Atlanta is my home track. I've seen drivers and crew members killed there so please remember them. My Dad used to tell me that in its early days, to raise capital, they sold stock in the track, but my Mom made him sell it. I can't find anything on that anywhere. Could you look into please?

Before Daytona was first on the cup series schedule, they ran at Riverside (Speaking of Riverside, memorable was the last race, in which Rusty Wallace won and Ruben Garcia starts an early demolition project coming off turn 9)

    • @DoglegMediaMatt

I knew about them kicking the season off at Riverside, but the Rusty mention was new info, thanks for that!

@@DoglegMediaMatt I made sure to shoot you an email about Riverside and gave you the logo and track diagrams that I got from the USGS and used MS paint to do the track layouts, but Wikipedia does have a lot on Riverside and I do work on that page as much as I can. Also, Fontana (ACS), is not too far from where Ontario Motor Speedway once was plus Les Richter (same one that played for the Rams after being traded for 11 players) ran Riverside was also at ACS--worst moment was when Greg Moore was killed there in 1999.
(forgot to say this) Rusty did win the last 2 races at Riverside and in 1981 RIR held 3 races, and I know this ain't NASCAR related, but I would hate to forget about both the 1986 LA Times Grand Prix in which Doc Bundy crashed 3 cars in turn 1 and the 1965 Motor Trend 500 in which A. J. Foyt had a wreck so bad the track doctor declared him dead, but he ended up with some major injuries

You forgot most Daytona 500 starts by Dave Marcis: 33 & David Pearson's win where he limped across the finish line in a wrecked car after he and Richard Petty wrecked. Not to mention Richard Petty's 200th win and the famous 1979 Daytona 500

Interesting thing, while petty has the most wins in Nascar, Dale earnhardt holds the record for most wins total at the track across all series he holds:
    2 Firecracker 400 wins
    6 Busch Clash wins
    7 Busch series wins
    6 IROC wins
    12 Duel 125 Wins

The most memorable Daytona moment was missing from this video - Richard Petty’s 200th win. It was honestly one of the most American things to ever happen. I believe Dale Earnhardt had a total of 34 wins at Daytona. Not all of them were Nascar points races, so they probably get overlooked. He had a number of wins in the IROC Series and won 10 straight Daytona 500 qualifying races from 1990-1999. He probably would have had numerous Daytona 500 wins if not for bad luck. One year he hit a seagull during the race. Also, don't forget when he flipped on the backstretch in 1997, got out of the ambulance, and finished the race.
