- Welcome to the Scrapyard. Space Engineers where what you can't build, you must find.
Curious about the audio? We've been utilising Remaarn's Teamspeak plugin for Space Engineers to communicate with each other while getting positional audio without the glitching that is common with the inbuilt system :)

The problem is Splitsie, when you try to explain how 'fizziks' works in Space Engineers, you are without a doubt, Klang's favourite son. You consistantly get away with stuff that is not only unlikely to be repeatable by us mere mortals, but which will, more often than not, explode like a large-grid warhead with all the ensuing havoc and wreckage that implies.
I imagine the fizzix thing is perhaps partly explained by the position of the hitches. The trailers are all connected to one another, obviously, and the ones that are going to land upright want to be flat on the ground. Their hitches are going to pull whatever's attached to them with them when they decide it's time to be flat on the ground, and because the whole setup is designed to rest flat, that's going to basically act as a lot of free down-force for your attached trailers. That or there are phantom mental gyroscopes involved.
@@ultmateragnarok8376 You are in the wrong class - Physics class is down the hall this is Fizzics.
@@armastatnono, im in this class
That happens with a 10 yr old game that never left the early access state and its engine was outdated at launch. Lol. Don't get me wrong I love this mess of a game. SE does something no other game out there does. But still..
The game's mechanics work well with the Fizziks, but I wish it was reworked, at least the suspension
"Driving at this speed feels fast."
Literally 1 second before the world turns upside down lol
yes that 'feels fast' sensation when it occurs - at least in normal humans - is a warning of impending doom.
the train is giving Mad Max but they found the leftover paint stockpile of the Olympics in Australia
lol :D
@@Splitsiehave you tried the rotor and hing steering script? Makes trailers a lot easier to deal with.
This series has become even more fun for me, considering how I've literally just gotten a job at an actual scrapyard.
Sounds cool
I would suggest NOT using Splitsie's action as a method to impress your boss.
I was expecting there would be an interior turret with passenger seat behind that plow... Would feel very Mad Max! 😂
He doesn't have Capac to actually sitting in that seat with this series.
If only we had interior turrets for small grid :(
@@Splitsie oh yeah! I forgot these are large grid only… interior turrets on small grid would make so much sense! 👍🏻
@@Splitsiesmall grid custom turret controller? One hinge, one small advanced rotor, a top mounter camera and a single weapon, like a minigun or autocannon.
Splitsie is gonna have to build a train station now
oh yes, for sure. it might be a land train, but it needs a platform to roll up and unload/load at. with a cargo section to unload cargo too, love it. He could do that right after he adds a sound block with a cho-cho sound coming from it
I was wondering if, and how, he plans on charging it for when the batteries discharge through the week.
You can say it's a "Pain Train" the pain is the clang
So, a Clang Train?
lol love it MM
Mostly just as a bit of fun, I might suggest attaching an event controller to the front car that closes all three of those doors when the helm is occupied (and open at least one when it's not.) That should save you having to make sure all three doors are closed manually, giving the driver better protection, and it'd look cool having them all snap shut at once.
Also, it just doesn't feel like a Mad Max rig without some kind of jury-rigged weapons nest up top. Maybe a salvaged custom gatling turret on the second car's roof? I know custom turrets can be a bit on the delicate side, but it does best suit the scrapyard aesthetic. Vanilla turrets would just look too bulky I think. Bonus points if you can design it with a control seat of some sort actually on the turret itself (or maybe just the rotor head's subgrid that the hinge attaches to), so it looks like the person in the seat is steering it directly. Collision would of course be something to watch out for, but it should be doable and quite fun looking!
Harpoons
@armastat Space engineers doesn’t have harpoons without mods though
@@hagangray8006 I know, and there is a harpoon mod for tow cables. Splitsie has used it way back in the day. I was referring mostly to that a bow and arrow style harpoon gun on top would be more Mad Max style.
Turrets, Splitsie. There need to be turrets. So many turrets.
Don't worry, I've asked for some of the other people on the server to make turret wagons, so we'll definitely have turrets :)
@@Splitsie Thank goodness. It is a little hairy up there at the pole. You'll need all the guns. Embrace your inner honey badger.
Your crane was so happy to go for a run it was wagging it's tail.
I think a single central light on the front will make it look more train and less tractor
Adding slat armor like a tank with some spikey bits could look cool and give you a few seconds of extra time to withstand drone bombardment to make decisions. Some Mad Max style armor.
For the back cars at least. Not heavy armor, but at least a buffer for the wheels and walls. Worked on the Bradley I rode in. Saved us from an RPG hit 😂
you talking about "cope cages" like seen in Ukraine? (Apparently, that's a phrase used in various offical settings these days)
@@diazinth similar. The ones we used in Iraq weren’t so thrown together with scrap.
When you said you wanted to make it more Mad Max-ee, Humungous popped into my brain: Just walk away and I will give you safe passage through the wasteland
All hail the great humungous, the iatolla of rockin rolla
"Just walk away, leave the gasoline and walk away"
Okay that just looks ridiculous. I love it. But you should ABSOLUTELY make those skirts look like they're repurposed airplane wings (or hell, if you find a plane, take the wings home and slap those on). Would help tell the story of how the locomotive got thrusters!
That's an interesting thought. I'm not sure quite how I could do that now, but for other parts of the train I'll keep it in mind :)
The train is totally looking more and more like a John Deer tractor. I love it!!!!
Looking for 8 volunteers to be a meat shield for a train. No experience required
"Meat shield" is a bit gristly. We prefer to call them "Organic Defense Specialists."
Huh. So Eight Volunteer Meat Shields equals one Capac Meat Shield. Interesting.
The trouble with a Capac meat shield is that sometimes he even manages to shield the enemy from his own bullets :P
lol 15:07 I was just thinking it looks like one of the sesame street aliens and you just had to go "yep yep yep yep yep" 🤣
The struggle is real when you run out of canvas (read= train) to put your vision on. 😹
I love the locomotive!
That train has a very aggressive looking mustashe... And for some reason it makes me think that it needs a turret sombrero and for you to make the skirt look more like a poncho... Maybe you could call it the Tequila Slammer?
lol Thanks, now I can only see the moustache :P
Murder Train needs murder turrets. Maybe an autocannon on the roof with a man-hole situated behind it so a seated Engineer's head pokes out?
Steel plates have 100 health each, while interior only have 15, meaning the beam block is much better. Also, if a single light armour block is hit twice, it will break, rendering the entire support useless anyway.
For the railcars make the front hitch being connected trigger the first two sets of wheels to raise all the way up, preventing them from getting in the way but still benefiting on really uneven terrain.
My extended family were involved with Mad Max from the very beginning. The third film was where it all began really. Not even watched the new stuff. -Most of the MM3 cars were themed and used 50s car parts along with graders, bulldozers and such. I remember as a kid seeing many of them being built. Pretty cool stuff.
Your train reminds me of the truck Max used a decoy in the 2nd film
Also, the front of the train is known as the "cow catcher".
Might need to salvage some small grid exhaust vents for the locomotive. And I can't imagine how top heavy that thing is going to be lol.
Ah yes, the ork school of design, when in doubt, more spikes
and more dakka
Needs red paint
After further thought I completely misread the plan! This is actually the return of the drone launcher!!!!
The RBLF notes that according to the Interwebs, the Splitsie’s 80’s Rock Band name is - The Red Battery and the Spikey Bits - and we are ok with that.
😂😂😂😂😂
Con Gratz you're bringing out your inner orc with that build
She's a beauty Splitsie! Good job!
(I'm somehow missing the locomotive-iconic single headlight at the top front of your beast 😉)
That engine makes me very happy. I hope it survives
Me too, or at least that most of it survives :D
You may be Clang's favorite son, but you are tempting fate by not adding PARACHUTE HACTHES to a TRAIN 😂😂
@Splitsie, you should add the skirt to the second locomotive as well, and put seats with *very* minimalist gatling turrets on it for your passengers to use during evac. You can add them to the top of the engines as well.
Bonus points if the seats are part of the turret.
I feel like after your catastrophe at the end of your last episode of stationeers, you have become more cautious. Lol
One of the carriages needs to be a 'Doof Wagon'.
Sunday morning bliss. Coffee and scrap!
now that's what i like. i say attach like 30 cars everybody else cars to it as well , that's what i would do , while blowing my self up in the process just to see how long of a train i can make. i think ill do that aaaaaahhh!!!!! . loved the episode take your time with the train. also just remember how much power your going to need for the trust to pull all the cars foreword and have a copy of the front car as the last car if you want to turn around. just start it up on the other side of the train hate to see you do a giant donut with cars even tho i would probably do that as well LOL
blueprint the train it raelly looks cool. make it the poster boy for the scarp yard
Splitsie making a Sand Piercer train. Wondering if it comes with the free child labour for upkeep under the floor hatch 😆
Looks dam good though
Make sure you pick up a Gatling gun for it
The bus looks like it would make a good train car. Also, the helicopter might make a good caboose.
Oooo .. yes
Looking really good. The spikes make it. Needs a turret or two however.
+1 for having the loco's back to back.
also think you should put a custom turret on the 2nd locomotive.
Yeah, the custom turret it tempting for some decoration :)
Thus train is gonna be awesome. I imagine you may end up making some kinda custom turret to place on that flatbed car as a sort of anti air quad autocannon. Perhaps with collapsing or fold out walls to keep it safe in transit.
Something you could do to add a reverse function, is to find another engine unit and put it on the back in reverse.
While test driving and collecting carriges, u can use it for scraping. Create a carrige with a crane, and a carrige with landing plates like your trailer car :D
Splitsie the S.E. god of building baffels me again. ^^
Cool to see how it should be.
Instead of how its not should be(like all of my builds).
Keep on trucking Splits, convoy's coming.
The school bus as one of the train cars would be pretty cool
Put seats on the outside on top of the skirt. Your pasengers can be armour for your choo choo.
You should definitely add some sort of flaming smokestack to this Demon train.
The train is gonna be so cool, a small part of me is rooting against it just because of the cinematic potential of it being annihilated in combat 😂
Most modern trains are diesel electric, diesel power plant and electric motors with gearing that allows for full power in either direction of travel so their orientation on the train doesn't matter much.
Technically this could be possible in SE, you would just have a hydrogen engine instead of a Diesel engine (Since space engineers suspensions have their own electric motors).
Technically this could be possible in SE, you would just have a hydrogen engine instead of a Diesel engine (Since space engineers suspensions have their own electric motors).
Pretty sure I had a dream about this video a couple years ago, wierd as it sounds. Deja Vu and stuff.
I would put the plow on a subgrid and fatten it to suit the new sides. Will make it more ramming speed friendly incase a certain orange steals it
Also allows seats along the sides above the wheels for extra fleshy armour ;)
Before you placed the seats on top I was thinking some 3x3 or 3x4 built circles/ovals similar to exhaust on some diesel locomotives. I think it would take away armor but making it look like steam locomotive would have been fun.
I just had an idea Keen could use for plasma weapons, maybe in the next dlc/update since it should change combat. Plasma weapons use power and hydrogen to fire or if they need to code it that way the charges use hydrogen as one of the components for the ammo.
I think the scoop's overall shape is what's a little off. Most similar attachments on any sort of vehicle are not flat against whatever is being hit - then they just shunt whatever they hit - but instead angled from the middle outwards, so that they get that proper plowing motion of shoving everything off to either side. Think the sort of shape you'd want for a snowplow, but instead of it being an ideal, functional snowplow, it's been covered in spikes and barbed wire and probably fire. It could also definitely work being pulled in a block if you leaned into it being a very much after-recovery modificaiton, where it's welded to the train's buffers. Additionally, since it's for ramming and not for letting things smoothly slide off of it, having raised portions of the metal to give the impression of reinforcing ribs wrapped around the whole thing.
When I think of Mad-Max style crushing vehicles together, what comes to mind for me isn't even just Mad Max itself (though of course the War Rig is prominent, with its tanker trailer that has catwalks and car bodies welded to it), but the game FAR: Changing Tides. Specifically, there are these cobbled-together ships you happen across which are made of train cars, with air-filled tanker cars on the bottom to float, locomotives with their drive hooked up to propellers through overly complicated clockwork, and the body made of passenger and cargo cars turned every which way (this is probably just me coming up with way too specific of an inspiration). You could definitely get a usable aesthetic out of something similar, taking the tops of cars and attaching them sideways to the sides of the train to bulk it out. When you mentioned the skirt for the wheels, my first idea was taking one of the campers, slicing it in half down its length, and then taking the top half of it and attaching it end-to-end with another similar piece. You could certainly still try the idea with a future car. Using those sorts of things wholesale rather than building the majority of your armor custom fits well with the aesthetic of being unable to build the functional components, after all.
There is a IRL set up for trailers like this that makes the trailers follow the tractor. Most amusement park lot trams work this way. A script that take the angle of hinges between the cars and uses that to set the steering angle of the two wheels before and after it would do what is mechanically done on the trams would work. I also have experimented with a Mechanical set up in SE. With mixed results.
on the train, if you steer with the hinges between the powerd cars will make them far more controlable and less likely to have issues in forward and reversable
I'd say give, The Road Warrior, Beyond Thunderdome, and Fury Road,, a watch for inspiration. Might check out the documentary Beyond the Wasteland to help get you into character for the drive and ensuing shenanigans.
9:06 That's a flag right there
9:09 I haven't finished typing my comment yet here we are
13:05 from the front.....is a face. I can not unsee it
Hey Splitsie, an idea for when you guys finally build the escape rocket; use any large atmo thrusters attached by merge blocks to launch up to the edge of the atmosphere then eject them and switch to hydrogen thrusters to fly out of orbit and into space.
Need a capac decoy in the rear carrage as the "conductor/brakeman" when you have the full thing together 😂
Hey Splitsie! Do you have any tips for building ships? Or maybe not building ships, but tips for how to make your ships look good? I've been really struggling to teach myself how to make a ship look good. I know the paint of a ship can make it look like a new vessel, but my biggest struggle is the armor shaping. Any tips on how to improve would be nice.
Looks like the Stargate Atlantis shuttle pod 😂
Definitely need to start collecting guns for a gun train, three gats per caboose, become unkillable
Firstly hi Splitsie, wanted too say i have enjoyed your content/work and look forward to seeing more (been following you for a couple of months now, ive watched this series, Assertive Acquisitions and currently going through Wrong Way Up atm, as well as some of your drone tutorial stuff *which I actually would love to ask you a question or two about some time)
Just a few thoughts, what if you used the small advanced rotors instead of just the rotor? Then you could have a line of conveyors down the middle of your train, (like do the same rotor-hinge set up you used) that way you could have your storage on the last few train cars and could still send resources along to other train cars so you could still walk through the majority of the train cars something else i feel needs to be point out with doing back/front doors between the cars you can go through make sure to set up some way of letting you walk over the rotor hinge connection, because if the train is moving it might be hard for someone else go from one car to the next instead of just falling down on to the ground. Love the design you did for the plow (or cow catcher) at the front and the placement and aesthetics of where you put the atmospheric thrusters, some food for thought on that what if you had a welder setup behind the cow catcher so you can keep the front welded up when you and the rest of your mates/cohorts assault the polar cap for ice, also can't lie I'd also love to see you set up one of the train cars so that the roof/walls are hinged so they open up so you could deploy a decoy drone or smaller assault vehicle, (or flying drone/assault vehicle.)
With the goal of this to gather Ice, not much else and with the last wagons going to be the first to be shot up by followers you probably want cargo just after the locomotives :)
And during driving,. walking around is probably going to end quite badly anyway :P
Though some external seats for people to jump onto if they need co0uld be useful
@davidmartensson273 I mean just because the intention for the train is to go gather ice doesn't mean it won't potentially end up be used for other things, like I could hypothetically see it being used as an obstacle for a race course or barrier/fence to Splitsies base or even used like deplyable dolly wheels for buildings he wants to take back to his base if it survives the polar cap.
You do have a very valid point metioning followers, i did forget that Splitsie and his mates/cohorts on the server will more then likely have followers as the get closer to the polar cap as for which will be the first car on the train to be shot up that kind of depends on the tactics Splitsie/who ever is driving at the time uses, like if they charge in like a bull at a gate you definitely aren't wrong, however if they stop to deal with any Dags... uh i mean followers as they head to the polar cap then it will more then likely be the one with the most targetable systems (power, propulsion, etc...), and with that in mind front or back either way as long as theres sacrificial cars infront or behind the ice cargo car should be fine either way (depending on where it ends up)
As for walking around while driving, I mean as long as you aren't walking around pinch/crush points (like moving hinges, rotors or small tyres turning/being raised by the suspension, or near where blocks get dubiously close to touching one another) shouldn't really be a big issue *this is also assuming that the ping of everyone involved isnt horribly high. As long as the walkway between cars uses blocks that clip through one another like with the extension part of a piston (as in the piston without the piston head) or the top edge of the air tight hanger door you hypothetically could have a walk way from one car to the next that shouldn't affect the car behind turning but still let you walk between the cars with it being less likely to end badly, or if Splitsie doesnt want to use the clipping exploit or add more moving parts to a car on the train which is understandable, the alternative would be have the walk way between cars be on the roof using the armor panels and build it so that it's a block or three wide (so as not to mess with the symmetry or making sure the weight is as balanced as it could be) and falls short by at least a half block of the next car (and doesn't overlap into where the next train car is when turning or going over a crest of a hill or down onto a valley floor), as for the external seats not a bad idea although in the back of my head i cant help but think to avoid losing inventory when killed internal seats would be better for primary seats and having external ones as just in case seats. And to be fair it has been two and a bit years since i played on a server and may all that have changed since i last played on one (atm im playing a single player survival, only recently got back into playing video games, in particular Space engineers, thanks to watching Splitsies delightful content. 😅)
25:05 It was driving me nuts that you took until here to think of adding wheel cowling and widening the body a bit to fit seating and a survival kit inside.
I do suggest using 4 axles for each loco both for pulling power and also for stability. it will also let you build a "Balcony" or shoving platform you can board them via.
given you are effectively using "Switchers/Shunting locos" the platform comes in handy.
S'kit on grid = big neon sign that sez aim here! installing an S'kit is a good idea but it needs hefty protection as AI drones will target it QUICKLY!
you are driving a Train! Dodging anything that is moving or shooting is a pipe dream!!!
I think you need to add flaming exhaust on top to really get that mad max feel
idk if decoy blocks work that way or if you can even build them in this scenario but i imagine putting some of those on your other train cars further down the line will extend the lifespan of the locomotive you worked so hard on
U can flip the train with a flyer without issues if u uncouple them 1st!
Maybe a 1x1 wheelset right under the plow that does not touches the ground on flat would ben enough (like on some off-road vehicles); afterall most of the weight is at the back anyway.
if towed cars overturn he can flip them back with the plow on the engine.
@@armastat Still need to uncouple the 1st loco for that! No point to struggle around with a train.
Setting degree limits, like you mentioned, to the "coupling" hinges & rotors, is probably the way to go. It would make sense in the real world at least.
Doesn't setting the wheel power on the 2nd locomotive much lower than the 1st, just end up free rolling rather than actually assisting?
You had them set to something like 40 trying to assist 100, or did I miss you changing that?
You might want to reconsider moving some of the wheels (at least the rear set) back one block on the front locomotive.
For the same reason you added a set of wheels to the front, you could end up bottoming out the rear on a steep angle change.
Those thrusters kinda make it look like someone took the fuselage of a Lear Jet and converted it into a road locomotive. 👍
Put an anti air turret on the top of your front train, using the same system you had for your original scrap testing crane with the swinging helm.
I think what you might want to do is cut the top off of one of the train cars and attach one of the trucks to it wheels intact to really sell the Mad Max style, especially if the truck is modified to look like a shooting platform.
I'm thinking that'll be one of the things I do to the second train. I'm going to go looking for some suitable scrap I think :)
@@Splitsie second train could also have a skirt with guns or covered shooting platforms perhaps
Gymbal turrets on top with pistons, connect the skirt to the plow, and use a camper as safety latter on the side of it or as a respawn safe room extension since you have a thruster on one side put it on the opposite
If you want the train to be less flat, look up the American locomotive with the B52 engine pod on the roof. Might be what you want.
I'd love to see a broadside car, in the future ^^
Space engineers automatically switching between large and small blocks when looking at a different sizes block, was something that caused enough trouble for me that I created a plugin that disables that "feature".
It's in the list that comes with the plugin loader. I don't remember what I called it though.
For a moment I thought you were going to leave that front open and throw a helm or seat just behind the plow.
Love the madmax/ork vibe but it needs more red cuz red guz faster :)
Do like the Train do... Have a car in the back that is driven the opposite way as the front. One car drive "forwerd" as forwerd and one drives "Backwerd" as forwerd! That is how the train do!
What about a ducdoo?
I agree an engine at either end should do it
Think you need to get some double ended action going on here,
I mean the train
If the bar hasn't been named, I'd recommend the Sour Grasshopper.
Also, you could name the scrapyard, Crimson Cannon Junkyard.
if you make a sort of squared duct from armor plate off the back of the thruster it might help it look more balanced
You should put the controls up on the top of the engine so you drive from up there cause as you said, to make it look like another vehicle was stuck on top of the engine.
Manned gattling turret on top!
lol first thing that comes to mind, Manta-Rail for a name
choo-choo.... It's the Block-chain Train.. Pain
Block-Chain Pain Train. (say it 3 times fast)
Im early in the video so theres a chance youll think of it first but in case you don't, perhaps you could set the wheels on the engines so only the back engine brakes. It might help to keep it from bullying the front engine when you try to brake.
Dont forget to add a way to recharge it.
If you don't have a spot on the roof for war drums, are you even Mad Max'ing?
Love watching, never played, but thought you might consider using bogies on a swivel like trains use?
I built a train a long time ago where I tried to use bogeys and it all went very wrong, but the game has come a long way since then, I don't think they'll work here because of the space constraints but I kinda want to try them again in something built a little bit larger now
It's so, Mary Max !
I feel like your cattle pusher needs more of a wedge and less of a plow, it would make the engine car seem a lot more aggressive.
Make those seats ontop as dirty and corroded as you can, they've been exposed to the elements since they were mounted there.
maybe try an lcd screen on wall in front of pilot station showing image from a camera on front of locomotive? Turrets on the skirts.
I know it's too late, but the whole thing would have had a lot better handling if the batteries had been the floorboards of the interior. Nice and low, and well-protected. Lower that center of mass quite a bit. Maybe next time we build a killtrain.
I'm thinking a couple of turrets on the front would complete the mad max vibe
Love the train it looks amazing 10 out of 10 and are you going to put and home made turret guns on the train?❤
Maybe turn the front end into a bull dozer. So u can help flip other carts in the field. So it swings a little?
I hope you put a smoke stack on the front train. It just looks empty up top without it.
