I showed this song to my dad, and there were tears in his eyes. To all dads, you're awesome!!! Leaving my original comment for context, but I'm changing it a bit. When I wrote this, I didn't know about how broken this world really is. I was naive. So many people have commented on this though, and I've actually seen more since I finished high school, and I know now, that as sad as it is, there are absent fathers in the home. To all REAL dads out there. The ones who are there for their kids, and who care: you're amazing.
My dad passed away tonight. I showed this song to him three years ago and he cried. He really is my hero, I don’t want to live without him. I love you dad, thank you for everything.
Kevin Winder Sadly, most people don't listen to his songs and the critics hate him. It all started when he confessed his faith and that he dedicated an album to Jesus. The album received horrible reviews. I remember after a while this girl with Pink hair sang a song about anacondas that became more popular despite having no inherent redeeming quality in her song, she was praised to no end by critics.
I just love how most singers are writing songs about sex and then there's Adam who writes a song for his dad for father's day. This is why Adam will always be one of my favourites
katten elvis but most mainstream music is about sex. Maybe not all the modern music, like there's a lot of great Christian songs out there. But mainstream music is 95% about sex, drugs, or money

Needs more humility, and less of thesame format. Remember when the greatest artiats like Queen, Beatles, etc. were here? Yeah, we want those type of people
I think you've captured something that many artists have forgotten: Simplicity is best. This song is melodic, moving, and beautiful, in a simple, real way. Thank you.
Some people are unhappy with him releasing more matured music as Owl City instead of his own name, but reminder: the first line of the liner notes on every Owl City album ever says; "Owl City is Adam Young"
What I don't understand is why people think he's here to please them and give them exactly what they want. No matter what he makes, no matter what sound he does, someone will always hate it. He does more upbeat, "silly", electronic dance type music, someone hates it. So he does more acoustic, slower, and mature music. Someone hates that. He is an artist, and any artist (whether a painter, an illustrator, a singer, a dancer, or a sculpture or anything else) will experiment and try different genres and types of art, if art is their passion and how they deal with life. There's nothing wrong with it and people should embrace Adam for not only having the drive to try new and different sounds, but the talent and skill to actually master it when he does try it! Ahh well.. That's why Adam covered Garden Party. "You can't please everyone so you gotta please yourself."
I just heard this for the first time at work today. It almost made me cry 😢 My dad wasn't around all the time when I was growing up because of his job. But when he was at home, it was only him and me. Watching movies, going around together or playing Rock & Roll with the guitar and piano. 100% Father & Son. He didn't build me a tree house but he did teach me how to fight and dream. His message was something like "You can do whatever you want with your life. Just make sure that it takes you somewhere". He passed away in 2017 at 55 years old because of a cancer, in México. We spent together all April month of that year together. And we didn't have a good relationship back then until we met again. And in that month we revived the good times together. Father & Son again, knowing that it would be the last time I could be with him. He died 5 years ago and I still think of him every single day. Now I'm 33, I have a steady job and living on my own. But I do regret that he's not alive to enjoy all of this with me. "Not All Heroes Wear Capes". Well, my dad didn't have any cape...but he was and still is...one of my Heroes. I ❤YOU DAD
This is the saddest song I've heard since my father died on Father's Day. He died after struggling with cancer he suffered for 7 years. This song really represents how my father was in his life. I've never seen him cry, and he taught me not to cry over the little things. He is good at cooking. Whenever we got an order, my father always helped my mother cook. He always sewed my torn uniform, and taught me not to always buy new things if they could be repaired. He always helps me finish school projects related to electricity and mechanics. He always fixes things that are broken at home. We almost never buy new things when they break. My father can do anything extraordinary. I miss him so much after a month I didn't see his face again. But he always taught me to stay dependent on God, even when he wasn't around. He taught me to see that in suffering, the name of God is exalted. Thank you Adam for your beautiful song ❤️
Adam Young deserves music awards and deserves some big concerts like worldwide concerts, screw those people who drag his name and his career down they don't know any better in life.
I lost my father to illness 5 years ago when I was in high school. I think about him every day. This song is so incredibly powerful in so many aspects ... while my dad may not have built tree-houses, he helped me build many school projects and other fun toys. My dad loved working in his work shop and tinkering around with small engines. My dad let me drive his dump truck down pit roads, and run other heavy equipment when he'd take me to work. My dad fixed everything and anything around the house, and built 80% of our house on his own. I'm now 21, and going to school at the U.S. Air Force Academy with aspirations of becoming a pilot. I wouldn't have gotten to where I am without my dad's ferociousness, tenacity, and perseverance. I'm working hard every day to impress my hero. Thank you for being my hero, dad. I love and miss you so much! **Edit: Wow, thank you all for the incredible comments and support! Reading each and every one of your words brought both tears and a smile to my face. I currently am less than 100 days out from graduating from the Air Force Academy and commissioning as a Second Lieutenant. About a month ago I received the amazing news that I have been selected to attend pilot training after graduation to become a U.S. Air Force pilot! Life is so good. :)
@@jamesmannette thank you and you are too. We are all incredible for fighting despite of stumbling down in the past from obstacles. I don't know you too but I hope every dream of yours will come true. 🌹
@@sophiejenkins6635 You have no idea how happy your comment makes me, you just made my weekend. I hope every one of your dreams come true as well. You are so loved!
I lost my dad to Pneumonia last night...He wasn't a good father but he was still a human being I cared about. Adam's song is really amazing and it makes me happy that I had a dad to begin with. Hope you guys have a beautiful day! And take care of your parents if they're still around!
As much as I listen to Owl City, this is my first time hearing this song. It was beautiful. I can’t relate because idk my real dad and the dad I grew up with was an abusive piece of garbage. I have 3 sons of my own now and living every single day trying to be the best I can be to them so that they have a hero to look up to and look back on when they’re older.
This is the first Father's Day I am spending without my dad, who passed away last November. I really looked up to my dad, and almost every line in this song reminded me of him. Thank you for writing such a lovely song
Sadly, those are all the things that i wished my father was to me. He kind of was the opposite. But i still love him. And when i become a father i wish to be everything to my child that owl city sang about.
My dad found out he has esophagus cancer a few weeks ago, and we found out this past weekend that it had spread to his lymph nodes and is inoperable. This song genuinely helps so much. It's keeping me sane. I know they'll never see this. But, thank you Owl City.
Evan Oliver actually I didn't. I would've deleted my comment the moment he would've edited his comment. I've seen people come at such comments with much worse reply
I showed this song to my dad a few years back. When it ended, he just said “nice song”. No hug or anything, just that, and almost immediately he left. Since then I think his heart is not made out of gold, but of ice and stone. It hurt like hell. But I came to understand he showed me his love by working his ass all day 'till night, every day, so that I had everything I needed. That was his way of loving me. And that's why he's my superman.
I lost my father three days ago cause of doctors' mistake. Thank you, Owl City, for helping me to stay alive in any life situations. I miss my Daddy so much, I wish i could hug him for the last time and say 'i love you'. Hope he knows it.
But of the other doctors are even more insane... they forgot they left all the TOOLS inside the patient's stomach and it was patched up, they would be a dick if they still need to charge that.
This song is both touching and easy on the ears. The melodies carry that Owl City charm that is so hard to capture. Glad to hear some of that magic shine through.
OWL CITY IS BACK!!! I check my subscriptions, see an Owl City song and nothing else matters until I've watched it. This song is already one of my favourites.
@@jind0sh it sounded good, it has sentiments, the words you can feel, the melody is catchy but basic chords.... Is it not what makes it great? I mean music isnt about difficult riffs, complicated solos, It can be simple but a very nice listen.. The beatles had really simple musics and yet... 😁😁
@@sportsmusicmoviefan85 Sometimes it is the simple songs that resonate with people more than complex ones. I like that Owl City just makes music they enjoy, experimenting with songs like "Fireflies" to see what works and doesn't. It takes one song to get you famous, but talent to keep people interested in the music. Simple chords can be used to great effect with the correct strum pattern, tempo and lyrics. Complexity doesn't make great songs. It is talent, planning and the elements of a song that makes it good
Doesn't matter if its simple, sometimes simple thing can move our heart much more than other complicated things. Ed sheeran is an example most of his old songs are simple but yet more touching than the songs that wins Grammy's and other awards. Well I love this simple song.
Owl City means so much to me. Adam is my all-time favorite artist and will continue to be my favorite for the foreseeable future. His music is so metaphorical and real; it lets me know everything will be okay. Thanks, Adam, for writing this music from your heart. God bless, man.
He was almost there a while back. With Fireflies, he gained more notice than a lot of people thought he ever would as a kid with a synth, and an autotune (i love adam but in the beginning he was heavily autotuned, cuz lets face it, it was the trend) . a long way from where he was when the Of June EP came out. and in only 2 years. This sparked the collab with Carly Rae, and got him on the Wreck it Ralph soundtrack. He never struck me as someone who wanted to be in the lime light. He's just a guy, who makes music, to make people feel things. and I for one, am glad he's here.
my dad wasn't quite the role model i'd hope for. in fact, he's probably the opposite of what a dad should be. But this song, it paints such a beautiful picture of a dad, i can imagine clearly the dad i'd like to have, and that's awesome enough :)
Though this song is about his Dad here on earth, we all have a Father in heaven that loves us much more and even better-from his life I am sure Adam's Dad learned how to be a good Dad from God. I hope you will give Him a shot at being a good Father if you haven't.
"I didn't know he knew to cry Til our dog died that year" This hit me so *hard* because our dog died just a few months ago and that was the first time i saw my dad cry. And also the first time we(me my bro &my dad) cried together in each other's arms. Cause my brother and dad share a very strained relationship and our dog was the only thing that brought them together.😔😔
yeah it hit me really hard aswell. i always saw my dad as the tough biker he is, but when our dog Doris died was the first time i ever saw him cry and it was a moment of realization
This is simply phenomenal. I'm always so taken by Adam young....even when I'm in the deepest darkest corners of my mind his music pulls me out of it. I can't wait to figure this out on guitar and play if for my dad. he's a hero to me and you're a hero to me too Adam! Thank you for the amazing song!!
I hope one day when I have a son or even a daughter they feel this way about me. Update: 3 years later and my wife and I are expecting a baby girl in October. I will now be given my chance to be a good father!
I'm a dad of a 3 and a 2 year old and frankly I really aspire to be half of what these super dads out there are, including my own. You don't really fully appreciate them until you are one yourself and truly see the sacrifices they make for you. No words can ever express our love and gratitude for them and they never ask for anything in return. The real underdogs. Hug your dads when you still can.
He doesn't fight crime or wear a cape He doesn't read minds or levitate But every time my world needs saving, he's my superman Some folks don't believe in heroes 'cause they haven't met my dad He loves his workshop and rock and roll He's got a hot rod and a heart of gold And you could say he's a man of few words, but he talks a lot within And even though I'm a little taller, I still look up to him He built me a house in the arms of a tree He taught me to drive, and to fight, and to dream When he looks in my eyes I hope he can see That my dad's a hero to me Rust-ridden fenders, and doors full of dings Somehow he can fix about anything I didn't think he knew how to cry till our dog died that year He doesn't always say I love you, but I can hear him loud and clear He built me a house in the arms of a tree He taught me to drive, and to fight, and to dream When he looks in my eyes I hope he can see That my dad's a hero to me He built me a house in the arms of a tree He taught me to drive, and to fight, and to dream When he looks in my eyes I hope he can see That my dad's a hero to me My dad's a hero to me My dad's a hero to me
You know, i love my dad so much, while he hasn't taught me to drive, he never built me a treehouse, but he worked hard for us. he always told us he loved us and was there for us. To me, your dad doesn't need to be a handy guy and build you stuff (even though that's a nice plus)to be a good dad. Good dads come in all shapes and sizes.
i never actually feel that old because i still look and will probably be called young but it does show how fast time flies and how years can feel mere minutes
Who else misses these treasures, where the lyrics are actualy creative, with unique rymes and actualy motivational meaning? I want to see hands, people!
Even tho my dad left while I was 13 listening to this songs gives me the courage not to hate him and builds up enough pride to talk to him when the moments right , Thank you adam
I lost my dad 1 day after this song was released...and it hits home and it hits hard really bad...Thank you, Owl City, for this song! U have no idea how much it means... 😞😥❤
I am going to comment on a fact that everybody seems to overlook. The fact that Adam is the one playing all the instrument, he is the one who wrote the song and is the one singing it and as everyone else stated, there are no curse words, nudity, drugs or the like. Not to mention he also wrote all of those scores. There are no other artist who can hold a candle to him. He is so talented that he is actually a genius, but is often overlooked. All of these big name artists and rappers can't even come up with a decent lyric, let alone orchestrate a while music by themselves, yet they get all the money: welcome to earth folks, the land of chaos. This is the same thing we did to TESLA.
he's actually very clearly not playing the guitar, and in the actual song you can clearly hear two guitars playing. This video shows that he actually has no idea how to play guitar, you can tell due to the way he's holding it. Nice comment tho :D
Can't believe I didn't hear this gem before this. Always loved Owl City but this song just blew me out of the water. It's perfect. LOVED it!!! Thanks guys, you are amazing... "Some folks don't believe in heroes cause they haven't met my dad" & "He doesn't always say I Love You, but I can hear him Loud & Clear". Absolutely beautiful. Definitely doing a cover of this for this year's father's day.
i don't why this video din't got a billion views.. but seriously you guys are awesome.. no fake video, no sexy girls and cars just for views.. only a soothing background and a awesome music.. that's what owl city is.. my fav. band 😙

I don't know my dad. Haven't seen him, not even once. He died before I was even born. I was just a month old in my mother's womb when he died because of accident. All I see are pictures of him. I wonder if he even know me once I meet him in heaven. Honestly, I don't know what to do when that time comes. But he is still my father, even if i don't know him. We will see each other, I hope.
rigel rave Even in Christianity, losing a loved one is tough. Jesus made a special place for us in heaven, and your father (both biological and spiritual) are both watching over you from there. Don't be sad, be happy. This is far from the end. God bless you and your family!
He will recognize you and will run to you with profound love. He is watching over you right now and cheering you on as you go throughout your life and he dearly wishes he could be with you right now. He loves you from beyond the veil, never forget that.

And rock 'n roll
He's got a hot rod
And a heart of gold
And you could say he's a man of few words
But he talks a lot within
And even though I'm a little taller
I still look up to him
He built me a house in the arms of a tree
He taught me to drive and to fight and to dream
When he looks in my eyes I hope he can see that
My dad's a hero to me
Rust ridden fenders
And doors full of dings
Somehow he can fix about anything
I didn't think he knew how to cry
'Til our dog died that year
He doesn't always say I love you
But I can hear him loud and clear
He built me a house in the arms of a tree
He taught me to drive and to fight and to dream
When he looks in my eyes I hope he can see
That my dad's a hero to me
He built me a house in the arms of a tree
He taught me to drive and to fight and to dream
When he looks in my eyes I hope he can see

Just saying but he hasn't made a song about God so
Galaxies, Meteor Shower, My Everything, Not Alone. All of these are about God. XD. I don't know where you have been. He has made lots of others so...

Too true, I don't know who won the Grammys or MTV awards or the Billboard awards, but I know an Owl City song from almost the first line.
He doesn’t need those trash

It's way too "tight" to be 100% acoustic. I don't believe it. Must have recorded and looped some of it. Still awesome.
I wouldn't say it's more matured, but this also still feels like old Owl City in the ways that count to me. So..
I just heard this for the first time at work today. It almost made me cry 😢
My dad wasn't around all the time when I was growing up because of his job.
I ❤YOU DAD
Adam Young is such a musical genius... the world will be lesser without him 🥰
Absolutely love the main guitar riff Adam, such an inspiration to me and my song creation.
I love the way adam smiles at the best parts of his own lyrics!
I love how sincere Adam is with his art! Straight from the heart
Adam Young deserves music awards and deserves some big concerts like worldwide concerts, screw those people who drag his name and his career down they don't know any better in life.
I agree
I agree
Wonderland I agree
True
Agree but his songs sound very simaller to eachother
I lost my Dad too three years ago. It was so sad. But we gotta keep on fighting. We got this. ❤💙💛

I lost my dad to Pneumonia last night...He wasn't a good father but he was still a human being I cared about. Adam's song is really amazing and it makes me happy that I had a dad to begin with. Hope you guys have a beautiful day! And take care of your parents if they're still around!
Hopefully you feel better. Thank you hopefully I do have a beautiful day and take care !

Its been awhile...
May God bless you and your family 🙏
Im so sorry for you i wanna be like you some day
Be a good family man brother 😌
Wow that touched my heart
Spoken like a true dad. Proud of you man
Listening with tearful eyes ...... Miss you, DAD.........
And when i become a father i wish to be everything to my child that owl city sang about.
me too. actually i am now. i can perfectly feel how my dad used to feel. ready to let go alot of things for few "other things".
Not all parents are good parents. But we can still learn from them and become greater than we were and, hopefully, better parents ourselves.
I understand what you mean. Sometimes our parents show us how not to be parents.
I’m sure you will. Rooting for you!!
Well said bro
my first born son was born this morning. the kind of father i want to be 100%
Congratulations. I hope you'll be a great father.

My dad found out he has esophagus cancer a few weeks ago, and we found out this past weekend that it had spread to his lymph nodes and is inoperable.
This song genuinely helps so much. It's keeping me sane. I know they'll never see this. But, thank you Owl City.
just imagine when he's married and his kids just sing this for him

this song needs more ears to be loved .. love it :)
And that's why he's my superman.
i legitimately started crying as i heard this song, fantastic work as always. Kudos to Adam
I don't usually tear up when I listen to these kinds of songs.
But this. This one got me.
Seriously. I cried in the middle of class breaking down sobbing bc of this song.
I lost my father three days ago cause of doctors' mistake. Thank you, Owl City, for helping me to stay alive in any life situations. I miss my Daddy so much, I wish i could hug him for the last time and say 'i love you'. Hope he knows it.
I'm sure he does, and I hope you will get to see him again one day.
Does anybody put onion here :"((
Same happened with my Dad a year ago. I miss him a lot. Wish I was a better son😟
Same thing here
But of the other doctors are even more insane... they forgot they left all the TOOLS inside the patient's stomach and it was patched up, they would be a dick if they still need to charge that.
My wife put this song on an Instagram reel of me and my little boy yesterday. Made me cry. 😢
This song is both touching and easy on the ears. The melodies carry that Owl City charm that is so hard to capture. Glad to hear some of that magic shine through.
Getting Sky Sailing vibes from this!

Yep man. Those Sky Sailing days were awesome and this is too.. Owl City in 2017... a perfect combination 😀
OWL CITY IS BACK!!! I check my subscriptions, see an Owl City song and nothing else matters until I've watched it. This song is already one of my favourites.
This song choked me up at a wedding I was working omg this hits so hard on the feels.
When stupid songs get Grammy awards While this is the pure music. Keep up the good work.
Let's be honest, other than the sentimental value of its theme--which resonates deeply with me as well--this song is musically basic.
@@jind0sh it sounded good, it has sentiments, the words you can feel, the melody is catchy but basic chords....
Is it not what makes it great? I mean music isnt about difficult riffs, complicated solos,
It can be simple but a very nice listen..
It is talent, planning and the elements of a song that makes it good
Truth.
Doesn't matter if its simple, sometimes simple thing can move our heart much more than other complicated things. Ed sheeran is an example most of his old songs are simple but yet more touching than the songs that wins Grammy's and other awards. Well I love this simple song.
Reminds me a lot of home and my dad. He's an engineer and I look up to him so I became an engineer too. Happy Father's day everyone!

He's no best singer, however a great composer and musician.
I lost my dad in ‘05 and this song...dang...brought tears to my eyes. Adam’s one of my all time favorite songwriters and all around musicians.
Condolences bro 🙂
Owl City means so much to me. Adam is my all-time favorite artist and will continue to be my favorite for the foreseeable future. His music is so metaphorical and real; it lets me know everything will be okay. Thanks, Adam, for writing this music from your heart. God bless, man.
I want owl city to be crazy famous so more people can know him, but I also don’t want him to be disturbed when he make these wonders
I want that too my broooo😭😭❤️🔥
yeah, I hope there's a place where he can stay pure w/ much eyes from people, I doubt it
He chose to not being famous like other pop single
He was almost there a while back. With Fireflies, he gained more notice than a lot of people thought he ever would as a kid with a synth, and an autotune (i love adam but in the beginning he was heavily autotuned, cuz lets face it, it was the trend) . a long way from where he was when the Of June EP came out. and in only 2 years. This sparked the collab with Carly Rae, and got him on the Wreck it Ralph soundtrack. He never struck me as someone who wanted to be in the lime light. He's just a guy, who makes music, to make people feel things. and I for one, am glad he's here.
Fame doesnt matter, what matters is that he makes people happy with his music, because most fame is dangerous, its better to stay humble and simple.
my dad wasn't quite the role model i'd hope for. in fact, he's probably the opposite of what a dad should be. But this song, it paints such a beautiful picture of a dad, i can imagine clearly the dad i'd like to have, and that's awesome enough :)
Relatable.
Jeffro Ong if he's still here forgive him. Let him redeem himself. Always love dont hate
i have not even met my dad but this song made me cry
Though this song is about his Dad here on earth, we all have a Father in heaven that loves us much more and even better-from his life I am sure Adam's Dad learned how to be a good Dad from God. I hope you will give Him a shot at being a good Father if you haven't.
atleast if you become dad. be a real dead sorry for rip english
I chose this song for the father daughter dance on my wedding day in 2019 and could not describe my dad more accurately. My dog even died that year.
"I didn't know he knew to cry
Til our dog died that year"
This hit me so *hard* because our dog died just a few months ago and that was the first time i saw my dad cry.
Bro ima cry
@@jadenyuki3138 yooo
This is simply phenomenal. I'm always so taken by Adam young....even when I'm in the deepest darkest corners of my mind his music pulls me out of it. I can't wait to figure this out on guitar and play if for my dad. he's a hero to me and you're a hero to me too Adam! Thank you for the amazing song!!
I hope one day when I have a son or even a daughter they feel this way about me.
Update: 3 years later and my wife and I are expecting a baby girl in October. I will now be given my chance to be a good father!
+Travis brown I bet they will. Even if it isn't shown, it doesn't mean the love's not there.
Vocisoffaun shaw thanks😊
I wish too man...
Travis Brown same here
I'm a dad of a 3 and a 2 year old and frankly I really aspire to be half of what these super dads out there are, including my own. You don't really fully appreciate them until you are one yourself and truly see the sacrifices they make for you. No words can ever express our love and gratitude for them and they never ask for anything in return.
The real underdogs.
Hug your dads when you still can.
No vulgar words, no half dressed woman, no alcohols nothing only pure music
Edit :- Never got so many likes.
Yes this is called the real Music
Rhittick Chatterjee and that's why I love the songs from him❤
And a humble person singing
Rhittick Chatterjee ..but you can tell he snorted a little coke though lol...
Yes much better then other stupid music
He doesn't fight crime or wear a cape
He doesn't read minds or levitate
But every time my world needs saving, he's my superman
Some folks don't believe in heroes 'cause they haven't met my dad
He loves his workshop and rock and roll
He's got a hot rod and a heart of gold
And you could say he's a man of few words, but he talks a lot within
And even though I'm a little taller, I still look up to him
He built me a house in the arms of a tree
He taught me to drive, and to fight, and to dream
When he looks in my eyes I hope he can see
That my dad's a hero to me
Rust-ridden fenders, and doors full of dings
Somehow he can fix about anything
I didn't think he knew how to cry till our dog died that year
He doesn't always say I love you, but I can hear him loud and clear
He built me a house in the arms of a tree
He taught me to drive, and to fight, and to dream
When he looks in my eyes I hope he can see
That my dad's a hero to me
He built me a house in the arms of a tree
He taught me to drive, and to fight, and to dream
When he looks in my eyes I hope he can see
That my dad's a hero to me
My dad's a hero to me
My dad's a hero to me
Fanindra 💕 thanks
Thanks, very useful
Wow!!
i throught this is the lyrics
I thought you were writing about how much you love your dad for a second.
I hope he continues forever this is a really heartfelt song
Happy father's day 2020. Dedicated to all the father's across the world

Have to agree with you there
he's actually very clearly not playing the guitar, and in the actual song you can clearly hear two guitars playing. This video shows that he actually has no idea how to play guitar, you can tell due to the way he's holding it. Nice comment tho :D
Herp Zone, please do your research (about Adam not having an idea on how to play the guitar) before you say that. Nice comment tho :D
You are so right, and that's why Adam is my favorite artist
Love Green Adam, Tesla, and most every other genius in history
Best musician in the world, only pure music

So sorry
You Will meet him when u die im not telling a joke here
He will recognize you and will run to you with profound love. He is watching over you right now and cheering you on as you go throughout your life and he dearly wishes he could be with you right now. He loves you from beyond the veil, never forget that.
