I still have my 2012 Ridgeline Sport and man I tell you, that 3.5 liter with the 4X4 makes it unbeatable. I’ve gone through floods and hurricanes like a walk in the park. I’ve cruised all over the U.S. with no problem on and off road. Close to 300K miles and ready for another 100k miles with new belts put in. Alabama did a great job manufacturing these machines.
You are making the right choice, that Honda will last a lot longer than the Chevy. My 2019 Chevy Rst has only 48,000 miles and I will trade for the Trailhunter as well in February because I don’t want to deal with any problems with the Chevy.
I've had issues with every GM vehicle I've ever owned. 2004 Avalanche, 2016 & 2017 Silverado, and my wife's Traverse needed a full engine replacement with under 80k miles (she traded it for an Equinox instead of doing the engine replacement). The Equinox has had some minor issues, but nothing major (yet).
Your Honda is absolutely beautiful. She will last you many trouble free years. Just change your fluids, filters and timing belt on schedule. We bought a new 2002 Avalanche, the computer failed 1 mile from dealership. During the warranty period the radio, alternator and rear glass got replaced. Also the steering shaft also got replaced. After warranty period the rear brake caliper fell off while towing my camper. The most annoying was the carbon buildup which kept reducing the power. GM said that was normal and they never did a recall. So after a number of years it struggled towing our 4,000lb camper fully loaded. Sold it got a new V8 5.7L Tundra, have had it 7 years and drives like the day I bought it 😊
I just had the Transmission problem the 2014-2018 Silverados were problematic if anyone out there has one please replace the transmission thermostat to an upgraded one or get a bypass kit my 2016 Silverado never gave me any problems other than this transmission and it was a catastrophic failure however due to the great condition otherwise I did get a decent trade of 20k with them, knowing the transmission had to be replaced and I got my brothers GM discount so they couldn’t ad it back in to the price,I personally wasn’t using the truck much anymore so I got a SUV but if I was in the market for the truck, I would have got exactly what you did. I think you made a wise choice on the Honda it will be very comfortable and reliable congratulations if I decide to get a truck in the future the Ridgeline is on the top of my list.
Ya. My transmission was a catastrophic failure as well. The truck was in good condition cosmetically with the exception of some minor rust starting to appear around the edges of the hood and fenders but it was hardly noticeable (yet). I also needed new tires and the shocks were coming up on replacement.. so the combined cost of a new transmission, tires, and shocks, made it not worth it to me. The trade was a better option.
Good for you you did well if I could’ve got it traded before the transmission went out they would have gave me around 28,000. I wished I knew but I didn’t have an idea it happened so fast I couldn’t get it to the dealer fast enough. But I am glad someone did good job
Damn good move, I just purchased a 24 Ridgeline B/E and downsized from 2010 F150 with 175k love it's perfect no problems, great ride @ 3k miles. getting 22.5 mpg around town. You will be very happy.
I have the same truck and color. I had mine almost one year now and love it. I had an MDX with the same engine and drove it 350k miles and it's still running great. My first car was a Honda Civic 5 speed and drove that a ton of miles. The Ridgeline is a great highway cruiser with 25 mpg on the highway. I love it so far.
Sweet. I've only had mine for a week, but I'm really enjoying it and I'm not at all feeling like I "down-sized". I'm really impressed at the roomy feel of the inside. I'll be heading on a road trip next weekend to pick up my daughter at college (2.5 hours each way) so I'll get a good test on the highway.
I have had two silverados but they were older a 98 and a 06. I’m considering a ridgeline now. Did you happen to tow a lot with your Silverado in overdrive? I’ve read that towing in overdrive kills the Silverado transmissions way faster than normal.
I towed occasionally and mostly local. But nothing that should’ve damaged the transmission. I had a 7x12 enclosed trailer that I converted to a camper. It was all aluminum so it was pretty lightweight. Towed it locally only a few times totaling less than 400 miles. Last summer I did towed it with my motorcycle to Sturgis - about 4500 miles round trip (about 650 miles per day). I sold that trailer tho so I don’t have plans to tow much with the Ridgeline. I did some research tho and turns out the 2014-2019 Silverados had a lot of transmission complaints.
Ya.. we've had several Chevy vehicles with major issues. My wife's Chevy Traverse needed a motor replacement back in 2017 with only 70k miles on it. I hope this Honda treats me better.
Happy to hear you pulled a fast one on a dealership with the failing tranny of your trade in. In most cases us consumers are the victims of dealerships and their shady ways. One for the good guys!!!
You made the right choice: I have a 2023 Honda Ridgeline RLT-E Gray Pearl and it's so frickin enjoyable to drive. Honda didn't do a good job, they did a great job with the Ridgeline.. 👍👍
Ya.. I've only had it for 5 days, but I do a lot of driving during the day and its been way more enjoyable and much better on gas. The Silverado was a V8 and I was only getting around 14mpg city. I'm pretty happy with my choice.
Same here, have a 16 Silverado 1500. Rolled off the lot with 15 miles on it. Now just over 150K miles, not a single issue. It’s handled every task I through at it to include numerous long trips pulling a 7,500lbs 32ft travel trailer. Holding onto it to hand down to my son in a few years. My 21 Sierra 2500 Duramax is amazing and my wife loves her 21 Blazer
Well, if you could have fixed the transmission then the AFM or DFM would have gone south. You dodged a bullet dumping this lemon. Neve will buy a GM product with those lifters. It's a joke.
New(er) GM trucks and SUVS aren't like the older ones (GMT 400 & 800). About all I hear about them is how unrealiable they are now. We have two older GM vehicles. 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP (3800 engine) and 2004 GMC Yukon (800 series GMT). Both those platforms are very solid. After they did away with the 3800 V6 engine, added AFM to all their V8s and went to so many gears in their transmission GMs reliability has plummeted. Between the AFM lifter and cam issues causing engines to impode and the transmissions gernading early in their lifespan I won't be touching any GM products. . I REALLY want to like the newer GM trucks but between the many horror stories I hear and the problems we experienced with a sighlty used Buick Enclave, we are bidding GM farewell. We've been LONG time GM buyers. Multi-geneational (both my parents and my inlaw's purchased mostly GM) buyers. But no more. More than likely switcing to slightly used Toyotas going forward. Good luck with the new Ridgeline!
Ya. My wife had a 2012 Traverse that needed a motor replacement in 2017 with under 70k miles on it. She has a 2018 Equinox now and after my transmission died.. she's debating if she should get rid of the Equinox now while its still ok. Maybe a Honda CR-V Hybrid. She's still mulling it over. I'm enjoying the Ridgeline and hopefully it'll be more reliable.
You are 100 percent right the GM of the 90's is long gone. I had a 1995 1/2 Pontiac Bonneville with the Series 2 3800 engine. I designate it as a 1995 1/2 because it did get the series 2 3800, early 1995 models still had the series 1 3800. Anyway, that Bonneville was excellent over 300,000 miles in the northeast. only needed tires and brakes, passenger front wheel bearing, battery, and one fuel pump. excellent car and platform, better quality car back then, sad I got rid of it, but traded it for a Subaru Legacy because I wanted all wheel drive. Also, My 1998 Chevy W/T 1500 4x4 pick up truck, I still have it to this very day in 2024. It is a truck that is so reliable, and is excellent, it has gone through three fuel pumps which is odd but otherwise excellent truck, engine, transmission, 4x4 on the floor that you engage manually is excellent. I never want to get rid of it because the new trucks by GM are garbage. they cut too many corners to save money. The GM of old is long gone. Very sad, that they destroyed their name and reputation. I myself love the Honda Ridgeline and see myself buying one in the future as my "Comfy Truck" my 1998 Chevy will always be my heavy work truck with the 8 foot box.
@@GothRocker7 My wife had an early 90s Bonneville. It was handed down to several siblings and I believe donated to a charity with over 250k miles on it. Never any major issue. It's probalby still running out there some where!
Can't argue with that choice. Personally like the frontier for the price and it has more payload and towing but the ridgeline gets better gas mileage and is nicer. But i went with a ram 1500 tradesman myself. It was actually cheaper than both and had more payload and towing with a na v6 pentastar. I didnt need the nice features. Its a work truck not something i drive all the time. I got it for 33500. A 2023 model
I looked at the Frontier. Felt cramped on the inside ot me.. where the Ridgeline feels nearly as roomy as my full size Silverado. The payload is actually much more on the Ridgeline.. but the Frontier has a much better towing capacity.
@randomstuffwithjoe I think the payload is more on the crew cab but the frontier offers a king cab with 1650 lbs of payload. The Ridgeline I believe only has a crew cab correct me if I'm wrong. But yes less comfortable on the inside of the frontier for sure. All the way around. My ram is a quad cab so it likely has more front seat room and less back seat room. Still I think you will be happy with your choice. It's a good buy
i had a 2014 gmc sierra new.....it was nothing but trouble....serious....wiring harness, headliner, rack and pinion etc etc and etc .....went to a used tundra and 200,000 miles later ...i haven't replaced anything ...not even a shock.....i was a GM guy but never again...and it was the poor quality and worse the service....the dealership tries to convince you this is normal with all the issues.....SORRY DOMESTICS BUT I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER ITEM FROM THEM AND IF THE TOYOTA TUNDRA I BOUGHT KEEPS DOING GREAT I WILL ALWAYS BUY A TOYOTA FROM NOW ON

We’ve had a variety of rigs in our company fleet over the years, and this has been our experience with what we’ve had: Ford E250/E350 vans, gas and diesel: great engines, terrible everything else Chevy Express AWD V8 vans: Excellent but unfortunately discontinued Chevy Silverado: Ok, but lots of problems and trans failures in all of them. Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon: Excellent, gotten over 300k out of all so far. Personally also owned a Chevy Traverse and that thing was a piece of shit.
LOL. Gotta love the "its not a truck" mentality. I've had three trucks in my life. Avalance, Tundra, and Silverado (actually 2 Silverados, the first was a double cab and I had to trade it within a year when I found out we were expecting a kid for a crew cab).
