    G'day everyone, I've been a bit sick this past week or so and just wanted to apologise if I missed any of my sniffles or coughs during the edit (it'll still be better than everyone on Twitch has had to deal with though) 🤔
    Fingers crossed my voice is mostly back to normal next week 🤞

      Hi splitsie, i know i don't speak for everyone but there's no need to worry. you rest up, take it easy, and get well soon.
      PS: i had an idea for your pavement, you know how you built your ramp? what if you built colored small block panels that connect flat to the ground using landing pads. (kinda like the painted emmisive strips on the road and highways irl that outline traffic lanes.)

    Hi Splitsie, you could have connected your two warehouses together with two connectors. Placing the connectors on top of each other (one facing up and one facing down) removes the need to have to create an angled connection.

    • @Total_Egal
      @Total_Egal 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      Yes, with vertical Connectors positioned it givey you lot of sideways and lengthways diviation abilities and also in the height.Jjust put the force to zero and you can move arround with pistons or the crane or what ever.
      Also turning a connecting pipe segment on an Arch below gives you the abilitie to target different blocks in the plane and one will line up perfectly.
      You can do this with a rotor on one grid verry easy andf later switch 2 blocks to connectors on this side.
      Even if you have to target one specific block on one end you probably got enough options on the other side with different connection rod length and some archway.
      You can later convert the moved pipe section to a static grid and you are done. With on max only 4 Connectors in Total and only one connecting grid. Or if it matches even with only 2 and no connecting grid.

    When you were making the lamp posts I kept thinking about keeping the light attached to the battery and merge block and having it merged to the top of the post where the light were normally go. That way when it's time to recharge the batteries you could undo them from the top as if you were changing a light bulb. Just have a set of 'bulbs' charging in some small room to switch them out once a month so it's as easy as popping out the dead bulbs and popping in the fresh ones.

    Hey Splitsie, quick recommendation (for safety's sake), make the edge that touches the ground of your ramp to your "aircraft hanger" area you made the ramp for at the end of your video have the yellow/black stripes and be solid. It will give it an obvious indicator to where it is and it is something a scrapyard might actually have for safety reasons. Just a thought. Love the series.

    Love the lamppost idea, you could have the connector at the top of the main post facing up (you would probably have to make the lamppost with the cylinders) and use a small flying drone and ai controller to automatically fly out to each lamppost dock on the connector and charge it up then return to its charging station. if the drone and automatic controller won't work due to server then just having an attachment to the telehandler that can connect to the connector at the top would do for a manual method of charging. either way, looking forward to what you end up going with, I'm sure it will be cool.

Each container would have a datapad in it with a prize written on it. People could come by and play for whatever resource they can donate that you need. Not large amounts, but enough to make it worth your while.
    You could put a bunch of nice scrap prizes in them they could win and one or two very nice prizes you found and don’t really actually need yourself.
    Basically just an arcade game for your fellow scrappers to play when they come by. I don’t know, was just thinking of things to do. You could announce what the big prize is every episode so people know what to look out for.

      I quite enjoy trying to come up with vanilla solutions to these problems, it's where I find a lot of my fun in space engineers so I tend not to use mods for things I think I can do in other ways 🙂

    If you place the connectors vertical so they will be usable you can then get a conveyor tube that will connect as the 45 will be on the radius of both connectors where they connect.

    you could use the small battery+merge block as a battery pack of sorts, so you could build the street lamps off merge blocks instead of batteries and just change battery once it's empty instead of charging them; also this would give you some sort of standard modular power solution (maybe even have a emergency power merge block in your small grid builds)

  • @comradesoupbeans4437
    @comradesoupbeans4437 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    39:30 or you could build a lamp post without a battery but wit a small merge block and just swap in a merge block/battery unit once a month from spares on a rack with the grab tool
    those little battery packs + the ability to carry them ignited a bunch of ideas in my head when i first saw them and this was one of them

    Probably would have been easier to set that hinge to 90 degrees and use the pistons for pure X and Y movement. All the vector math working at 45 degrees seemed to be far more complicated than was comfortable. I think the warehouse is a beautiful addition, and that you did an awesome job making it look like it was there from the beginning.

    you could have just done them one on top of the other to get the twist, and then you can get it done with just 2 connectors... it would end up a bit deeper underground or you would have the bottom of the connector more visable, but its a lot cheaper

    Having resetting voxels isn’t cheesy. It’s like doing the rough in like plumbing on a house and then burying it like you would do anyway. It’s actually more realistic than dirt Judd disappearing when you hit it with something.

    One day we need to see a massive multiplayer survival impossible. That is a server I could get really invested in (I am actively studying aerospace engineering)
    Also a drainage system would probably look pretty cool going across your parking lot

    • @Splitsie
      @Splitsie  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmm... I wonder if I can do something that looks like a decent drainage system without totally messing up the driving surface (which is also why I've avoided doing any painted lines). I guess just replacing some of the blocks with grated catwalks could be enough as that'll still be perfectly smooth

    Fill in the new parking lot around your base and to the side and front of New Warehouse, then under the parking lot, but close to the warehouse, dig down deep enough to place blocks down and Under the warehouse, (L-Shaped) ... Leave room for a 2 connector. One down from the warehouse and one up from the extension under the new warehouse, the angle is covered by the round top connector, like when a ship lands on a connector facing any direction.

    for the small lights you could just stick a single small solar panel on each one with the small battery. you could then double or triple up on the number of lights on each one. I guarantee one small solar panel would be more than sufficient to keep the battery charged. Plus it gives you another thing to go scrapping for. Oh and you could put a rotor on the handler head, behind the mag plate to rotate things when you pick them up.

    Alignment of the warehouse would probably be easier if you either aligned a smaller set of blocks that you then merged the warehouse to (which would also solve some of the digging problem), or built a raised section of the corner you were aligning it to so you could just kind of shove it at the corner to get the distances perfect.
    Difficult environments defintely bring out peoples' empathy really well, because having barely struggled past ending up in the situation someone else is now in, you know the pain it brings. It could've been you in that situation, and it could be you in a similar one next time, so even if you're selfish you still want to help so it can be paid forward to you. Particularly running out of power, as your scrap beacon will go out and you'll be lost to the sand.
    Interested in your future fuel facility - it wouldn't need a massive amount of storage since SE tanks are far bigger on the inside, so you could use those silos that are scattered around to make it look much bigger than it is. Maybe design some spherical tanks out of armor panels, though it's a shame you can't use the actual hydrogen tanks - or even large grid large hydrogen thrusters, two placed nozzle to nozzle - as non-functional decorative blocks.

    • @Splitsie
      @Splitsie  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Merging to existing blocks would have run into the issue of those blocks then becoming mobile and exploding so wouldn't have been easier in the end (there are a lot of blocks in the warehouse so making the locked down grid larger is a big task)

    Actually, if you're referring to how far apart the wheels are side to side (as apposed to front to back), the correct term is Gauge.
    Yes, Gauge gets used for a LOT of measurements, with this particular use going back to railroad standardization.

    • @Splitsie
      @Splitsie  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    At 31:24 your trying to use a string of connectors in series in an angle sideways, mount connector upside down on floor of warehouse and mount upright connector on conveyor tube coming from main building, below that. This solves 3 things ... angle of building, conveyor access, and only 2 connectors.

    Maybe make the placeable lights things a bit bulkier around the base of them, then you can have a spot where you can just "plug in" a battery module. You have a battery and merge block as a module, then have a merge block on the light post somewhere near the bottom. Then you don't really have to worry about using more than one light per post. Swapping out a battery like once a week or so seems feasible.

    For your streetlamps. Just make 'em and place em around on mag plates. keep your little batteries somewhere charging. And go take the little batteries to the lamp-posts with a merge block. that way you don't have to charge the whole thing. just swap out the battery with a fresh one as you need it. i reckon every 35 days right?
