  • At $95/person the high-tea at the Fairmont Empress Hotel is definitely not cheap, but it IS an amazing experience. Tea is served in the historic Lobby Lounge, where guests will also be treated to a 3-tier food platter and music from the baby grand piano while they dine and drink. Afternoon Tea has been served at the Empress in Victoria since 1908.

All the food which came with the tea looked quite good! I'm sure the tea would be quite good there. I just had tea in Britain a couple times when I was there the last two weeks, and it was pretty good!

Very cool! Mandarin Oriental in Las Vegas (re-named now) had an AMAZING Tea room. It's crazy how what you show here is pretty much identical to what we got. Yes, that cream is fantastic! So tasty!

Thanks Chris for your videos on Victoria! We are going there in the next 2 weeks with our 4 year old and almost 2 year old. Definitely interested in going for the Tea at the Empress but was wondering if you had to pay for your daughter? Do they have a separate menu for children under 5? Or did you share your food with her, as she's seen having apple juice and a cookie...
    Thanks ☺️

P.S. I enjoy tea but, at almost $100 a head, I see this as a novelty come across that’s worth experiencing once. Albeit, tea has a high oxalate content and should generally be avoided by people prone to kidney stone problems, such as yours truly.

IIRC, "High Tea" as in Britain is properly served approx. 4 PM. Not meant as any criticism of the Empress of course! Just a recollection from many years ago....

I’m a local to Victoria and we all think the empress high tea is very average and there are wayyyyy better places in the city. Abkhazia garden is so amazing. I highly recommend Abkhazia over the empress. People who come to visit often convince themselves it was a great tea experience because for many it’s their first. On the island we have many opportunities for afternoon tea so that’s why many of think this afternoon tea is far over priced. It’s not a terrible afternoon tea. It’s just too average for the price you pay.

Your channel is getting too upscale for me.🤣 You paid how much for tea? My Lipton from Costco is $0.03 a teabag.😁 Surprised they let you in with a yellow T-shirt. I guess Canada isn't as bad as the other 9 top tea places. Now that's a good bucket list item. I used to chase the tallest buildings in the world.

Hi Darryl.. we booked our hotel room at the Empress with the Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts rate which included $100 food credit per person. So this was effectively free to us.

Afternoon tea especially at a fancy hotel is always overpriced. I've taken in my fair share of afternoon tea back in my day -- you're paying not only for the clotted creams, the loose tea, the baked pastries and the finger sandwiches but mostly the ambience and the service. If you have a little extra $ in your travel budget or if you want to meet a friend for a nice sit down chat then I think it's a pretty nice, fancy, quiet thing to do. You should be able to stretch out a nice afternoon tea to about three hours. I actually like Yorkshire Gold tea bags, a British tea. It probably costs more than the Lipton but the Brits really know their tea and here in Canada, you can get 80 bags for about $9, a little less if on sale. I like brewing a few cups of it and having whatever carb treat or toast and jam -- my version of cut rate in-house afternoon tea :-). When I get back to travelling I think on my bucket list would be the best low-priced afternoon tea.

    FYI
My wife and I just returned from Walt Disney World’s (WDW) Animal Kingdom Lodge, celebrating or 50th Anniversary. I would like to say our stay was Magical like our previous trips to WDW but the Magic is gone. The resort was wonderful, the restaurants that we ate at were very good but the theme parks have lost the Magic.
Let me start this off by saying there are only so many hours in a day to accomplish your goals.
Just a few years ago everyone who visited WDW was on the same playing field with FastPass+. Now to avoid waiting in line for 1 to 2 hours, you have to pay a fee, it’s, if you want to have a good time fee. Now, WDW calls this Genie+ and Lightning Lane, a fancy name for “Now that you paid over $100.00 to enter the parks we are going to charge you extra money to have a good time”. “Gawrsh Golly Gee!” Isn’t this just wonderful. “To All That Come To This Happy Place…..”. Just open your wallets so we can pick them clean! WDW isn’t content that you have to pay over $100.00 to enter the parks, now they charge you an entertainment fee.
You will have to pay $15.00+tax , ($30.00 + tax for a couple) to buy the entertainment fee known as Genie+. But WDW still isn’t happy with gouging you with an entertainment fee, if you want to ride a the most popular rides, like Rise of the resistance, you have to purchase a Lightning Lane Pass for an additional $15.00+tax , ($30.00 + tax for a couple). So in essence if you don’t want to wait in line for 1 to 2 hours for almost every ride in the parks, you have to pay an entertainment fees totaling $30.00 + tax / person each day you enter a WDW theme park.
I am sorry, but for me the Magic is gone.

Thanks for the report. Sorry to hear the fee frenzy has arrived at Walt Disney
