Charlie Sheen???!!! 😂😂😂 That's Corey Feldman. This movie came out in 1986, Charlie Sheen was a teenager actor at the time but he didn't act in this movie.

Hardly anyone ever catches the newspaper headline in the opening scene “Attorney Christopher Chambers fatally stabbed in restaurant” that grown up Gordon is holding in his opening narration. The movie gives you the ending at the very beginning if you’re paying attention. Great story and great screen adaptation.

The movie told you in the first scene that Chris was dead. It is the set-up for the whole movie.
I love this movie: it’s so well done and hugely nostalgic for me. I grew up in the sixties, in the eastern U.S., but the music, the kids, and their hijinks are exactly right. This is how it was. We never went on an overnight adventure like that, but we played in the woods and went on 5-mile bike rides starting at age 10. It was a different world. The bridge incident really gets me. We had a trestle, only about 50 yards long, but our big dare was to climb down the wooden girders and hold on as a freight train passed overhead. Sometimes they could be 100 cars.
I showed this movie to my daughter when she was about 12, telling her, “This shows the true spirit of boys at that age.”

We '80s kids knew Will Wheaton from Star Trek: The Next Generation, but this film really showed his acting chops! River Phoenix played young Indiana Jones at the beginning of The Last Crusade. Sadly, he died of a drug overdose in the early '90s, leaving a James Dean-like legacy because of his great promise as an actor. If he had lived, I have no doubt that he would have achieved similar recognition to his brother, Joaquin.

I think one of the things I like most about this film is how ones perspective on it changes over time. For those of us who first saw it as kids you mostly just see it as a fun adventure. When you see it later in life, however, it really does call upon you to remember with nostalgia that coming of age period in your own life. The friendships you had, the experiences you shared, and how they continue to influence the person you've become..... such a great film.

Yea solid big three of King's works for sure. For me, I can't go any less than a big five of his, by adding in The Shining and Carrie to the three you mentioned. Maybe you'll have them in the tank if he rolls back into the picture
On a related note, I think Stephen King deserves a lifetime achievement Oscar strictly on the amount of his works adapted to the big screen. A premier writer for decades, his recognition by the Academy is well past due

To be fair, not a lot of viewers commit the newspaper headline to memory as the opening monologue kicks in right after it's shown, and that is what everyone tends to focus on heading into the storyline. Thus, why many people react that way in the ending monologue.

Apparently in the book it's explained that Denny died in an "army" jeep accident. BUT It's always stood out to me that when Ace says Gordie must have some of his "brothers good sense" he never says anything negative about Denny. As crazy and crude as Ace is, this speaks volumes of the impression a type of person like Denny has on people. He's respected at the very least by even the town bully! Great reaction guys

In the book, Gordie's brother enlisted in the army, and died in a jeep crash (an army jeep) during training. They never spelled that out in the movie. Ace is a lot of things, but he isn't responsible for Denny's death.

10:52 This movie was set in 1959, I was the same age as these kids in 1977 and all though it was 18 years later the kids acted about the same. We were always outside without parental supervision. We had a lot of fun but we played hard, sometimes caused trouble or got into fights and if we happened to run into a group of older kids most likely they were going to hassle us or push us around. That was just the way it was but we had thick skin and learned how to deal with adversity. The problem with young people now is that they spend their time indoors staring at phones and have never learned how to deal with adversity so the instant something doesn't go their way they implode or if someone gives them a hard time they want to shoot them! You want a 12 year old to shoot a teenager dead because he pushed him around a little bit and took his hat?

The grocer tried to short change Gordy in the book, but Gordy called him on it. He also told grocer he saw he had placed thumb on scale as well. Gordy said he was basically a sick bastard for trying to cheat a kid. Grocer became very angry he was not as sneaky as he thought he was, and Gordy was too smart for him.

I always thought the scene where Ace played chicken with the truck was a precursor to the scene a bit later when they had the altercation and he had a gun pulled on him. You’re left to think that he wasn’t going to back down , even with the gun pointed at him , and you assume that scene was going to end a lot worse than it did.
