Wiggins was never a bust, was averaging 20 ppg in Minnesota just wasn't in the right situation for his strengths. Averaging 20 ppg with no injuries disqualifies a top pick from being a bust in my opinion. There's a grey area between not being a generational talent and being a bust as a top pick. Wiggins was in that grey area and still receiving hate. Maybe we should stop calling prospects the "Next Lebron" or "Next KD" and then we can better appreciate them for the players they are.
A huge grey area. To me a bust is a player who came into the league as a high lottery pick and ended up out of the league shortly after because he was just no good enough for the league. Good example is Kwame Brown, a number one pick who didnt become a star but that managed to stay in the league for more than a decade with decent role player minutes and numbers. To me he's not a bust. But a player like Anthony Bennett or Hasheem Thabeet are true busts to me, because they werent able to stay in the league more than a couple seasons and didnt really have much playing time
But at the same time teams invest everything into picks, if you get drafted first overall you need to be a top 20 player for the team to see the pick as a success. I don’t think those are unreasonable expectations considering the draft spot. Wiggins is definitely one of the better first overall disappointments but still disappointing none the less, the term bust has different meanings to different people so that’s more just an opinionated thing.
I consider people like that semi busts, good enough to stay around and still at least decent but not bad enough to where they completely flop either. Nuggets didn't trade for Gordon because Murray and MPJ were injured. They were fully healthy when AG came to Denver and for the first several games AG/MPJ/Murray played together with Jokic they were arguably the best team in the League. Then Murray got injured, and the Nuggets haven't been the same since.
I'm not a nuggets fan but I was seriously interested in seeing denver play in the 2021 playoffs with their lineup of Murray,Porter,Barton,Gordon n Jokic.I thought that would've been the toughest starting lineup in the playoffs offensively but unfortunately Murray got hurt n it stopped denver's momentum right before the playoffs started
Andrew Wiggins was never a bust , like he was averaging 20 PPG in Minnesota , he just wasn’t in the right situation for him , that trade to Golden State was arguably the best thing that could’ve ever happened to him and it did revitalized his career on both ends
I don’t think Aaron Gordon was necessarily a bust. Wiggins on the other hand you can tell just how little people watched Minnesota games, yea Wiggins was averaging 20 points but was also slowing down and broke the offense at times because of his iso heavy style of play at the time, not to mention his laziness on defense and would pretty much give up when he wasn’t getting his touches, he barely tried getting better, Jimmy Butler exposed him. Leaving the Timberwolves was the best thing that could’ve happened to him
I mean the timberwolves literally said "Because you are a 1st pick you will carry us and make us win" He can't fully focus on both defense and offense at the same time and succeed.
It’s kinda weird how Andrea Bargnani doesn’t get the same “bust” label as Andrew Wiggins despite both being in very similar positions for their careers. Bargnani was basically the Minnesota version of Wiggins for his whole career yet I don’t know anyone who would call him a “bust”, just an inefficient or overrated player. Meanwhile, prior to joining the Warriors, Wiggins was still carrying the “bust” label and everyone was saying Golden State lost the D-Lo trade. Funny how that worked.
Hey Andy, I don't think you'll end up seeing this, but could you potentially make another video on Pascal Siakam? The topic could be the rise and fall, and rise again of Pascal Siakam. I feel like he isn't covered enough despite putting up All NBA numbers, thanks for the fire video! 🔥
Did anybody here thought of Aaron Gordon or Wiggins as busts? To me, busts is Kwame, Adam Morrison, but 2 players who once averaged 20 points are not bust!
I’m not sure if I’m suppose to consider long term of just this season but under the assumption of just this season Start- Desmond Bane Bench- Tyrese Maxey Cut- Jordan Poole and Tyler Herro
Correction: Andrew Wiggins was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers, he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Kevin Love before the 2014-15 season began
It’s a lot easier to get yours when you have people like Jokic and Curry with insane gravity. People game planned specifically for Gordon on Orlando, like getting doubles lol. A little easier to slide to the rim now.
Wiggins was never gonna be left on the bench even without injuries.. the way you said this just makes it seem like he wasn't gonna get mins or a chance to play. Also I wouldn't call any of these 3 busts either. Gordon was the second best player on a playoff team in the magic even though it was always the 8th seed. He still did that.
2:00 I believe all players should try experimental things to see what they are capable of but you should never push to much on someone who you learn can not succeed in a role that’s been tried
Wouldn't say AG was a bust, I think he was just miscasted. As a 3rd or 4th option he is perfect. Obviously he's not a franchise player as Magic wanted him to be, but a 5 star role player and a glue guy.
The Nuggets didn't trade for Gordon because of the Murray and MPJ injuries. Murray got injured a couple of weeks after the trade and MPJ was relatively healthy at the time. There were several games with the "Big Four" on the court before the Murray injury and the Nuggets won them all. Gordon was brought to Denver as a missing puzzle piece to aim for the title. Only after those injuries was his role changed, since the Nuggets weren't seen as the title contenders anymore.
IMHO, coaching and poor management were the blame in both cases. You cannot be that poor and survive in the league for that long. I also have a soft spot for Marvin Williams. I met the dude at an NBA event way back in 2007 in Hong Kong. He was shy and soft spoken. Overall a pretty humble guy.
Gordon could be a 20+ppg player on a bad team but ima winning team he’s the perfect fit at the 4. Dude is athletic plays defense and jumper has improved.
I never heard anyone say they were a bust. People said they were good but not as good as they thought. Being a bust is someone who was bad and wasnt close to expectations. They were never bad.
Bol Bol , Markelle Fultz, Ben Simmons , Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and Jordan what's his name who used to play with the Lakers but plays for Utah now comes to mind.
Wiggins right now is what Carmelo Anthony could have been earlier in his career had he been drafted to a contender like Detroit. Wiggins having veteran players and leaders to push them harder and hold them accountable on and off the court!!
I don't think Wiggins is a bust. He was averaging 17-20ppg before became an all star last year. Gordon was inconsistent at times and wasn't his fault. The Magic didn't develop him. Now he's thriving. Both of them are not Bust
Exactly Everyone said Wiggins was the next Kobe or t mac. People in their feelings Wiggins wasn’t a top 50 player. He’s still good especially defensively. but really underachieved, his Minnesota days were inefficient!
Wiggins was never a busy he just wasn’t what he was supposed to be. Aaron Gordon should basically be this generation’s Shawn Marion . It looks like he’s getting to it now, he just needs to be a better defender
I find it funny when people call Wiggins a bust because using their own logic, KAT might as well be a bust. He averagedpretty similar stats as wiggins during his rookie season and even currently in his 8th year, the wolves are struggling to even stay in the play in(even with Anthony Edwards, DLo, and Gobert) I've read through the comments and I see that people that think Wiggs is a bust think it because he is not the first option in his team....which is stupid because the warriors are contenders.
I have to agree that they were never considered busts. I can't remember them being labeled 'busts' by the majority, they were obviously disappointing and not meeting expectations. (Whether those expectations were fair is another question too.) But busts? Nah. Being a disappointment doesn't equal being a bust. I don't think most people labeled them busts. Andrew Wiggins averaged around 18-20 points per game while playing for the Wolves, someone who averages those kind of numbers can't be considered a 'bust'. The thing is they were just never winning, and therefore were 'disappointing'. But not busts. Depending on the context, averaging 18-20 points per game can be considered disappointing. But never a bust. We need to separate disappointing from bust. When I think about busts, I think of guys like Anthony Bennett, Kwame Brown, Hasheem Thabeet, Greg Oden (Al tough not necessary due his own actions.) and others. I don't think that the majority ever had framed, labeled or classified Wiggins and Gordon in the same group as the guys I named above. So no they were never considered 'busts' by the majority. Sure there is always a minority who have called them busts, (And some probably still do.) but we can't use the voice of the minority as THE generalization. Cause if we did than guys like Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kobe Bryant, Wilt Chamberlain, LeBron James, Tim Duncan, Larry Bird, Bill Russell, Magic Johnson, Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaquille O'Neal, Stephen Curry and many more or better said, all players who have every played the game of basketball are all considered busts too. Cause there is always without a doubt one person or a few (Therefore a minority.) on this planet who would call these guys busts. I think the problem probably lies in the fact that there isn't a true definition for the word 'bust'. Some use the word as alternative to 'disappointing'. And others to guys who aren't 'winning'. To me you are a bust when you can't play the game of basketball on a professional level. (On a consistent basis.)
I don't think either were technically considered busts. They were not really living up to draft order expectations. But they were both going to be in the league for a while by most indications.
Depends on what you consider a bust. Williams played over a 1,000 games, so obviously he had talent. On the other hand, as a second overall pick you're expecting a multi time all star, possibly a hall of famer. He never even averaged 15 ppg.
That’s what happens when players that are best suited to be the #3 or #4 option are expected to be the #1 and want to get paid as such. Rarely works out I still view Wiggins as a bust
"Bust" seems to me like a harsh label based on how Aaron Gordon was perceived at the end of his Orlando Magic stint. Frustrating offensive player, sure. But he was a consistent starter and an excellent, versatile defender. The expectations around him weren't anywhere near Wiggins-level.
People really out here changing the narrative around Wiggins. People seem to forget that he was seen as the best prospect since Lebron, The next Best player of the league, people even saw his game as a rookie against Kobe as a passing of the torch moment. Everyone thought he was gonna be a star, what we then got after his roty season was inefficient high volume scoring and nowhere near the level of defense we see him play on Golden State. People forget that before joing GSW we saw Wiggins as a player who got complacent once he got his big contract, we saw him as a fringe all star at best when he was supposed to be the face of the league. As for AG he was never really expected to be a star
Yea, he was a former number one pick, one of the “chosen ones”. He’s not really a “bust”, more like never lived up to become a superstar. He’s a decent starter, hard to say he “revived his career”.
I don’t believe either of these two were true busts, especially wiggins. They may have underwhelmed for their draft position, but they weren’t really busts, they still had roles, and they contributed. Sure they’ve definitely improved, but I don’t think they were true busts
Never have I heard anyone reference to these two as “busts” at any point in their careers. Especially Wiggins, I’ve heard people say underperformed as a #1 pick but never heard him called a bust.
this is how it works people who are called "experts" say they gonna be something special so if they dont meet those "experts" expectation they gonna call them bust why dont we just label them the right way and dont overrate them! college is way way different from NBA
NBA owners regularly, and incorrectly, believe physical talent is leadership. Wiggins and AG are very physically gifted but that does not make them team leaders. Both these dudes shine brite when there is another player on the team who fills that roll.
We really need to separate bust from not reaching insane expectations. He’s a 20+ PPG scorer I don’t know know we can see that is a bust. Yes he underwhelmed but he was expected to be the next lebron that’s insane expectations to put on a 19 year old kid especially when you land in the train wreck that in MN
I don’t care for Warriors but saying Wiggins was a bust was always a joke he was always averaging like 17-20 no matter how bad he shot most bust don’t even get that far without getting minutes cut or benched completely he was always a above average Sf who just was inconsistent

Wiggins was never a bust. He just didnt reach the absurd expectation of him
Andrew Wiggins was never a bust , like he was averaging 20 PPG in Minnesota , he just wasn’t in the right situation for him , that trade to Golden State was arguably the best thing that could’ve ever happened to him and it did revitalized his career on both ends
We love AG here in Denver dude understands how Jokić likes to play and vice versa Gordon works so hard and we're glad he's here
The team the player gets draft to really makes or breaks the player
AG had an insane game winning dunk on Christmas
I don’t think Aaron Gordon was necessarily a bust. Wiggins on the other hand you can tell just how little people watched Minnesota games, yea Wiggins was averaging 20 points but was also slowing down and broke the offense at times because of his iso heavy style of play at the time, not to mention his laziness on defense and would pretty much give up when he wasn’t getting his touches, he barely tried getting better, Jimmy Butler exposed him. Leaving the Timberwolves was the best thing that could’ve happened to him
Butler liked Wiggins
Its always about being drafted to the right senario
Hey Andy, I don't think you'll end up seeing this, but could you potentially make another video on Pascal Siakam? The topic could be the rise and fall, and rise again of Pascal Siakam. I feel like he isn't covered enough despite putting up All NBA numbers, thanks for the fire video! 🔥
Did anybody here thought of Aaron Gordon or Wiggins as busts? To me, busts is Kwame, Adam Morrison, but 2 players who once averaged 20 points are not bust!
ppl expect a lot coming from players drafted 1-5 but team development plays a huge factor
Thank you for noticing Wiggins’ Defense in that finals. He was blocking and dunking on fools all series.
Start Bench Cut Cut: Bane, Maxey, Poole, Herro
I’m not sure if I’m suppose to consider long term of just this season but under the assumption of just this season
Start- Desmond Bane
Bench- Tyrese Maxey
Cut- Jordan Poole and Tyler Herro
Start maxey bench bane cut Poole and herro
Bruh that vid was 5 years ago my god
Andy been putting in that work
Merry Christmas from down under everyone 😁
Watching this after Arron Gordon’s Christmas game and 😮💨 that boyyy special wit Murray and joker
Hey Andy, are you still gonna upload on your history channel?
Bro your content and the way you're presenting your videos is spectacular. Keep it up. I want more. New sub here 👍
The Nuggets didn't trade for Gordon because of the Murray and MPJ injuries.
Wiggins is really talented, he just needed an organization that will show him how to have a winner mentality
I find your contend interesting. Keep it up.
Wiggins was never a bust, Minnesota just sucks at developing talent.
Aaron Gordon plays defense well on anybody. He makes threes and finishes at the rim. So glad he is a Nugget.
Gordon has benefited immensely by playing with Jokic and just about anyone would become a better player
I never heard anyone say they were a bust. People said they were good but not as good as they thought. Being a bust is someone who was bad and wasnt close to expectations. They were never bad.
Wiggins averaged 20 pts a game his 2nd year in the league and 24 a game his 3rd year..Dude was never a bust
He’s averaging 20 ppg this season too
Finally some respect go AG love it thx
We got Gordon before Murry and Porter were hurt.
I literally replayed that part twice. Does he even know what he's talking about? lmao
Bol Bol , Markelle Fultz, Ben Simmons , Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and Jordan what's his name who used to play with the Lakers but plays for Utah now comes to mind.
You clearly don’t know basketball if you’re thinking Wiggins was a bust
Jaylen Brown next video Andy Hoops 🙏🙏🙏
Wiggins right now is what Carmelo Anthony could have been earlier in his career had he been drafted to a contender like Detroit. Wiggins having veteran players and leaders to push them harder and hold them accountable on and off the court!!
AG and AW are players more suitable being complimentary pieces to a team with a conductor.
as an arizona fan, you gotta do lauri too
The Magic’s holy trinity at 2:10
I don't think Wiggins is a bust. He was averaging 17-20ppg before became an all star last year. Gordon was inconsistent at times and wasn't his fault. The Magic didn't develop him. Now he's thriving. Both of them are not Bust
Can you discuss about gheorge muresan in your next video. Perhaps rik smits.
Wow I remember that video 5 yrs ago😅
Gordon always just needed a good point guard
It depends on how you define the word bust. But if you're a top pick and end up only a decent role player you're still a bust.
It looks like he’s getting to it now, he just needs to be a better defender
gordon fr getting a vid bc 1 dunk crazy
I find it funny when people call Wiggins a bust because using their own logic, KAT might as well be a bust. He averagedpretty similar stats as wiggins during his rookie season and even currently in his 8th year, the wolves are struggling to even stay in the play in(even with Anthony Edwards, DLo, and Gobert)
I've read through the comments and I see that people that think Wiggs is a bust think it because he is not the first option in his team....which is stupid because the warriors are contenders.
Neither Wiggins or Gordon was ever considered a bust. This is a bad take.
I would say Blake Griffin's career got wasted in the same way. Had anyone creative got him they'd be so much better.
I don't think either were technically considered busts. They were not really living up to draft order expectations. But they were both going to be in the league for a while by most indications.
Both Wiggins and Gordon still were doing fine, bust is 100% too harsh of a word for them
Aaron Gordon should play like a mycareer player.. dunk everything and hit open 3s.
Wiggins was underrated, not nowhere near a bust... Same can be said about Gordon tbh
someone finally calling out Aron gordon for under achieving
dude went from Blake griffin to bench griffin real quick
Depends on what you consider a bust. Williams played over a 1,000 games, so obviously he had talent. On the other hand, as a second overall pick you're expecting a multi time all star, possibly a hall of famer. He never even averaged 15 ppg.
L video Wiggins was never a bust he was just didn’t live up to his potential
Which is .... being... a bust????.
So according to Andy, in order to not be a bust you have to play next to an MVP
That’s what happens when players that are best suited to be the #3 or #4 option are expected to be the #1 and want to get paid as such. Rarely works out
I still view Wiggins as a bust
Makes me wonder how many players with hidden potential are rotting on horrible teams
Bro why takes a shot at rj he was a second option on a playoff team his second year in the league how is that empty stats ?
Never have I heard anyone reference to these two as “busts” at any point in their careers. Especially Wiggins, I’ve heard people say underperformed as a #1 pick but never heard him called a bust.
You try searching "Andrew Wiggins bust" here and filter by view count, tons of videos calling him a bust before he joined GSW
@@underpressure07140 Damn, I must’ve just ignored them because I highly disagree but I’m sure they do exist
Bro you geeking if you think Gordon the second-best player on the nuggets when you got Jamal Murray and Baby KD in Micheal Porter jr
this is how it works people who are called "experts" say they gonna be something special so if they dont meet those "experts" expectation they gonna call them bust why dont we just label them the right way and dont overrate them! college is way way different from NBA
I've never heard anyone call Gordon a bust.
Also it didn't help he got screwed out of playing with LeBron and Kyrie
Gordon catching bodies this season 💀
I don’t care for Warriors but saying Wiggins was a bust was always a joke he was always averaging like 17-20 no matter how bad he shot most bust don’t even get that far without getting minutes cut or benched completely he was always a above average Sf who just was inconsistent
Aaron Gordon kinda looks like another famous Aaron, Aaron Judge.
5:07 they traded for gordon before murray got injured
