Which of the 10 Meritorious Deeds resonates with you the most?

    • @quorrakai
      @quorrakai 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

Definitely moral conduct/Virtue. Being a good and kind person. If you have that, then the other Deeds will follow. 😊

For me it is always being good to my mum and keeping our relationship golden. I remind myself everyday one day she will be gone, and I think of death, so I try my best to enjoy every single day with my mom. Asking her out for coffee, or cooking together, or talking about life for hours and hours, even debating or arguing is a part of our relationship. I want to soak up every single word or story she tells me. Being good to my parents is a big part of earning merit for me. Other ppl come and go but they are always there. Thanks for great videos, and your wisdom, peace from Croatia.

Respect or reverence. I think this is important not only for others, but for our elders. I try to honor my parents by helping them with chores around the house and to take care of them, not wanting them to be in a nursing home or assisted living facility.

      2,4,5 resonates with me.
I appreciate the analogy of salt and water. There's nothing we can do with the past because what's done is done. However, we should focus on making things right in days or years ahead while time is on our side.
Thank you for sharing your wisdom, Nick 👌🏻

My man, thank you for what you are doing. I am a broken man at the moment my wife of 27 years has left me. And although I’ve never physically beat her or my children I understand that my very violent outbursts have run its course with her and my family. For many many many many years I’ve longed to find self love and peace within my head and my heart and never understood or knew how to even start. I’ve searched through Books and a lot of TH-cam channels and for some reason your channel speaks out to me the most. Although I have no interest in becoming a Buddhist monk I will say that listening to your words make a lot of sense to me and have actually helped me thus far. I’m not angry all the time anymore I don’t wanna yank people out of their cars and beat them up anymore, I’m starting to see the beauty in my surroundings and even though I’ve always loved nature and I’ve done good deeds in my time I’m starting to see things a lot differently now. Thank you so much and I wish nothing but a happy life for you

Your mum's words are so simple, yet so powerful. And so true! Really resonated with me. I love your point of view in your teachings because you have experience with civilian life, relationships, career, daily life and stresses.

That was so powerful… I too had a gut-wrenching break-up years ago. I kept an extremely busy schedule, doing as many activities as I could and exercising until I was emotionally and physically exhausted, but nothing worked. I was desperate to stop my pain. I realized I had to just suck it up and accept I was going to suffer for a time, so I started doing charity work, like working at a soup kitchen to feed homeless people. I found joy in doing for others and it helped me not think of my own situation. I wish I had this video many years ago, it would have given me more clarity of my situation. Thank you so much for sharing.

Good morning Nick! I watched this video at 5:30 am with my journal in hand and I definitely took notes. It was beautiful because before starting your video my Mother who is in the Philippines requested food to be delivered to her house since they are on lockdown again there and I arranged the food delivery and then you started talking about good merits and I will remember to rejoice and savor the awesome feeling I have now sending my Mother not just food but so much love towards her. I realized after listening to this lecture that I have been tending to my mind (new habits and mindful changes), my body (working out, better diet, stopped smoking) but have ignored the spiritual aspects of my life (have retuned to meditating but ignored other spiritual actions). Mahalo for your time and meritorious effort to teach me Nick. 🥰🤙🏼🌺

As an indigenous person who has learned so much in the Buddhism teachings...
Making new karma's through my merit's was a beautiful key to helping others in my life.

I'd like you to breakup devastated me and I had a lot of anger and feelings of wanting to get revenge because of how she had damaged me psychologically materially and financially the teachings of the salt in the water so beneficial to me I want to keep putting water in my vessel so the salt gets more and more diluted and affects me less and less. I don’t know if it was because of my comment a while back or many comments however I so appreciate you not having music in the background. I’m 65 years old and I have really struggled with ADD my whole life back in the old days people would just hit me. Obviously it didn’t stop talking too much or or other behaviors. Pretty much rejected by friends family teachers you name it. Somehow I managed enough to be able to support myself. So thank you thank you thank you for not having distracting background music. The roosters and natural stuff seem to not have the same effect upon. I hope you see this.

    Thank you Venerable Nick.
Respect is what resonates with me most. Not just towards elders but towards all of life, everything that co exists here with us. I have realised that respect goes far beyond politeness. It means to welcome everyone everything just as they show up in your life. Without judgement, or criticism or a sense of being threatened in some way. It means being able to root one’s action in some different place .. I’m not clear as to where or what that is. All I know is that from getting a sense of the importance of this, to translating it into sustained action seems like a long uncoverable distance. Most of the time I just react.
And there doesn’t seem to be enough motivation to do all the grounding practices like meditation.
So end result … Struggling, drifting, struggling, drifting.
But thank you for your videos which help to bring focus again and again 🙏

I get it, I have been in this situation for a while now and no longer feel happiness or pleasure in anything. I am turning to buddhism, meditation and my spiritual journey. I am struggling with just being present as I don't really like the present. It is going to be a long journey of which I have to figure out how to accept loss of everything I love and life will never be the way it was. This is not a good thought, I feel I will never be happy again which causes great anxiety. I want to thank you for sharing your experiences 🙏

Another inspirational video - your mom is a very wise lady. I have more salt in my life currently than I like and I have written down your ten tips, in order to incorporate more of them into my daily life….thank you for sharing your wisdom and life experience with us, this is what makes your videos so relevant, that you are able to talk about your life before you became a monk, and the sadness you went thru….those who have suffered always appeal more on a personal level because they are so relatable…..blessings to you, always.

Good evening from Spain. 🙏 I am very thankful that you shared this content with us because, as I've been experiencing since I watch your dharma talks, doing good deeds every single day towards us and the others is life changing, even if it has little effect on the ones we try to help. Hand on my heart, and two bows. 🙏🙏

❤Much appreciation. This is a couple years old but thankful to see it now. Feel thanks to your mother as her story about the salt water is so helpful. Thank you to for sharing. Have been protected but it’s been years of long hell and repeated blocks that make no sense. As I said, protected or cushioned, but exhaustive efforts and plans get repeatedly wasted and outcome keeps repeating. Love your mother’s salt water explanation. Lived in Sun Diego and now in Asia. As I’m a woman, cannot do the same monk route as you did, but the simple story from your mother is something anyone anywhere can apply. Thank you for explaining more about it and expanding the story with the 10 Ways explanation. (Wrote a lot here but definitely appreciate this chat at this time.) Will apply the salt water story. Thank you for sharing. 🙏

I don't want to restrict myself to the one that resonates most. I would like to use them whenever they are possible or will be possible in the future. Nowadays, I prefer making donations. But I felt better at times when I was working voluntarily. I want to add that respect for elderly people is also a common tradition in Turkey. Meditation is useful when I'm alone. And I like to express the good in others when I see them. If this is a dhamma, it was a pleasure to listen to.

You are inspiring. You talk about real life things we can all relate to. I had this misconception that Buddhists did not suffer. I feel your pain hearing you speak. I agree. Good deeds come back to you. I have experienced it. I changed the way i treated someone from using the power mode to love mode. Immediately, a solution returned to be about a problem i didn't know how to deal with. And the solution was one of love and clarity. Everyone..i know things can get discouraging. But the good does come back. It really does. 💕

I listened to 10 Ways to Cultivate Goodness today. You defined "merit" in a way that I can finally make sense of this concept, without feeling skeptical.
I am from a different background (originally Christian). We didn't have a concept of "merit". So it was new to me.
The way most Thai people talk about it, it sounded like "buying your way into heaven".
Your explanation made it make sense to me for the first time.
I will need to listen to it again several times, to imprint it in my mind.
    I'm very happy with this.
Thank you, and thanks to your mother.
