    as a former vet tech, this video was great + very important! thank you for mentioning hepatic lipidosis, most cat owners don't realize that a cat not eating for even 1 day can potentially cause detrimental + serious issues!!!

      So. . .I have one that routinely skips meals. . .and sometimes even a full day. This is 'normal' for him. . .he usually spends half the day begging for treats >.>

    • @hesherette
      @hesherette 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@hallaloth3112 LOL so he is training you to give treats, smart boy! most cats can go a day or so without food without liver issues arising, it's just very important for cat owners to be aware of the timeclock ticking if kitty continually refuses meals while also having other illness symptoms (same thing if kitty is struggling to pee - generally not a serious emergency unless the problem isn't treated in time).

    • @hallaloth3112
      @hallaloth3112 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@hesherette Yeah. . .we already had one visit to the vet when BOTH of them stopped eating. $800+ later 'maybe they had an upper respiratory infection that cleared up'
      -sigh- expensive little goobers sometimes, we knew something was up when the voracious one stopped eating.
      And yes, he's very good at training me. Which is why when he walks me to their treat closet they get a trick training session and only once or twice a day. They get other goodies too, so I'm never too worried about him now that we're learning this is somewhat 'normal' for him.

    This is a great video. But to highlight even more how subtle the signs can be, I once realized my cat had a tooth problem and needed to see the vet because when I touched her face, she didn't open her mouth or lick my finger. The signs can be so subtle that you might just dismiss them as your brain playing tricks on you, so when in doubt just take them to be safe.
    Another good thing to know is how to tell if your cat is dehydrated: If you touch their gums and they're a bit too sticky, they might need more water. The usual check is to gently pinch a bit of skin on their neck, pull it up just a little bit, not enough to bother them, and see if it snaps back immediately or just kinda stays looking pinched. If it has no elasticity, get them to the vet.

    Posture can help you determine where the problem is. For example, when one of my cats has stomach problems, she becomes reclusive, passive and stays in a Sphinx-like posture. She is protecting/hiding the part of her body where the problem is. When she's fine she loves to lay on her side and get her belly played with.
    It is no coincidence they found a hidden area under the Sphinx of Giza. The Egyptians understood a lot about cats.

    Many times, I wonder if I shape shifted into a cat, would my cat recognize that its really me. It would be cool to chase and groom each other.
    Would he be open to letting me use his litter box or eat his food? Would he let me lay on him? Would he want to curl into me? Would he miss me when I turn back into a human?

    I am remembering when my Cat was showing some of these signs near the end of her life it was sad to see but knew we should let nature just take it's course. It would be unfair to try to extend a cat life considering how she live over 21 years in this world and eventually we decided the best for her was put her down cause how much pain she was in. I can't remember how many years ago when my cat passed but She was an amazing cat over the years and rarely was sick if ever.

    My cat is turning 18 this month, and he's been going through some rough things. Arthritis is his main issue, but he also has kidney, heart and tummy problems. He refused to get up for about 3 days, and I couldn't get him to see the vet, so I hand fed him and checked in on him every hour to see if he was thirsty/hungry. I finally got a hold of a vet, they said he might have had a heart attack. It's hard to get to a vet where I live, there's only 2 in town, the next closest one (and the only emergency vet) is about an hour drive, and I can't drive. It's tougher in tiny towns to get good pet care, especially when driving is out of the question (I'm disabled) unless it's scheduled way in advance (our vets up here are booked about 6 months out!) 🙀
    Thank you for this video, great advice for sure!

    • @LeeLLewis
      @LeeLLewis 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m disabled, too, so I know the worry of not being able to get my Eddie & Ella to a vet in an emergency situation.
      That aside, for your baby’s arthritis, see if you can get it to ingest gelatin. Gelatin capsules (The gelatin is in powder form.) were recommended to me for arthritis and it has been transforming, because it lubricates the joints. It’s very inexpensive and will not interfere with anything else kitty is taking or eating. I like SOLGAR brand because they a haven high quality products, just make sure that whatever brand you choose doesn’t have other additives that do not check out when you research what they are.
      I’d love to know if this has helped after a few weeks. Wish I could do more.
      Big furry hug to you both.

      @@LeeLLewis I hope you never have any emergencies. We all hope that though don't we? Thank you for the advice! I never thought about gelatin, I take it for myself every day. Will have to see if he'll eat it too. I buy the "no junk" kind as well, no need for extra stuff! I'll pin this and let you know how he's doing 😻

      Sounds like he may be getting to the end of his life but then again i could be wrong. regardless what may happen I am sending him love and positive energy. What ever happens if he pull through or not just know you did the best for your cat and 18 years on earth for a cat is a long life.

      @@shawnbottomley6381 He's showing his age for sure. He still plays now and then, still trills at me, and gives me the obligatory "prrt?" when I pet him. I put him in the window for fresh air and play with him every day. He feels safe and happy, so we saved each other for sure!

    #8 is a constant frustration for me. One of our lads just, doesn't stay focused on eating. He regularly skips a meal, and sometimes goes a full day not wanting actual food (he'll still go bonkers for any treat). He'll usually go right back to regularly eating after that. I swear he exists on half the calories he should be getting. . .somehow. His weight is maintained, his energy levels normal, he just doesn't always want to eat.

    My Eddie has occasional clear, red goo, just a drop or so, from one eye.
    Is that cause for a vet visit?
    It doesn’t appear to bother him at all, but he also doesn’t struggle when I wipe it away so I know it’s nice, from his point of view, to clean it away.

    My previous cat Richard was diagnosed with diabetes for a year and a half, so there were certain symptoms that I was able to discover. The first was the thirst. Then he would lose weight thus seeing his spine, and then the blood whenever he urinated. I had to put him down.

    So to be fair, though these arein a way correct warning signs, most cat owners do know when changes are physical or not. For instance cats do get more lethargicand change their eating/drinking pattern depending on the circumstances such as heatwaves and large changes in environment.

    Its a pity vets are so dammed expensive $90 per visit a vet cost more than it is for me to see my own doctor.
    My cat has had most of these warning signs and every time when I take it to the vet they say there's nothing wrong. So because of cost i have no choice but to wait for a more noticeable effects in my cat like not wakening up paralysis or broken bones or blood or vomiting multiple times a day. 🐈🐱🐱🤮🤮🤮

    We couldn't get Maddie to the vet in time.
    Two weeks of her struggling to breathe.
    Two weeks of me watching her fade away, while nobody else cared. I couldn't do anything, I don't have a car.
    Two weeks. Of suffering.
    She died before we ""could"" take her.
    Maddie was more than a "cat". She was my friend. Please, treat them like family.
    If your grandma was coughing up phlegm and struggling to breathe...would you wait two weeks? Of course fucking not.
    The same should go...for animals. Pets. Furry family members.
    Please, take your animals to the vet ASAP if something is wrong.
    Don't let what happened to Maddie happen to anyone else.
    I miss you so fucking much, friend. You were my life.
    And I couldn't fucking help you when you needed it.
