    Quality and quality. The only thing I have never liked was their smoke units. Great video Dave, thanks for sharing it. 👍

      Yeah, the Seuthe smoke units in the Williams steam engines aren't as good as MTH smoke units, or Lionel's, both current and post-war production but given the price points on Williams engines they're OK. I don't have any issue with mine.
      I did install on-off switches on the Williams smoke units so I can run the engines with the units dry. I don't want to take the risk of burning them up.

      @@johnblair8146 Nothing wrong with "Two parts black, one part green" Brunswick Green, it's a handsome paint scheme as well. And you're correct, those Williams Sharks are the RF-16 version. The Pennsy did have some passenger Sharks, the PRR classified them as BP-20's, that had the Tuscan paint. The BP-20's made their last runs on the New York & Long Branch in the 1960s. To my knowledge no-one's ever produced them in O Gauge. Maybe MTH, but I'm not sure about that. I'd have to dig through my old catalogs.

    Very nice :) You have a Hobby Shop down there in PA? The "O" vs. "O27" thing is something that needs more attention, I've bit more into O27 as I started with O27 Alco's and space considerations. But the options aren't as clear and the higher quality stuff, mostly "O" :(

    • @wayneantoniazzi2706
      @wayneantoniazzi2706 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just so you know, I checked a Williams catalog from 2012 where the Sharks are listed and the catalog says they'll navigate 027 curves, I was wrong when I said they were 031 minimum on an earlier comment. Whether they'll LOOK right on 027 curves is another matter, they're bigger than they seem on video.

    • @dagryffynhobby
      @dagryffynhobby  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To me, O and O27 are really the same thing, the limiting factor for any O gauge equipment is the minimum radius, whether it’s O27, O31, or O72. I run my trains on both O and O27 track, just with larger radius turns

    • @wayneantoniazzi2706
      @wayneantoniazzi2706 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly I prefer silhouette passenger cars myself, I hate having to glue people in clear window cars. The glue can make a mess and most of the time I have to cut the legs off the people to make 'em fit, which makes my skin crawl!
      What I do now is cut strips out of empty milk jugs and block the windows. The jug plastic is opaque enough to block the view but thin enough to let the light through. Works for me.

    Nice episode on these Williams sets. They are a bit glossy paint wise for my postwar/MPC taste but, nice. If the SP had Baldwin Sharks, they would look great like this set. I saw this week a couple color pics of PRR Sharks at South Amboy in the ‘50s on one of those FB groups. You might have seen the same pics. Wow yeah, the Pennsy paint scheme was classy on those!

      The original Pennsy Tuscan Red with "cats whisker" stripes looks classy on anything! Heve you seen pictures of the N-S Heritage unit done in that PRR paint scheme? It looks fantastic! In fact I'm amazed by how well those classic diesel paint schemes work so well on modern units, the people who came up with them decades ago really knew their stuff!
      PRR Sharks at South Amboy, the New York & Long Branch commuter railroad. Jointly owned by the PRR and the Jersey Central the NY&LB was the "last stand" for a lot of PRR engines like the K4's and the Sharks. The NY&LB still exists today as part of NJ Transit rail, NJT calls it the North Jersey Coast Line now.

    Man, I'll say this much, the original owner of those Williams trains had some good taste! Fantasy scheme or no on the Sharks they are absolutely gorgeous! Oh, let me get this out of the way, the Shark passenger set is limited to 042 curves because of the 72' passenger cars, the engines will operate on 031 curves with no problem. I've got two Williams Shark diesel sets, one B&O and one D&H. Great runners and bulletproof like all the Williams products! It's a shame they're not made anymore.
    I think Bachmann bought the Williams line and then didn't know what to do with it, I can't account for their gutting it any other way.
    Oh, those Williams Espee units running through your raw unfinished layout look like they're rolling through the Great Southwest!

      @wayneantoniazzi2706 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dagryffynhobby The ZW will activate the horns on Williams conventionals with no trouble so I wouldn't worry about damaging anything although I understand your caution. I've used Williams steam and diesels with a KW and it triggered the whistles/horns with no problem.
      One thing, on the older Williams AA sets like the Sharks the horn may be in the motorless A unit. The first time I tried the Williams D&H Shark set I've got I had the motored A unit on the track and nothing happened when I tried the horn. Long story short I found it was in the other A unit.
      Depending on how old those Williams engines are the horn units sometimes go bad of their own accord anyway, but not always. Usually it's very low volume or no sound at all.
