergency you can even call 911 and request assistance getting out of harms way. They can transport you to a local shelter and they would much rather get the call before the water comes in. After the storm comes they can't get to you.

Having just driven in Florida a few weeks ago, I think it's legally mandated in Florida that road travel be as stupid as humanly possible.
Takes a lot of people to organize that, they are busy doing other preparations. Traffic may look bad but there is still time for those in traffic to get out.
Emergency response vehicles need one side clear of traffic to move back and forth quickly.
Brain cells zero. Common sense non-existent.

Went through this very thing Hurricane Michael 2018 Tyndall AfB and it destroyed our base and we lost almost everything. Please please leave, don’t hesitate.
