Florida's 2017 Silver River Knap-In and Prehistoric Arts Festival at Silver Springs

Here is the 2017 Silver River Knap-In and Prehistoric Arts Festival. Expert flint knappers, archaeologists, potters, hide tanners, bow makers and other specialists in prehistoric skills gathered from across the eastern U.S. to demonstrate and sell their arts. Vendors offered reproduction stone tools, raw stone, flint knapping tools, unique crafts, food and more.
We enjoyed archery, tomahawk and atlatl dart throwing demonstrations. A flint knapping competition and on-going prehistoric skills demonstration also took place. Besides the knap-in, We explored the Silver River Museum and hiked on the trails of the state park.
All kinds of folks come together in the woods on the edge of the Silver River near Silver Springs. Some are bushcrafters, survivalists, and flintknappers. Others are artists, musicians, and food vendors.
Flint knapping is the art of making stone tools by controlling how stone breaks in order to create specific shapes and sharp edges. Arrow and spear points, knives, axes, scrapers, drill bits and a variety of other tools can be made from flint (also called chert) by removing portions of the stone through various techniques. Before metal working was developed, this craft was extremely important.

This was our first year... and it won't be our last. We had a great time and learned a lot. Do you know of any other knap-ins like this i Florida?

Aaron Phillips i just googled it and this is what i found, Friday, February 24, 2017 to Sunday, February 26, 2017 Knapping Festival - Ochlockonee River State Park - FL. ive never been too this one but it looks like it would be fun. it does seem like there was one south of here, but can't remember. its been awhile. if my memory comes back I'll let you know. lol

It's worth your time for sure. We had a great time and even did some fishing while we were there.
