After watching your inspirational videos I have decided to walk this trail next year to celebrate my 80 birthday! My parents lived 10 years not so far from Loch Lomond, so it will be in honour of them and to celebrate gratitude for good health and good genes.
Way to go. I don't know your fitness levels but I take my hat to you . Consider the higher route past Loch Lomond when the time comes. Less tricky underfoot. Good luck, may the sun shine and the midgies be gone!!
@@Skyemansthoughts I will either go early ( May) or second half september. My fitness levels are excellent ( just completed a 100 miles trek through Dordogne France) but will do extra gym training in the weeks leading up to Scotland. Thank you for the advice.
@@iristerhaar2191 But still take walking poles - invaluable if going solo - for the Loch Lomond and other sections esp if it's muddy! Good luck and enjoy it. I did despite the challenges.
I love watching your videos Crystal. Your solo Camino hike was out of this world inspiring but I’m enjoying this next adventure too with B, he’s giving me a good laugh! Looking forward to the next one xx
Enjoying your videos. This one brought back so much. My wife Janice booked WHW for my 70th. We did the Rowardennan to Ardlui leg in one stop. Like you I wondered why the hell I was subjecting myself to such grief along this leg. It was as much a mental as a physical challenge. I was to tell many we met along the way after this gruelling day my wife was trying to kill me🤣. We did Sarria Santiago a month ago and the mental challenge was how unspectacular visually it was by comparison. Still rewarding but for different reasons. Your content and editing has really improved yes I have watched it all! Congrats.
Such beautiful scenery! I love your drone video. That day was literally the hardest physical thing I have ever done in my life. We did 15 miles that day, and by the end, I could barely make a sentence! I didn't cry, but I wanted to! But like you and Brian, we felt so accomplished. Can't wait to see the rest of your trek. We got into the groove the next day and it got so much easier. And the scenery is amazing! Thank you for sharing your beautiful photography!
*_Hello Vanhalla... how harmonious you two are, like the harmony of the beautiful natural panorama that you explore with your love... Greetings to me Rudy Outdoor Tutorial from Indonesia_* 🚶♂🚶♀👣💯👌👍🙏
What luck to see those mountain goats! And I was able to stay in one of those sweet little cabins at Beinglas Campsite- it was very simple and basic but so great! My favorite memory from that evening was needing to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, but then I looked up into the night sky and saw more stars than ever in my life. Your lodging and the pub looked incredible!
Great video! Loved hearing about your experience hiking Scotland's West Highland Way. It's always inspiring to learn valuable lessons from challenging adventures. Keep exploring and sharing your amazing journeys! 👍🏔
Loving the scenery, loving the trek. Fantastic stuff, you guys are brilliant. Hope you're learning more about your inner being from this wonderful adventure 👍
Glad you made it. The Loch Lomond side of the WHW can get a wee bit brutal. I’d imagine your stay at the Inversnaid Bunkhouse was such a relief. Loving your updates and can’t wait for what comes next. It’s actually making me think about doing the way again in a couple of months.
hello, i discovered your video with the camino. It was very inspiring. Now i'm following you in Scotland. I love it. Are you ok, no news from you since 2 weeks. Bye.
Love your videos. And your reflections are correct, you can get caught up in your own stuff which was the case for me. The rain was coming head on at us some times, and I had to watch every step, and I was really expecting to enjoy it more than I did. The challenge was just having to forge through the rain. That was day 3 for me and my friend and we were told it was the hardest day going over the rocks but I didn't mind it. Day 4 was the hardest from the Ardlui Hotel to Tyndrum. I almost caved in Crianlarich as we realized we had another 9 km to walk as we reached the official halfway mark of the WHW - the tour company that booked us in at the Ardlui Hotel didn't update the number of kms from that hotel on the itinerary and we just didn't make the connection - we thought we had 19 km in total that day but did close to 27 km...so you can feel my angst. I did it though but had to stop after reaching Kingshouse as I formed a big water blister on the pad of my left foot. My husband was meeting me in Glasgow and we were heading to Edinburgh and London for 10 days so I had to stop and take care of it. You can train in your shoes and socks, and have waterproof gear, etc., but stuff can still pop up. I didn't really feel something was happening until 1 km from Kingshouse, and it was raining so I carried on. If I would have done better research, I would have wrapped my feet.
It's definitely a slog, I knew it was like that (similar to what you said...from online reviews) but still took us by surprise the never ending nature of that part along the Loch. It's definitely an achievement for sure!!
Well done both of you, yeah easier walking now farm lands, still a couple of tough accents and descents. Fantastic filming. Enjoy the rest and looking forward to see you continue.
Yep, that’s the tough bit done! We stayed at the head of the Loch in Tarbert on the far side and we got there by ferry. There is - or was, it was quite a while ago - a sort of mast/flagpole thing on the shore of the Loch and you hoisted a red ball to the top of the mast to summon the ferry. Closest thing to an Uber in that part of the world! We stayed at a place known locally then as ‘MacGregor’s Folly - it’s not there now, it had become an outdoors centre last time as was up that way. You might have guessed it wouldn’t last by the over generous servings of whisky! Given our WHW trip was quite a few years back and we were young(er), certainly fitter and still as daft, we finished the first day on Loch Lomond at Rowardennan, then climbed Ben Lomond before dinner! I think I was in shock - I sat in the bar clutching a pint and when asked why I wasn’t drinking it, replied “I think it’s holding me up”! We went on to climb Stob Coire Odhar from Inveroran (we had a short day to the hotel - it snowed on the summit), Ben Na Callich from the valley road above Kinlochleven, and added an extra day to climb Ben Nevis (rude not to!) once we’d finished in Fort William.
We heard stories of runners running up and down Ben Nevis BEFORE they ran the entire WHW in like 18 hours or less. That’s insane but very much respected!
You've really come a long way with your animal fear 😊 Also, it's great seeing you so confident on the trail👍 and can I just say, I love that your vlogs always contain food 😋
100%. The food was GREAT and the staff was incredibly helpful. They even made us food though we came in late. It is worth the trip up the hill and back down. We would stay there again in a heartbeat. We just were just REALLY tired at the end of this day but had we known in advance I think we would have had better attitudes about it. Have a great walk!
@@gypsianlife1794 Perfect. Sounds great. I’m starting on the 24th of March. I’ve wild camped on that part of the Loch before, it’s something else!! Ouch! lol! The bunkhouse wasn’t open the last time I did the WHW, it opened a week later. When I saw it was open in March this year I thought it would be foolish not to at least look into it. Wild camping is great but it’s still quite cold especially at night. So breaking up some of my stops with a bunkhouse or two would be a bonus. I think that’s me sold now tbh. There’s room available and reasonably priced. I just have to book the bunkhouse at Kingshouse now and I should be sorted. Thanks for your reply. Btw I’m really enjoying your Orkney videos. It’s quite an interesting overlooked part of Scotland. It’s actually astonishing the history up there really and the restaurants and choice of food look delish. x
That first 5 miles of Loch Lomond probably best to avoid walking along waters edge those roots are dodgy as hell, use road about 50yds from water front and then walk along water front further up.
We would love you to move here. You’d be very welcome but unfortunately we (the Scottish people) have no say over who can immigrate into our own country. I live 3 miles from Tarbet (where you almost caught the waterbus).
Gee well documented story and great filming but let’s not let the truth get in the way of a good story. The WHW is rated 2 and is a good first long distance hike. Mobile coverage for emergencies with plenty of food stops. Mainly mind over matter!
I think this would definitely be a great trail to wild camp but I think it’s different for everyone as no 2 people are the same. A trail is always what you make it. Our audience also likes to know what different options there are and we celebrate everyone’s ability to walk a trail however they can. The footwear thing…Urgh lol. I’ll never not wear Altra’s again that’s for sure!
All Brian seems to do is moan about the terrain, what was he expecting? Of course its going be a bit muddy etc with some uneven ground, he comes across as a bit of a wimp.

Definitely the most technical stretch of the way. It took me 4 hours to run from Rowardennan to Inverarnan.

You can also make arrangements for the staff to pick you up at the bottom of the hill. We learned after we walked up that hill.
I used to deliver fresh produce to the bunkhouse very nice people.😉💯

I'm not a hiker so this all scares me lol..too many variables for me
Drovers Inn...never heard much positive said about that place. Needs some polish.
Agreed! But it got the job done :)
After a long day of hiking all we needed was a shower and a bed. 💤
