    XPS is having quality control issues this year. I would choose the SL. But it does need a redesign

    What laptop do you recommend that’s not a Mac. Under 2000 CAD with a 15inch or larger with 16 gb of ram? Or something that’s fast?

    Wonderful, entertaining and informative review, Mike, thank you :) What I like about the Surface 5 so far (had it 1 week) was its ease of connecting to my wireless HP Deskjet printer and maintaining the connection (just tested it again). I didn't have to download any drivers, Microsoft took care of it quickly and easily in making that connection. My HP Pavilion would constantly drop out and lose the connection. It also connected to my Sony Smart TV/ Roku stick without a problem. For being the 8 GB, Intel i5-1235U works great, it's very quick and responsive for my normal "kitchen table" type of use.

      Whoop whoop! Thanks for watching and the kind words 🙏 glad you're enjoying the surface. It's one of my favorite devices for sure. Just need to lose that battery anxiety 😱

    Another great video. I currently use an older surface pro and need to upgrade. A few in my office use the surface laptop 5 15" and I love the build quality. I am trying to decide to go with a surface laptop 5 15", xps 15 OR the lenovo slim pro 9 14". Have you used the new lenovo slim pro. It seems quite loaded with specs but also struggles with battery life. I do typical office work but also do graphic design and photo editing. What would you suggest. Thanks

      Haven’t tried the Lenovo but I’m a big fan of the surface range and the new one is just around the corner so might be worth waiting a couple months!

    Another good video. Thanks! I definitely agree with you on the Surface Laptop 5 keyboard & trackpad. A+ there. However, the best trackpad I've ever used is by far the Surface Laptop Studio. Microsoft hit the nail of the head with the Surface Laptop Studio trackpad. And it's even better than MacBook's trackpad. Keep the videos coming brotha!

    • @mikedropstech
      @mikedropstech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You know you’re right William. It feels wrong to compare a traditional trackpad with a haptic trackpad but the Surface Laptop Studio haptic trackpad is a work of art and is literally the best one out there bar none. Shame on me 😱😩

      Battery is tough because to really understand it I need to use the device for a meaningful amount of time but I don’t always get to keep them for very long.

  • @tipoomaster

    Imo, this is the very last time Microsoft can get away with this years old Surface Laptop design. It's nice, it's just looking dated. Also no AMD really hurts, even last years SL4 had 3 more hours of battery life and is just barely matched on multicore and IGP now, and this years AMD parts would be on 5nm and have RDNA2 and win even more. I hope they make a quick change to 13th gen when it's out and a refresh, but Microsoft will more likely be late as always.

    • @mikedropstech
      @mikedropstech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think part of the issue is that most people bought Intel so the AMD sales made it not worth the effort for Microsoft to continue manufacturing both options.

      I agree with this especially when the price seems so expensive compared to other devices that will do the sane thing for cheaper. Might as well buy the surface laptop 4.

    • @paulh.9526

      This is Microsoft's philosophy, if it ain't broke don't fix it. The idea is that if your Surface Laptop 2 breaks down, your company can get the latest one and there is no re-learning (for the user or IT)
      They are the company that keep maintaining 32bit versions of their OS.

    • @joshuasills
      @joshuasills 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I needed a new windows laptop, and after weighing all the options, I went with a heavily discounted surface laptop 4 13.5" w/AMD, 16gb of ram and a 512gb ssd. Unless you need thunderbolt (I have a desktop PC that I use when not on the laptop), I just don't see why anyone would buy the sl5.
      This way I can also justify buying a sl6 if they redesign it and it looks amazing. I paid half what the sl5 would have cost.

I had the microsoft surface laptop 3 and I couldn't handle the anxiety I got from the battery life, I got an m1 macbook pro and I can't look back, I wish microsoft improved the battery life cause I love how they look and the build of the laptop.

      You know so far it’s not as bad as I thought. Definitely not Mac level and is going down quicker, but I’m feeling pretty good about it as I prepared mentally for the drain to be faster.

      Hey buddy, I'm not working on a comparison with the plus because the plus is very similar to the regular XPS 13 except for the physical keyboard / trackpad and the slightly more powerful P-series processor. I do have a video on just the plus you can watch to hear my thoughts on that device, and in conjunction with this comparison, you should have all the info you need to make an informed decision :).
