I could listen to the piano intro loop for a long time. It is beautifully sequenced, as the ponderous lower notes every once in awhile give way to lighter, more hopeful musical thoughts. It's similar to the instrumental bridge.
The start of the piano intro is actual a very similar melody to one of the songs off his latest album Cinematic, the song is titled “Always.” The piano is great, and if you haven’t heard it you should definitely give it a listen. I loved seeing it pop back up on his latest album from 2018. Happy listening!

That was some weird rumor people started because of the lyrics Vanilla Twilight ANd because of how Adam talked about her (as if she had died, but he was more or less mourning their relationship, NOT her). Ann Marie is still alive, she is indeed married to another guy and happily so. As far as I know, they just broke up for normal reasons. She went off to collage and it was probably hard for them to keep the relationship in tact. There's a lot we don't know (which is good, Adam rightfully keeps his private life private) but we DO know she isn't dead and never was.
