      Thats great. I ran across a 90 chev scottsdale 3500 4wd ext cab 4 speed manual 410rear end . Got some wiring issues and a couple other snall issues. Otherwise, a good solid truck. This sounds like just th channel I 've been looking for. I 'll ck your vids out. Mucho thanks.

      Did it turn out to be a broken harmonic balancer behind the crank pulley?

      @@danielebbeling4056 got no idea. Sold it for $3500 as-is. And glad it's gone. 😁

    Thank you so much for the info. We are having the exact same issue and no spark on no1 so figured it was rhe pickip sensor in the distributor since rhe cap and rotor were recently replaced along with new plugs and wires. My helper decided to start without me and by the time I came out to the truck he had removed the distributor completely without marking the position of it telling me it was pointing somewhere in that direction. Not knowing where TSC was on number one we were struggling to to get it lined up so we can get it timed and all I could find was telling us to pull the valve cover. Well, we have the same truck you do so you can understand my frustration!! Im about to glimb under here and get this sucker running.!! Less the helper today! 🙄 Let ya know how it goes!

    This is what I needed. Trying to replace a fuel pump on a sbc haha. Yes I already removed it so the rod has dropped and I didn’t use the bolt trick lol.

      Many people way overthink doing this. How about simplify instead. :)

    Thanks had the same issue, Replaced my distributor last summer, car gradually lost power. I chased down also sorts of sensor voltages, injector ohms (91' Camaro 5.7 TPI), fuel pressure. Couldn't figure out why it started missing, decided to check the pickup coil in the distributor and swap in a spare distributor I had, I marked all locations and dropped the spare in. When I took out my timing light it just to double check, the timing had shifted to 6* ADTC base timing. The only thing I could figure is that as it got colder maybe the distributor hold down bolt loosened and allow the distributor to rotate. Had to re find TDC and was looking for an easier way then pulling the valve cover...even though that is fairly easy.

      This poor (but great) truck has been parked for months due to (hopefully) a fried computer that a defective car battery caused. The battery was throwing random voltage from 5v - 13.5v even with no load on it. (even disconnected). So, I hunted and hunted all sorts of no-start, no fuel, no spark issues when EVERYTHING else (and i mean EVERYTHING) checked out. But I have put the truck in the BACK OF THE LINE of projects (because I was so fed up with it.) Great running truck just started flaking out for no reason. And I think it all started due to a defective battery. I HOPE...

    I don’t know all chevy engines but the 4.3 rotor POINTS toward # 6 and there is a 6 with an arrow triangle on that part of the distributor BECAUSE the chevy engineers were smoking too much weed and made the cap so the #1 post is on the left side of the cap and runs through the cap to the #1 plug wire connector

    After I know I’m on compression. Anyway to rotate engine to mark without removing fan and shroud?
    Thx!

    • @HorsepowerHouse
      @HorsepowerHouse  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      If you can get under the vehicle, you might be able to use a socket on the main nut of the lower pulley, rotate the engine that way. It will be easier if you remove some of the spark plugs.

    What if you have done a whole timing belt replacement and you didn't get you didn't get a camlock and can't get it started so then, still the same process?

  • @lamusicamees424
    @lamusicamees424 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video but at 2:20 where is the 'line' ? is it on the belt or the cog? Thanks - i'm learning how to get rid of a backfire that has started up out of the blue on my 1988 2.5l Jeep YJ.

    • @HorsepowerHouse
      @HorsepowerHouse  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You will see it. Or get a mobile mechanic to handle it in 10 mins.

    • @HorsepowerHouse
      @HorsepowerHouse  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And if the issue started out of the blue, I can guarantee you it is not a timing problem. Don't overthink it.

    • @HorsepowerHouse
      @HorsepowerHouse  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Go back to whatever was the last thing you did to it. I promise you it has nothing to do with setting the timing. Unless that is the last thing you did to it.

    • @lamusicamees424
      @lamusicamees424 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HorsepowerHouse Great advice, thanks. The backfire seems to have started after i took the YJ in for an Alternator belt and PAS belt replacement, along with a new tranny output seal. Figured it might be because of that? I had the wheels balanced too and also wonder if the fitters broke or crushed or knocked something when they jacked the vehicle up? That's why I thought it might be belt related/ timing? Probably pure coincidence.
