    As far as Jack Torrence goes, it's worth pointing out that the Overlook wanted him to kill Danny. That was the hotel's priority - and Jack returning alive or not wasn't the Overlook's concern. They had broken Jack to the point that he wasn't really in any condition to make a sane decision, so going after Danny was something he had to do.

      I know that’s a classic complaint about Signs, but consider: humans go into dangerous environs for precious resources all the time. Mines, deep sea, space… the movie clearly establishes the aliens did their best to avoid water, and that they were there for humans specifically. Besides, we never get a full explanation of their society or anything, so with so many unknowns, I don’t think that’s the plot hole it’s been made out to be.

    I would put Pamela Voorhees on this list. She actually makes several dumb decisions that lead to her downfall. Up until the final confrontation with Alice, Pamela had either ambushed her victims, killed them while remaining unseen, or got them to drop their guard and surprised them. With Alice she goes into her story about Jason, makes it very obvious to Alice that she was the killer, slowly pulls out the knife while a distance away from Alice and then gave Alice the chance to grab the fire poker before deciding to charge at Alice. Later during the chase, instead of using a weapon she decides to slap Alice around and eventually gives Alice a chance to fight back and escape yet again. Lastly, when Alice is on her knees by the canoe at the lake, instead of going in for a swift kill, Pamela moves slowly towards Alice until her reflection appears in the water; alerting Alice to her presence. Instead of immediately attacking, she waits until Alice stands up and then rears back for a big swing to break the oar that Alice had picked up in time before Pamela finally attempted to attack. Had Pamela either not made her intentions so obvious before her initial attempt to kill Alice, not let her get as much distance initially, or had a weapon when she caught up to her at the maintenance shack, Alice might have just ended up as another victim instead of surviving as the final girl.

    • @TuxKamen
      @TuxKamen ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I would chalk this one up to possibly her insanity and maybe a bit of overconfidence. She'd taken everybody else out before this and might not have seen Alice as much of a threat. She was probably observing everyone throughout the film, not just what we saw, and could have thought that Alice would be an easy kill

Haha, It's like, he heard Randy say "This is the moment when the supposedly dead killer comes back to life, for one last scare" and because he's such a major horror movie fan, he just had to commit to scare them but instead gets a bullet to the head. Re War of the Worlds, they stuck to Wells' original ending. When he wrote it in the 1890s, Germ Theory was still a relatively new concept (c.20-35 years old), and many people were still uneducated about its true nature. Hence WotW actually helped promote understanding of microscopic life and what effect it could have on creatures regardless of how advanced they might consider themselves.
    Victorian age Europe & USA, and connected countries, were still of the opinion that they "knew best" - in many cases members of these regions still are... - and Wells used this to bring some light onto a subject more people had heard of than understood. This is still true today. So to change the ending would be to do Wells a disservice, and would have missed the opportunity to reinforce that area of science in the minds of those who didn't pay attention to biology class.

That's made for screen, it's got drama, it ties up all the loose ends. In the movie the guy just... boringly freezes to death, and the hotel is free to lure more tourists into murder sprees. I actually don't entirely agree with this list, not the details, but the methodology (spoilers below, obviously).
    I'll give one example: Adrian revealing that he was behind the plot the whole time in invisible man, he whole MO is to dominate Cecilia, to control her. Controlling personalities like this can't win if the victim doesn't KNOW who is in control. If this is considered dumb, you have to consider every action he ever did dumb, because all of his actions are about control and manipulation. Consider when he kills Emily in public. Dumb? No. All about control.
    At this point, he has no reason to believe Cecilia would have a means of exacting any revenge, so he believes himself in full control of the situation, which would only be valuable to him if he then expressed that dominance.
    Put another way: calling his behavior here stupid discredits the character growth and determination of Cecilia. If he's dumb, her ultimate achievement isn't significant. But Adrian remains intelligent and consistent the whole way, he's just overconfident and doesn't recognize that Cecilia has ultimately matched him in the battle of wits.

    • @thedevilsrockstxr2309
      @thedevilsrockstxr2309 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok and to think u need to manipulate and control someone who at one point was willing to love u for u is dumb, yes everything u wrote amounts to it being a stupid decision and it's even dumber to underestimate someone u backed into a corner, maybe if he actually did some thinking it wouldn't be stupid and u thought saying Cecilia accomplishment is insignificant was actually true, fuck development dude, she just wanted to live, he didn't have control over her not once during the movie, he dies, she moved on, he kills her sister, doesn't let herself believe the bs, he tries to blackmail her, she plays him, it's not hard to seem intelligent when all the cards belong to u, as soon as wasn't on terms he created to benefit him, he lost, she didn't outmatch him in with bcuz there was nun to outmatch, he was literally using the element of surprise and nothing else

    I disagree about Buffalo Bill. What killed him was fucking around long enough for Clarice to adapt to her surroundings (he didn't need to waste time toying with her or being so close to her). Clarice was just smart enough to adapt and pick up on the gun cocking--the hero naturally being smarter than the villain is not something the villain controls and you can't really fault them for that.

    Ripley didn’t suggest nuking the aliens until the mission was already screwed and she certainly didn’t plead.

So his seeming immediate fascination and toying with her was definitely out of character, for the way they'd built him up.

    The thing that always bugged me about the Aliens movies that centered around military/corporation wanting to use them for bioweapons, there was little to no reason to use humans as the hosts. They already know the xenos exist/ed without humans to gestate in, the xenos use literally any biological entity large enough, so they could have used literally any human sized or larger for that matter animal as hosts. Even with the idea that they pick up physical traits from their hosts humans are far from the ideal, they already have their own intelligent hive mind so picking up "human smarts" is pointless and being bipedal doesn't mean much when 90% of the time running around on all fours is more useful for them, rather the animal kingdom is where the fun is.
    Need to mass produce some cannon fodder shock troops, herd of cows, now you have a herd of half ton muscled xenos some of which have narly horns to send stampeding across the battlefield. Oh you want a squad of murder machines, where the three bears at, now turn loose some grizzly sized xenos with the claws jaws and strength to match. Need to drop death itself into a compound, get me Tony the tiger or Leo the lion, now everything is going to die until you hit that little button and pop the explosive collar which you damn well better be ready to do at any moment cause death don't stop on its own. Ever considered what a xeno gestated in an Elephant would be like?
    That honestly is the biggest "stupid" moment, using what is arguably not only the worst host biologically/tactically but also the one most likely to get you shutdown if nearly anyone finds out your using it.

    OK, so I don't remember the name of this movie. Only that it involved a giant Saber tooth tiger a couple that were hiking, a man that was hired to kill it and a woman who wanted to capture it to study it, So the woman tricks the hunter into going to this place in the hopes that the saber tooth tiger will kill him and she convinces the couple that hes dead so that they won't go back to help him, however, the guy survives and he confronts her makes it clear to her that he has full intentions of killing the animal, and for some reason, she decides to run towards the tiger and an attempt to get it to run away by shouting at it, This results in the tiger focusing all of its attention on her, and it ends up attacking and she spends her final moments calling the hunter begging him to help her.
    I'm actually amazed he actually did try to save get after she left him for dead
